NFS HS MIXER


Description:


The NFS HS Mixer is a track and car manager for Neeed for Speed 4 (High Stakes, Road Challenge, Brennender Asphalt). It allows to add tracks and car to the game. Since to track(19) and car (50) limits are not yet broken, the Mixer allows to exchange tracks & cars. You can create your own track and car lists or use those that come with the expansion pack.

* Microsoft DCOM V1.3 (Win95)


* Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.5 (Win95 & Win98)


How it begun:

Since it was too boring to drive the same knockouts, we have tried out simply to exchange two tracks. And so we had another track-sequence for the knockout ! In order to do this automatically, I have begun to write the NFS HS Mixer. Now it is possibly to place each track at (almost) every position. Later, the possibility came to insert new tracks without replacing the originals.


How changing tracks works:


The NFS Folders are exchanged among each other (... \Data\Tracks\XXX). The pictures of the tracks are adjusted too (... \Data\FeArt\Slides &... \Data\FeArt\Vidwall). And the audio-files in... \Data\Showcase\Audio are altered. To have right names in the menu, the file text.??? under... \Data\Text will be manipulated (according to language of the installation)

When "Apply to files" is started, the records.dat is copied into the Mixer's folder. The current file is replaced by a new installation file. If the original-list is produced again, you get back your records.


Extra tracks:


Additional tracks can only be imported, if an original-list is current.("Original List" & "Apply to files"). This is also necessary to erase extra-tracks and other functions.

New Tracks can be imported from a Zip-File or out of a folder. All files of the route must lie there without more subdirectories. The program sorts the files by itself into the right folders. On the basis of the loading-screens, the mixer decides on which route the new Track is based on. If it exists none it must be declared in the menu.

The first extra track will be placed in the folder ... \Data\Tracks\Extra19 the next in Extra20... Also the other files are positioned with the same number in their folders. If you want to drive the route, simply place it by dragging on a position under 19. Because few tracks cannot work at some positions this must be indicated in " doesn't use as ". Some original tracks doesn't work at position 03. The mixer prevents to put down these tracks at an invalid position then. The parameters can be altered with right mouse-click on the track later (Original List!).

Every extra Track contains a Mixer.ini that holds all its data. If it exists in the zip-file all values will be imported by the Mixer.


Car Manager :

The latest addiction was the car manager. It allows the enable / disable cars by renaming the car.viv file. You can import single cars from zip/rar archives or import all cars from one folder (subfolders will be ignored). Imported cars will be labled as Mixercars, and can have each own comment. Cars can be exported to zip files, too. The "Open car.viv file" function will only work if .viv files are associated with an application.



Command Line Options :


nfs3:on|off = NFS3 Tracks prefered on or off

nfs4:on|off = NFS4 Tracks prefered on or off

rw:on|off = Raceway Tracks prefered on or off

extra:on|off = Extra Tracks prefered on or off

newmix = Mix the tracklist

orglist = Make a original list

start = Start NFS

quit = Ends the Mixer after executing commands.

load:"C:\file.hsm" = Loads a tracklist from "C:\file.hsm".

addtracks:"c:\trackfolder" = Adds all tracks, stored in archives (Rar/Zip), from folder "c:\trackfolder".

deltracks:"...\List.hsm" = Deletes all tracks listed in 'List.hsm'. The hsm file can contain more than 19 tracks. Original tracks can't be deleted.

addcars:"C:\carfolder" = Adds all cars, stored in archives(Rar/Zip), from folder "c:\carfolder".

delcars:"...\List.hsc" = Deletes all cars listed in 'List.hsc'.

cars:original = Changes the cars, that only cars from the original CD are available.

cars:ea = Changes the cars, that only cars from EA are available (including downloaded).

cars:ep = All EA cars and the cars from EP2 are available (see HS forum of needforbetterspeed.net).

cars:"C:\...carlist.hsc" = Enables cars listed in "C:\...carlist.hsc".

carmanager = Start only the Car Manager of the Mixer.


example "mixer.exe nfs3:off nfs4:off rw:on extra:on newmix start" generates a random tracklist where raceways and extra track are preferred & starts NFS

In 1.4.0.466 I changed the handling of the QFS files. Now it is processed like this:
'Copy sh*.qfs to Data\Showcase\Art
'Copy sl*.qfs to Data\Showcase\Art
'Copy .qfs to Data\Showcase\Art
'*.qfs copy to Data\FeArt\VidWall (The rest)
I hope that is correct now.

    Good to see the Mixer available here. I now realize I have an older version, I never seen the 'random carlist'. Is the mixer giving you 22 (or even 48) random opponents?

    The first screenshot shows tracknames I've never seen, are those just W.I.P tracks?

    The program tries to activate one car per serial number. AgentMulder has recently asked for this.

    I get a runtime error 9 when trying to set a random car list. Is it maybe due to Windows 7? Or maybe there's missing cars with specific serial numbers?

    EDIT: I'm really glad that you're working on the HS Mixer again. Hopefully, the wrong placement of the slide files is fixed. Gonna try that out when i have time

      About 760 or so. And the slides problem is still present, that's more of a problem if you ask me since i always create random car lists with random.org. But i can understand if others want it the easier way

      Yeah, I didn't expected such serials when I wrote the random function. ;) But it should be easy the make a check and ignore them.:D

      Nah it's ok. 1 just has to manage his Car Manager cars. The point where i fix those cars' serial numbers is when i create those car lists

    Is there a max. of cars in car manager? I have more than 3000 without problems. But I never use custom carlists, I just select some cars (check serials) and run the game. 

    I also have the slides issue when installing a car tho.

      Wow. You never change the serial numbers? I couldn't create car lists like that. I want it completely randomised ^^

      I do change serialnr's. Although not always because I mainly drive singleplayer with 1 opponent. I don't mind the savedata all that much.

      I mean when i play i want to have the most variation there can be done. Means 48 cars for me. That's why i have to edit the serial numbers eitherway because when a car always has the same serial number, there won't be too much variation in the car lists

      EDIT: For example car A and car B both have SN 48. When you create car packs and never change serial numbers, you will never be able to have car A and car B in the game at the same time

    I enjoy selecting cars, even 48 times. The manager makes it possible to order cars by brand/ building year/ author/ country.....

    For that I fiddle with the text in fedata. Or in the manager you can do things with the 'comment' section.

    I tried custom carlist but got bored. After 2 or 3 races I know the cars and want a new list.

    That's my approache, I very much like the carmanager.

    The random car list function is pure gold. Might look basic and simplistic and first glance, but if you set up a big archive properly, this is an incredible feature! Thanks a million, billion, trillion times for finally implementing this!

      I wasn't actually planning to do anything in VB6 or on the Mixer. But the idea was good and easy to implement. I have no idea why it wasn't already there. Fortunately, I found a old virtual machine in which I could make the changes.

      Before I install this new mixerversion, can I overwrite the old one?

      Is there a risk that I have to reinstall all my cars again?

      I did it like this:

      1. Set the tracklist to "Original"

      2. Make a backup/copy of the old Mixer version

      3. Take the contents from the new Mixer version and place them into the folder from the old Mixer version. Replace if asked

      Then you still have all your track/car lists and don't have to recreate them or copy them over

      EDIT: When Jim released the portable version in 2017, all i did was to replace the Mixer.exe

    When installed and try to run this new mixer I get:

      What Windows version do you use? Maybe the new unrar doesn't work there anymore.

      Check if the unrar.dll is present in the directory. Also possible the DLL is blocked or deleted by Antivirus.

    I run my game with Windows xp. There is no antivirus progr.  because the comp. is disconnected from internet.

      Can you try out V1.4.0.467 from my Magenta Share? It has a modified setup that uses a old unrar.dll on old systems.

      What a relieve...it's succesfully installed and running now. Thnx JimD ,pete9516 & Madman_nfs.

      Now I can try the random carlist (I now understand it's 49 random cars with unique i.d)
