Description

MW Native Free Roam Racer — Alpha.57

Bring Rockport to life with independently roaming AI racers and Underground 2-style encounter battles.

Meet rivals while exploring the city, follow them to issue a challenge, and turn the open road into a one-on-one race. There is no fixed course—the leading driver chooses the route.

Features

- Roaming AI racers: six by default, configurable from 1 to 15.

- Vehicle selection based on price and stock performance relative to your current car.

- Randomized supported paint and exterior parts, with a stock fallback for invalid selections.

- AI performance upgrades that respect career unlocks, including nitrous when available.

- Automatic vehicle calibration, cached until relevant game data changes.

- Encounter battles using the game’s configured Join Event action.

- A dedicated lead-distance gauge and opponent GPS assistance.

- Background police detection and pursuit of roaming racers.

- Optional Underground 2 encounter voices, with an audio extraction application included.

Encounter battles and AI modes

Follow a roaming rival until the challenge notification appears, then press your configured Join Event button.

The leading car chooses the route. Overtaking switches the lead. Pull 300 metres ahead to win, or fall 300 metres behind and lose. Other racers managed by this mod temporarily lose their minimap markers during the battle.

Custom AI — default

Rivals follow the general direction of your recorded driving trajectory, with catch-up assistance. Within 15 metres, suitably aligned rivals transition into an overtaking attack.

When the AI leads, it receives a configurable drive-output boost, defaulting to 1.25×. This is not a direct speed multiplier.

Victory rewards scale from 300 cash at Blacklist 15 to 3,000 at Blacklist 1, rounded down to hundreds.

Stable AI

The established alternative AI mode remains available. Victory rewards are 1,000 cash, regardless of Blacklist rank.

Choose AIMode = Custom AI or AIMode = Stable under [Encounter] in the INI, then restart.

Settings and language

Shipping defaults:

- Maximum racers: 6

- Population radius: 600 metres

- Minimap marker radius: 200 metres

- Vehicle-model variety: 5, including your car’s model

- Free-roam engine-audio slots: 4

- AI mode: Custom AI

Vehicle count and model variety are separate settings. Increasing the population does not expand the game’s audio pool.

The INI includes Japanese and English explanations. Under [Encounter], set Language = en for English battle messages or Language = ja for Japanese. The supplied configuration selects Japanese.

This changes battle text only—not the game language or voice files. Edit settings while the game is closed, then restart.

Requirements and installation

Requires Windows, Need for Speed Most Wanted (2005), an ASI loader, and a compatible Microsoft Visual C++ x86 runtime.

This build targets the NFSPatcher English 1.3 + LAA (4GB-patched) speed.exe:

Size: 6,029,312 bytes

SHA-256: B248271BF8EAC8C9B283B8C95E3ADD672B713BF529B05F1780E58268493B9D06

A matching filename alone does not establish compatibility. The game executable and ASI loader are not included.

1. Exit the game and back up your saves and existing mod files.

2. Extract the downloaded archive.

3. Open the extracted MW-NativeFreeRoamRacer-v0.1.0-alpha.57 folder and copy its scripts folder into your game directory.

4. Keep NFSMWNativeFreeRoamRacers.asi, .ini and .tpk together inside the game’s scripts folder.

5. On first use, remain in the safehouse for approximately two seconds before entering free roam.

6. Allow time for vehicle calibration and suitable spawn locations to become available.

The included NFSU2EncounterAudioExtractor is a separate optional application. It does not need to be installed into the game directory.

Do not share generated vehicle caches between installations or run older experimental versions alongside this mod.

Included audio extractor — optional

NFSU2EncounterAudioExtractor is included in this package. It extracts encounter voices from your own PC copy of Need for Speed Underground 2.

The extractor includes its Python runtime, but vgmstream is not bundled. Obtain the official Windows vgmstream CLI package and place vgmstream-cli.exe, its accompanying DLLs and licence notices inside:

NFSU2EncounterAudioExtractor/tools/vgmstream

Keep the extractor EXE, _internal and tools folders together. Read the included extractor README for setup and extraction instructions.

After extraction, copy the generated NativeFreeRoamRacers folder into Most Wanted’s scripts folder.

Voices use non-positional playback and follow the game’s voice-volume setting. Battles also work without voice files.

No game archives or extracted audio are included. Do not redistribute extracted voices.

Optional weapon integration

Supported MWArsenal builds allow hit-based disqualification: successfully affecting another vehicle with the player’s EMP or shockwave during a battle causes a forfeit. Misses and ordinary collisions do not count.

Limitations and usage terms

This is an alpha release, tested on the development installation. Other vehicle and mod combinations remain unverified.

Complex junctions, shortcuts, medians and obstacles can still cause poor route choices or stuck vehicles. Resource limits and traffic availability may reduce the active racer count.

Research, discussion and personal use—including personal modifications and local builds—are permitted. Redistribution, re-uploading and distribution of modified builds require prior express permission. See the included licence documents. Third-party licences and previously granted rights are preserved.
