NFSU2 going the GTA way (interview with producer)

ComputerAndVideogames.com published an interview with NFS U2's executive producer, Chuck Osieja this week, that is a bit more informative than the usual "our next game is gonna be really, really cool"-style interviews we often see on websites as part of a game's pre-release PR. For example, Chuck mentions the the Grand Theft Auto franchise as a direct influence on the decision to create one big free-roaming city for NFS Underground 2...
Thanks for NFSUnlimited.net for bringing this to our attention.

Warning: CV&G.com is a bit picky about its content, and once you've read the first half of the interview and you click the link to Part 2, it will ask you to become a registered member first. Hmph.
The trick to avoid this, is to click both of the following links so they open in separate windows... read both parts of the interview here:

Part 1.
Part 2.

This whole free-roaming idea sounds like a rather bold plan - he even mentions some sort of freeway that is supposed to connect all the areas.
We'll have to see how that works out, I guess.

Well, Midtown Madness has a basic free-roaming idea, but not nearly the sophistication that they are talking about. It will be very interesting to see how they are going to handle actually having people meet each other while driving through the city.....wow. Can you imagine how that could be applied to a classic NFS game? You could have one heck of a race course, based anywhere in Europe, Italy, the States (like Vegas, Hawaii, etc).....way cool!!
