    Well, there are different renderers to use in NFS High Stakes, DirectX, nGlide (which lags with highpoly cars) and dgvoodoo. You can set them in the 3D Setup which you can find inside the installation folder. I'm assuming you're using nGlide since you said that this car would be too high poly, because with nGlide any highpoly car will lag your game. So if you don't need to tab out of your game i would definitely give DirectX a try if i were you
