The best of modern NFS: an NFSHS idea

The egg:

This was for sure one of the hardest cars to convert. There were a lot of carbon fibre parts, engine, well, it was a very tiresome task, but now I'm approaching the end. I just hope the rest are easier.

The project will progress very slowly, so don't expect all the cars to be ready very soon. Especially in Class AAA and AA there are quite a lot of cars from ProStreet (hardest to convert) and each will take around 2 days to convert, plus work on performance, sounds, showcase and possibly even damage, but damage is only for when all are finished and the final touches need to be added, which can even be next year depending on how busy I am with other stuff.

I haven't mapped the bodykit yet but as soon as I manage to put the car in the game I'll post some pictures.

Even though it's not as cool as the McLaren (:p), this looks like an awesome conversion, great job!

PROJECT CANCELLED

Well, the picture explains it all...

The mesh I converted is the level "b" mesh. Apparently EA wanted to make sure they could kill off NFSHS by making level "b" too highpoly, since level "c" and "d" are still those shitty, blocky, useless meshes without interior.

Why am I going to cancel the project? Because there's no point in going further with meshes so highpoly you can't enjoy the game. 11,200 is too much and the game has a high probability of crashing with 3 opponents and in hot pursuit mode. I put a lot of effort in this ProStreet mesh only to find out my work may not be translated into fun.

Maybe it's better to just let the game die. The community has been shattered. Most of the people who modeled for HS wanted to make a living off of 3D design and keeping modelling 6,000-poly cars wouldn't take them anywhere, so they moved onto games which would suit their desire, like GTA or WR2 (the latter not being a very stellar game BTW). In GTASA a strong computer can handle 10+ 100,000-poly cars on the screen at the same time without lag, and memory issues can be solved (unlike NFSHS) by using a community-created tool called the "Limit Adjuster" (Vice City has it too). In the NFS community I've never heard of an effort to create a similar tool for HS. Instead, people wanted to take the easy way out and just move on to HP2 or MW. HP2 is a horrible game and I sincerely can't believe there are people who actually care about it. MW has way too many limitations and I no longer feel the motivation to play it (ProStreet is indeed a better game if you don't count the horrible performance of the E92, I will NEVER forgive EA for what they've done to my baby... I just hope BMW stop being sissies and start giving licenses to someone like Atari or whatever which would make the Bimmers perform like they should, not this absolute joke that they are in ProStreet). The only alternative left is NFSPU, which was left half-cracked as soon as people wanted to mod MW just because of the damn cops and free roam, and will probably remain this way since all the community has in terms of programming is arushan and, if you ask me, it's too little (and I didn't like how he left NFSPU basically only half-compatible with mods IMO).

That's it, people. I could say more stuff but I don't want to enter flame territory and in a small forum like this my words wouldn't have such an impact. I want to thank those who replied for the support and Mike for his willingness to host the file packs. About future releases, they will depend on the amount of free time I have.

Would you mind posting some wireframe pics? It doesn't look that high-poly from what I can tell.
AND, how many polies does the McLaren have? Don't give up on that one just because of the Koenigsegg! ;)

BTW I agree on what you said about HP2 being a horrible game and the lack of serious coders for classic (real) NFS games.

Koenigsegg wireframe:

That interior alone is 2,000+ polies according to ZModeler.

The other car I checked was the Zonda and that seems to have less polies but the wheels are heavier than the Koenigsegg's. I'm positive the other PS cars are at such a range, and, with, for example, a spoiler, the polycount skyrockets... To give you an idea, the Koenigsegg with the widebody has close to 13,000 polies, which means I won't be able to do what I intended to do in the first place... :( I could give the Carbon mesh a try, but that doesn't solve the problem of the other cars not present in the earlier games (especially the M3 E92 and the R8 which I was really looking forward to convert). Another problem is that there are clipping bugs in some bodykit meshes because EA decided to make wheel wells in which only bicycle tires would fit...

It'd also be disappointing for me to convert a McLaren only to find out people would still play with CPD's car because it has like 5x less polies.

I need time to think. However, I made sure the Koenigsegg was finished before I came to my earlier conclusions, so, even if I decide not to convert the other cars, there's a chance you'll still see the CCX along with a few others. At least the converting part is not that hard, it just takes a lot of time.

You had me thinking your account got hacked or something...

The game as in the modding community, not the online servers... I ended up meaning more than I intended. :( Online racing won't end until no one wants to play, since it's the purest form of gameplay - the game as it was meant to be played. It's based on fair competition and addon cars/tracks just hurt it unless there's an agreement on what to use. If we're talking in these terms, I think PU was much more worth saving than HS because, as it is, it's that much better IMO (it's my second most played NFS and HS is first only because of the mods... Evolution was so cool  ), but each person is entitled to an opinion. At least while people struggle to make PU work in their PCs and when they do they have to cope with graphic bugs, HS players have few problems. :)

However, there are some mods in progress for HS and HOSS should consider teaming up with these people in the future should the mods achieve success.

Well man, sorry to hear that the project has hit the proverbial wall at 130.....hope that if you do manage to figure it all out, you can still make those cars, since you make then so well.  As always Zpectre, in either case, the effort ans work is greatly appreciated.

WiLL

Yes it is,and still is! I hope to be back some day and work on
some other Track Idea?
Yeah i bet if you had a problem
Like me Zpectre,i think,maybe you'd
think is was worse, lol *Cough. :sadwavey:
maybe you can decide not to convert that
Car well, your Others are Nice,Ya know.
Let's have a better day...?

Still, the exterior doesn't look that bad, and the interior... it's that high-poly because of the attached lights I guess. How many polies do the wheels contain?

BTW I'd really love to see your McLaren. CPD's may have less polies, but I'm convinced the PS conversion would have nicer textures. I'd reduce the polycount for personal use though, especially because I want to do a Pursuit McLaren F1 :D

Zpectre: I never assumed you were talking about online servers. This being a modding community, I took it in that context. :p

Around 600-700.

XJ220

Hmm... well, those 12k polies are well hidden then. But if I was you, I'd still check out the M3 E92. It's a less exotic vehicle, so its polycount should be considerably lower. If it isn't, I'll consider helping you by reducing its polycount ;) Even though I hate the style of current BMW's...

Poorboy123

Well thats to bad your canceling your project.:((

Are you still gonna release the Viper,DB9,SLR,Ford GT, and Carrera GT?:)
