Need for Speed Path Editor by G. Nagler (c)1997

DISCLAIMER:

This program is only for computer experts!

Don't use it if you don't know what you are doing or haven't understood

this documentation. This program is used to change the Need for Speed

configuration. Bad changes can make the NFS game not run anymore (New game

installation is recommended in such a case). The author is not responsible

for changes done with this program.

USAGE:

Start the program in you NFS or NFSSE installation directory.

If it is the wrong directory or the file gamedataconfigpaths.dat is not

available then it will tell an error and abort.

The program shows the content of the file gamedataconfigpaths.dat

The lines are pathnames (relative or absolute) pointing to different NFS

directories (CDROM or harddisk installation).

The pathnames can be changed (you should now which drive your NFS CDROM is,

and what the directories are for, be careful).

Change a path:

"which path do you want to modify? (^C to abort)"

You are asked to enter a number of one of these lines.

You can abort now by pressing ^C (Ctrl-C or Strg-C) key combination.

Enter a number. Invalid line numbers are not accepted.

It must be one of the numbers written left of the pathnames.

"enter modified path replacing ..."

Now you are asked to enter a new path name for the old one.

You enter a pathname of a directory.

NFSPATH tests if the directory exists, if not then you get an error.

NFSPATH does not check if the directory content is NFS compatible.

If you specify a wrong directory then NFS game will strike to start

next time. Be careful!

Hint: Make a backup of file gamedataconfigpaths.dat before modifying it

with NFSPATH

e.g. cd nfssegamedataconfig

copy paths.dat paths.sav

if your modifications are not accepted by NFS or are not needed anymore

then restore the original file by

e.g. cd nfssegamedataconfig

copy paths.sav paths.dat

You need to know where your installation directory is, or you shouldn't use

this program.

Uploader disclamer notes: file uploaded for preservation purposes. There were not much tools/utilities for the original TNFS/TNFS:SE and today are VERY hard to find. This utility will only work under MS-DOS (or with DOSBox). All credits to the author.
