Need for Speed High Stakes Showroom

Paul Spain's Mercedes-Benz 170 S

Mercedes-Benz 170 S

We go back in time, WAY back.. 1946..This is a Mercedes 170 S, For now just the Polizei editions (Civilian coming soon) Shown is Hamburg and NRW, Polizei was unarmed except for clubs and some daggers back then, but did have guns kept at Police Stations. In 1947-49 weapons were being phased in. The Polizei rode around in U.S. Army Jeeps, Mercedes long trucks, a few Mercedes cars (sedan and convertible). This car was originally a whopping 30,731 Polys and using 3DS Max 2026 I have tamed it to: 12609 Polys (Polizei NRW) and 12377 Polys (Polizei Hamburg).

Original car is here if anyone wishes to create their own unique versions as well:

Should've made the hood vents flat textures IMO :)

that way it would have much lower polycount

      Wouldn't have looked too nice

12609 polies is not that much for HS engine. You should be able to have a full grid race without lags. If there's lags, they'd not be noticable

Yes, but I have a very weak laptop that cannot operate with such high polycounts :/

Though I agree, most people would be fine with that polycount, especially with all the patches :)

Be aware that there's different renderers for High Stakes. If you use a bad renderer, you will get FPS drops on highpoly mods. You also won't be able to run track mods with large texture files. The best renderer setup is DirectX in combination with DGVoodoo2, because you can emulate a voodoo card with a large VRAM and other important stuff. It's not enough to just install nGlide or using a Glide renderer.

What specs does your laptop have? I doubt that it's worse than a high end PC from the late 1990s

EDIT: Way more important question: Which renderer setup are you using? If you might not know, that's typically a bad sign at first hand

Well, my laptop specs look something like this:

Intel Pentium N3540 @ 2,16GHz 2,17GHz (it's also a quad core, which makes it even slower)

4GB RAM (Most of it get eaten up by Chrome anyways, so I end up with like 500MB I guess)

Integrated graphics, of course, of course...

As for renderer, I tried using DGVoodoo, but it seems to be really laggy on my laptop. It actually seems to be more advanced, though.

The grills on each side of the hood are crafted onto the body not drew onto the TGA and it's better that way cause it makes repaints a sinch. Also I reduced this as much as possible without ruining it, if you look closely you'll see the right side didn't come out as good as the left, none the less the car isn't too bad so I'm going with it as is..no more reduction 🙂‍↔️.

BTW is this Nik Koparanov (aka) RacingFreak) 🤔?

Well all i can say about DGVoodoo is that it's the best renderer when it gets to performance and graphic quality. I have a 2014 years laptop myself. I can test and see how High Stakes is running there. It would really wonder me if it would start lagging there with DGVoodoo. It also depends how you setup DGVoodoo. I've made a comment somewhere here which display the perfect settings. Maybe not performance wise, but this game is so old that it shouldn't be a problem on a 2014's laptop machine

@Nikster: The standard settings from DGVoodoo in VEG's modern patch are really bad. They are from 2016 and his patch uses version 2.51. Tell me if you're interested in trying a perfect DGVoodoo setup for the modern patch and i'll upload something for you

Ok I think I've found the solution

I just downscaled the render resolution to 640x480 and it seems to work better now

Yeah, my laptop is that weak...

Hey man, i've totally forgot to answer you. I have a somewhat 2013 laptop myself and i've tried running High Stakes on that shitbox. It's impossible. High Stakes is not really playable on such "old" laptops. It wouldn't be a problem at all on an actual computer with any graphic card, but on a laptop where there is only RAM and no graphic card at all, you can forget playing High Stakes there with proper graphic settings nor even highpoly mods

Make sure you're gonna buy something with no integrated graphic unit but with an actual graphic card instead. Ideally not a laptop
