If the original car wasn't just a non functional 1/1 scale model car made of wood and plastic, it could have been a real banger performance wise... a true 80's AA-class Ferrari/Lamborghini killer. But oh boy... This thing is UGLY as hell! But because you modeling skills are soooo amazing and because I am super curious where the headlights are, I will download it nevertheless :)

It's not an F1 car and it is supposed to have "special optics ellipsoid headlight by CARELLO" as this source tells us:

I am just sooo curious where they are supposed to be?!? in the little hole in the nose next to the radar sensor? Or maybe hidden behind the flap directly in front of the windscreen? I could not find out... And since the real car is just a 1/1 scale mockup there are no pictures at all on the internet. :/

I put it in the little hole in the nose next to the radar sensor.

The part in front of the windshield is fixed. Without this cutout, when the front hood is opened, it would hit the windshield.

Where have you read it's a 1/1 scale mockup ?

I am working on mockups like this for 14 years now... I don't have to read about it... A quick look at the taillights show that they are no real plastic parts but just Di-Noc foil put on a plastic (or maybe even clay?!?) model.

      https://carstyling.ru/resources/concept/1986_Matra_P29_08.jpg

A second look at the side marker lights at the rear spoiler makes it very clear... this is not a real working car but just an 1/1 scale model car ;)

a little "update"... If you look at look at this video:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT7kZbcqG1c

You can see the bad building quality of the "original car" ;)

I think you're confusing a showcar with a concept car or prototype. The P29 probably has fake taillights, just as it has no windscreen wipers. Its purpose is not to sell a design but a turbocharged rear mid-engine connected to a 5-speed gearbox and 4-wheel drive in an epoxy-bonded aluminium chassis with composite blade springs. It's a kind of hybrid between a 205 Turbo 16 and a Lotus Elise.

It's a real car, with lights that are probably fake, like the Ferrari 512 S Berlinetta Speciale. But if the Ferrari is a showcar with an engine and a turning radius that makes it practically undriveable, the Matra is a very efficient car which inspired the Renault Spider, the Helem V6.....

Only one. It is an experimental car that is now on display at the Matra Automobile Museum in Romorantin-Lanthenay.

    It's beautiful! I love it!

This one is just magnificent, just like the Chevrolet Ramarro, Citroƫn Zabrus, Activa 1 and 2 and so on. Bertone have made amazing cars.

Yes.. Bertone made amazing cars.. that's why they did not make this "thing". :laughcry: I am pretty sure that it was the Matra inhouse design that was responsible for this "crime". :D ...But I like it nevertheless because it is so bizarre and unique with it's strange proportions

The proportions are just right, the rear wheels could have been a little bigger, but i guess that wouldn't match with the 4 wheel drive

This little Matra is eccentric and I find it very amusing. Between you and me, I don't dream about BMW CSLs at night.

Oh... comeon Butch... Please don't get angry with me just because I don't like the originals design. I am sorry. I am indeed really happy that you are building this quirky little car. It's always so refreshing to see you build the underdog cars next to the real classics aswell as these cars have never been made for ANY computer game AT ALL and we are very priviliged to have you here and to get them soooo exclusiv for our favorite game. I can't thank you enough for that.  The cars that are not "everybody's darling" are obviously the most interesting ones and I am really not the scale for taste here. ;)

I think most Concept Cars, whether what year, should be loved and deserve a place here.

Again, the Matra P29 may not win people's heart, but it won my heart and I'm pleased that it's now here in the world of NFS.

I still hope the cute 1970 Abarth 1000TCR Berlina Corsa would come one day.

I am jeez curious how on earth could this thing kill any Ferrari or Lambo of those days. Smth like an F40 or Countach? Ok, a 348 or Testarossa. I would watch that "killing show" with pleasure. Poor Matra would not survive. Then, it looks more like a buggy to me. Pity it still never reached real production...

348 was not available in '86.

Even if it was produced, it would've gone against something else, rather than the F40 and rest, by having a 255bhp 2litre engine.

Wow, that looks like a wonderful concept

What was your method for making it? Did you use blueprints, photos or just eye-balling it?

I couldn't find any blueprints, so I modelled it from photos, by eye.

Thank you but I use Lightwave 3D for 30 years (I still have a bi-pentium pro 200MHz,  Win NT4 in my attic).

To keep the polycount low, I start with a box. I cut and reshape it so that the silhouette gradually resembles that of the car. It's easier to use a blueprint and start with roughly cut cars (Fiat X1/9, Buick GNX, Cadillac Allante, Maserati Biturbo, Lotus from the '80s, etc.).

There are several examples of modelling steps in my thread ā€˜Last rides with high stakes’ for those who are interested.
