To pay tribute to the original Porsche 917 KH, the car that helped Porsche achieving its first overall victory at the 1970 Le Mans that was driven by Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood, a clay model of the car was created around 2013 when Porsche returned to endurance racing under the LMP1 category. While being the modern interpretation of the victorious 917 KH, it was also technically inspired from the Porsche 918 Spyder.

It was featured in Porsche Unseen, a photo book released in November 2020 where unrevealed Porsche concepts are pictured.

The 917 Living Legend currently appears in few games such as Gran Turismo 7, APEX Racer and Asphalt Legends. It visits the MW 2005 Safehouse as 29th car after C63 AMG DTM, and it will be planned for release in a later date, sometime in the future
