Description
- Full HD and widescreen resolutions support.
- Improved graphics. No more cars with non-rotating wheels, better textures and models for other's cars, greater view distance in the rear view, etc.
- Fog effect and light beams support in the DirectX 6 (they were exclusive effects for the 3dfx Voodoo).
- Portability. All system settings are loaded from the ini file. No more registry!
- Compatibility. Most problems with modern Windows were fixed. New system settings were added.
- Full support of multi-core processors. Original game could work correctly only on one core. This change dramatically improves performance of the nGlide and the dgVoodoo.
- Alt+Tab support. You can safely minimize the game when nGlide or dgVoodoo driver is used.
- Optimizations and bugfixes. More than 100 changes.

Version 1.6.2 (beta)
uploaded March 18, 2021
Mike uploaded a new version. The new file is 1.65 MB.
- 32bpp rendering for movies. Hide16bitModes and Use32bitModeInMenu ini settings were replaced by the Prefer32bitModes ini setting.
- Fixed a bug of the free GPU RAM detection which was the cause of the invisible cockpit on DX8.
- Movies are visible when DX8 is used.
- No ugly tearing when playing movies on the D3D renderers.
- Most renderers were fixed for proper 32bpp support.
- Automatic detection of the thrash driver type when it is not specified explicitly.
- Further refactoring of the thrash initialization code.
- NoErrorReporting disables windows error reporting for more error types.
- No car engine volume jerking while changing distance between a car and a camera during the race intro.
- Esc (pause) works during race intro animation also.
- The "Synchronizing..." message (when starting a network game) is displayed exactly at the middle of the screen.
- Better text alignment for some buttons in the menu.
- The size of the hint font in the menu was fixed, now it is like in the NFS4. It solves some problems with displaying hints.
- Fixes in the car comparison menu: no redundant sound when switching modes; fixed a bug with autoselection of the first car; always starts from the head-to-head mode; better alignment and layout in the table mode.
- Added a set of buttons with the "Exit Game" button to the Credits and Controls menus.
- A few cosmetic bugfixes and better alignment in the Controls menu.
- NFS3 logo is animated in the Track Information menu.
- Rotation of the pause camera isn't slowing down when FPS is low.
- HUD editor always uses Heli Cam.
- Race music starts to play only when multiplayer game synchronization is finished.
- Fixed a probable deadlock when entering pause menu during multiplayer game.
- dgVoodoo v2.5.4 (Napalm).
- nGlide v1.05 (with additional fix specially for this patch).

Version 1.6.1
uploaded March 18, 2021
Mike uploaded a new version. The new file is 1.59 MB.
- Fixed the problem with Texel Alignment in the DX6, DX7 and DX8 renderers, so everything looks sharp, like when Glide3x is used.
- DX8 supports fog effect. Thanks to Verok for investigation.
- The DX7 graphical glitches like the black polygon near the Old Church were workarounded.
- DX7 doesn't output 640×480×16 if this mode isn't supported. Also it returns sorted list of resolutions now.
- A small optimization of texture loading. The thrash_about isn't called when it is not really needed.
- More strict checking of validity of a thrash driver (a renderer).
- New error messages for some problematic situations: too long path to the root directory (it has not to be longer than 210 characters); thrash driver not found.
- DirectDrawLagFix was renamed to DisableMaxWindowedMode in the thrash.ini files. It is disabled by default now.
- A new DirectDraw compatibility flag NoDwmOffForPrimaryLock was added to the thrash.ini files.
- The game asks a renderer if it supports the fog effect. DX5 and SoftTri always report that they do not support the fog effect.
- Refactoring of the video mode init code. Video mode restore function will not be called twice at exit.
