Description

Ford Explorer / Ford Police Interceptor

This is a rendition of a 5th generation Ford Explorer (U502), both in civillian and interceptor variants.

The car is not fast, but should at least be able to barely keep up with C-class cars. The idea is to bring a bit of a challenge and excitement to this often forgotten car class.

The handling dynamics are realistic. You'll notice that the car almost never engages 6th gear. This is consistent with the real-life version, where this gear is only used for highway fuel economy. The car is technically geared up to go at 490Km/h / 300 MPH, but just as the real life version, the actual top speed is way lower in practice.

Serial number: 51201/51202

Mod includes:

  • Ford Explorer (Class C)
  • Ford Police Interceptor (Class C, pursuit)
  • Traffic version (replaces traffic 0003)
  • Traffic pursuit version (replaces traffic/pursuit 0004

This car has the honor of being the first mod ever made from scratch using Vivianne.

Installation

Unzip the contents in your NFS3 root directory. You'll be prompted if you want to replace files.

If you choose to overwrite the original files, you'll be replacing the traffic 0003 car and a pursuit SUV with this same car. You may choose to skip those two files if you want to keep your original traffic cars.

Errata and bugs

  • Some small isssues with texture transparency could be visible.
  • Rims do not match the real -life versions of these cars (I just didn't have the time to go and search for those textures)
  • Due to a very silly mistake in the editing software (Vivianne, which at the time of writing is still in beta) the gear shift sound plays at a very high speed, sounding almost like a horn.
  • Also, there's a faint high pitch noise that could be heard at the start of the race on a full grid of Ford Explorer cars. This is due to a very small synthetic audio stream for the engine sound that I used (made with engine-sim).
