No, that's not a joke: today EA officially announced the next chapter in the Need For Speed Series: NFS Underground.
A few quotes from EA's own press release:
"Need for Speed Underground allows gamers to build a completely unique exotic ride by earning cash to pay for custom body kits and a host of car mods by winning events. But just creating the ultimate custom street racing machine will not get a racer to the top; it takes a certain amount of attitude and razor sharp driving skills to compete in the tough world of urban racing...."
"The game features 20 fully customizable licensed cars from Mitsubishi Motors, Subaru?, Toyota? and other top manufacturers. There are hundreds of ways to customize one's ride with aftermarket parts from dozens of providers including AEM Inc., Audiobahn?., Bilstein?, Dazz Motorsport, DC Sports, Eibach? Enkei, GReddy Performance Products Inc., HKS?, Holley?, Injen?, Jackson Racing, MOMO, Neuspeed?, Nitrous Express Inc., O.Z?, PIAA, Skunk2 Racing, Sparco?, StreetGlow?, Turbonetics Inc. "
"Need for Speed Underground is slated to ship for the PlayStation?2 computer entertainment system, the Nintendo GameCube?, Game Boy? Advance, and the Xbox? video game system from Microsoft, and PC CD-Rom and will ship in the beginning of next year. The game is being developed by EA Black Box."
In the very first newsposts on various gamesites, there was no mention yet of a PC version, but as you can see, EA themselves have confirmed that it will happen. Whew.
Thanks to NFS Cars who in turn got it from ND4SPDworld. (hope that's all credits covered. :p)

I didn't expected it that NFS 7 will come, but I think that's very good idea, because of...
... Do you know about "Midnight Illegal Street Racing" or "Sega_GT"??!
It's somethin' like that & it makes a lot of fun to build/Paint(Your own NFSCar)-
I am waiting for it!! *~)
mike knows what i voted
:) :)
My opinion on the game is that I'm undecided as long as not more is known than just this; the style of cars doesn't really matter that much to me if they manage to make it an entertaining game. HP2 was a good example of a game that I wanted to like a lot when it was still in production, with its diverse roster of cars and its pretty graphics; but to my disappointment it just wasn't a very interesting game to play.
I think I could live with trading surface appeal for involving gameplay.
