Bad handling in a middle-engine car. Good job, Ford! ^^

It's quite tail-happy in NFS2 as well. Realism?? The XJ220 on the other hand was apparently balanced by applying lots of understeer to its handling. A shame.

Instead of the Lotus I'd have the XJ220 in Class A with proper handling and maybe move the GT1 down to Class B. Performance matching was very weird in that game. :( Then again it wasn't supposed to be balanced because the McLaren would be the best car anyway if based on real stats unless they toned it down like the XJ220. :P

XJ220

Plus you couldn't properly recreate the intro duel because the Calá is class C and the Jag class B. What a flawed game ^^

Nice list, Mika. :)

Think of the bright side. MW has a much higher poly limit, but much less usable cars compared to HS. :D

HS also "will" work with modern pads like Xbox 360 controllers. It's effectively plug and play. It plays pretty well with them, too, but since the game came out long before XInput was a thing you get no vibration unfortunately.

One thing I'd like to do is make upgrade for "classic" addon cars. It's not really that hard to change small stuff. There are people who mod higher detail games who make pretty convincing racecars out of street models with little if any modelling. An old pastime of mine was also to make "accurate" performance. I've spent countless hours searching for info on the web. Cars like Maserati 3200 GT were pretty hard to find data for because they were sold in small volume and probably restricted to Euro market. Today however you have many owner clubs for many different cars so you can just ask. Porsche and Ferrari are privileged because of Rennlist and FerrariChat.

noise spoke of source code release, that would be great but it has no chance of happening because of how EA is. Source code release, despite Doom and Quake's success, is pretty unique thing. John Carmack is a guy from different times, he had a completely different mindset from the big corporations of today. Most of the games Carmack either had the rights to or was involved in had their sources released. Doom's everlasting impact is thanks to his vision of open source.

Yes nice car list above. :}
Yea, cool well said Zpectre, good info i did some doom,Quake yrs ago. They made nice maps an mods for. I loved the cheat codes ;)

Hm... in GTA SA even the default cars have around 30.000 polies. The average polycount of mods there is around 100.000. I mean, just look at the details. Most cars have full 3D interior and engines with complete exhaust system. Hell, on some cars you can read the build number and engine plate on the chassis.

Thats just too much for High Stakes.

And usermade cars in SA have no LOD's usually.

They've pushed that game to the limits but it still suffers from memory issues. If you use too many modded cars you'll run into draw distance problems. So even in GTASA these cars aren't that good to use.

It suffers from the same problem as HS and other games: people going for most detail possible and not what's reasonable.

So, apparently someone did a highpoly Lister Storm for HS. Where is it? :)

WiLL

Are you talking about Bucketlist...? ;)
Lister is out there, i seen it few day's ago

Did you check under the L for Lister? 'cause that's where it is (courtesy of Memphis). ;)

He also did a Scighera and some neat Batmobiles (1966 and 1989) in recent years.

I got it. Thanks, friend. :)

I'm feeling motivated to do some fiddling with the game again, but no new cars for now. Truth be told, I absolutely HATE my old cars. They weren't bad, in fact they look pretty good, but they were full of poor design choices that resulted from me being lazy and going for steady output instead of quality. :(

I also don't really like playing NFS4 with too new cars (newer than 2002 IRL) anymore. These new cars are too fast and completely screw the class logic. We've gotten to the point where a 991 Turbo could easily be Class AAA by the game's classification. Granted, it's an arcade game so you don't have to follow reality... But it really feels weird. :D

mikawagnerbr

their old cars are generally fantastic Zpectre
