Description

===================NEED FOR SPEED IV: HIGH STAKES=====================

Date : February 8, 2000

Title : Porsche Boxster S

Type : NFS4 car

Filename : boxt.ZIP

Author : Ben Trapp (and Felixx for some dash textures)

Email Address : bmwbig6@aol.com

(all feedback & comments are welcome)

Home Page : http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gt9775a/nfs4.html

Installation : Unzip the file, then create a folder named

"boxt" in your 'data\cars\' directory (located in

your main NFS4 directory).

Then copy car.viv to the 'boxt' folder.

Then copy the boxt.qfs to the

'data\feart\vidwall\' directory.

Then copy the car.fec file into a new folder called

"boxt" within the '\savedata\cars\' directory

If you have any

problems with the game, it is probably due

to a serial # conflict. If this happens,

open the car.viv file with the latest VIV or

NFS Wizard and change the serial #s in the

fedata and carp.txt files to a # under 50

that no other car has.

Many thanks to Felixx for allowing me to use parts of his 996 dash texture file

in creating my own dash. I would not have been able to make this car without

his help. The dash featured in this Boxster is a combination of his 996 Carrera

dash and my GT3 dash.

No... It's not. This here is his old V1 of the car. On Ben's homepage he provides the much better V3 from the year 2002. Everyone should get that one instead.

I don't know why we get outdated stuff uploaded here soooo often. I don't think this site should be spammed with all the stuff ever relased but more with the most recent and best cars around :/

The thing is that things like "best" and "updated" are instances which are highly flexible and being dependent on the person who's using these words

Best example: Zalcus' El Nino conversion where he did an update to the rear lights texture, making it white which is a good alternative, but not everybody would like it, talking about me, i'd rather have both versions because the original one is more authentic to the original car, having no reverse light texture is not a big deal when the original car didn't even have one but having an Update which features it is also nice to have

This time I don't agree with you. Zalcus' El Nino is a special situation because he gave his car just a little "fix" not everyone (me included) likes... But this Porsche Boxster V1 by Ben Trapp is just outdatet... his V3 is a completely new car with a mesh that is a 100 times more accurate and that looks a 100 times better then this old one. So why should we be bothered with this old stuff instead of the good one? I understand that some people here around like to collect every single version available. But for me the main advantage of NFSAddons against NFSCars was always "Quality over quantity" and there is really no reason to spam this side with old models that nobody should care for because the original author released something waaaay better. Why not having the good version here instead?!?

That is a valid point, but if you're asking me, i consider a good quality car a car.viv with a functioning model where there are no model mistakes (like in this Porsche Boxter probably), a proper carp.txt where at least the opponent acceleration tables are made well (which is in 99.99% not the case if you ask me, also other important things to keyboard users like turn ramps, brake increasing curve, a proper torque curve, etc., good engine sounds.. For me, a good car doesn't necessarily need to have a high quality model, it just needs to work in the game.. If the model has Team RSR quality, then everything is alright eitherway, but since tracks are lowpoly eitherway, i don't bother if there are cars not being too highpoly, though it is nice ofcourse when the model looks something in the area of the actual car in real life. There are even users (over at Discord) who prefer lowpoly cars over highpoly mods because they would fit better to the original game. I can understand that oppinion but i don't share it because it limits mod variety

What i actually wanted to say is that the quality of the model alone is not necessarily the most important part of the mod's quality. It all comes together as an end result and the end result needs to be good which is not the case for me in most cases. That's why i edit them and probably everyone else who is into modding car.viv's does that because everybody has it's own taste/sense of quality (What i'm seeing is most people don't care at all about a nice decent, authentic carp.txt for example, but i can understand if it's hard to make a good carp.txt)

BTW that model here (judging from the given pictures) only needs a rearrangement of the driver's head's local axis (and probably marking all vertices as "rotateable"

All the little errors are fixed in Ben's definitiv edition called V3 on his own homepage. So just go and get the right version... That's exactly what I wanted to say all the time.
