HELP Wanted: Add aditional Car Damage Effects to two Cars

Started by BoxCarRacer, Jul 17, 2017, 2:20 PM

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me add more damage effects to two cars that currently have minimum damage. Or if someone could explain to me how to use zmodeler to add damage to the models.  8)

Thanks in advance.

A quick and dirty way of making damage in ZModeler is to copy the parts you want to damage (make sure the copy goes like "<partname>[D]"), go to vertex mode, activate EXT mode and then use the move tool to "bash" the part.

BoxCarRacer

So in short words the process would be:
1. Use FCE Finish to Extract the Parts.
2. Use Zmodeler (using your directions).
3. Import the parts again with FCE Finish.

Would I be using the TGA files for something in Zmodeler?

Let me know if I misunderstood you.

Thanks.

More like "import the FCE file in Zmodeler" > edit > "export to FCE"

In most cases ZModeler will load the TGA automatically, if not, you just load it in the Material Editor dialog

Thanks AJ!

I'm gonna give it a try.

By the way do you know a way to centercars in FCEFinish I've been editing some cars and when I go and see them in the game they're offset in y in the showroom. No idea why this happens since I haven't edited the x,y,z axis for any part :S

Let me know if you know a workaround.

Make sure you uncheck the  "File" > "onload center model" option in FCE Finish before opening a fce. That sometimes messes a car centering.

BoxCarRacer

AJ,

Pardon my ignorance. I downloaded zmodeler v2.2.6 but I can't figure out how to import the model. Everytime I tried to import it. It seems it doesn't read the *.FCE extension. I tried searching for a plugin, but can't seem to find one on the net.

Can you give me a hand?

Ok, I have tried the dirty way to add damage. What's the elegant way  ???

Thanks in advance...

If the model is quite detailed (with engine, subframes, etc...)? You have to first detach parts from the body(bumpers, hood, fenders, etc...), make a copy of the parts and re-fuse the originals into one again (normal and damaged parts MUST have the same vertex/poly count/flags or they won't work), "bash" the parts and then fuse them into one again.

Wow, That is COMPLEX LOL. Anyway there is also this,

You might have to click each part bit by bit to get it all centered (if it seems to be crashing in ZModeler but opening in FCE Finish 2) and do you have the FCE Centerer tool? If not I could send that to you.
