Coal Harbour
Additional Screenshots
Description
Coal Harbour (a.k.a. TR02B) is a unfinished hard variation of Empire City that was hidden among the NFS3 PS1 files. Lots of missing objects, textures and unfinished AI routes. Now I bring this track back from the hidden and into a fully playable state for NFS4!
The name comes from some pre-release material, it lists all 9 NFS3 tracks including a 10th, unknown. Coal Harbour is also the name of a neighbourhood in Vancouver, Canada. It's also not confirmed if Coal Harbour was the official name for this track.
Obviously, this is not 100% what it would look like. I tried my best to fill in all the missing gaps and making it look as natural as possible.
The track branches off from the Downtown Tunnel and joins back at the Cathedral.
Features:
- Rear mirror can be on with no issues (but leave it off just to be safe)
- New Replay Cameras
- Functional Cops and Traffic
- Animated objects
- Fog regions
Issues:
- Lane polygons are missing at some places, as they're very glitchy to work with. Filled in the gaps with a temporary road texture.
- Traffic have problems with the divided road
Have fun!

Omg. What a katatoniac track. Smth sinister played in my head...
Really? The Empire City might have had a big bro?.. Fantastic. That looks a bit like the 8-track. Wow the sky is green. Looks like some chemical disaster 😂But it's great work for real. Need to test...
As the narrator words it: Metropolis gone bad.
The reason why it wasn't included was most likely to time restraints. But maybe there's a portfolio from the track artists laying around, who knows.
Amazing! Very well done!
I like the giant trees.
Looks like the plan was to do a pair like "Hometown"/"Country Woods" or "Red Rock"/"Lost Canyons".
The rearview mirror doesn't seem to be a problem either.
I based it on Empire City so I got the correct scale. Then it was the usual, move every polygon in place technic.
YES!
Max respect to you, DrSpeed. This obviously was no easy task. I agree with pete on this. You should get an award and recognition for bringing Coal Harbour to life after 25 years.
Thanks to you, I get to drive this track for the first time (didn't know about the cheat codes as a kid playing nfs3 on playstation). Can't thank you enough. OH YEAH!
Thank you!
It took me over a year of planning and modeling. I'm happy with the end result.
Cool, guess the last gap in the NFSIII/NFSIV tracklist finally is closed! Amazing job with this faithful recreation. Love creative Details like the shortcut or the Lost Vegas sign. Night version is Peak atmospheric. Awesome package
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Fun fact, the Lost Vegas sign was a last minute addition.
I always love long tracks, since there is a lot to see. And makes the race tougher by driving a longer distance.
Thanks, I was planning to do a night version, but scrapped it because no other NFS3 track has that by default. But people are always welcome to make one.
Started racing forward and didn't notice any difference with empire city. But than came the surprise. The joy was interrupted by the pillars. It didn't take long to avoid them. Now I like the challenge. Great work, thnx for keeping nfs4 alive.
What an AMAZING recreation of what "TR02B" might have looked like if it ever got finished. I love how faithful to the original it is but fixed up sooo well. Almost like you found a lost finished version. And I like it very much that you tried to keep the looks of this track quite realistic... especially the huge mushroom trees are looking soooo much better that in the original version. I love it!
I made a VIDEO of your track + made a new horizon too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWL-LmF0Puw
