So, what's the verdict? ;)

Do you like NFS: Shift or do you prefer the Classic NFS. I prefer NFS: High Stakes still, but there's a 1.86% chance that will change when I try Shift. :p

Oliver Oresic

Still classic nfs, shift is more gran gran turismo than nfs.

FerrariMan

I agree ;)

NFS:HS is my favorite :D . Why don't you ever race online?

So far for shift much like PS it's not really a true NFS game but many times better than any UG to carbon and UC style game.the rumor is the crieton games is going to make old style for next year how true this is not known butt they have a good rep for telling the truth.

I sign up shift and PS is a good games but i'm sick of having to drift(stunt driving).Nfs has become a clone game ever since UG1 nothing special what so ever.Wow a honda with a bodykit,or a camaro with a nasty kit too.Nfs needs to go back to the real roots as if FnF movie never happen.

That's true, but I'm not sure how Criterion influence will affect the series...since they are more into arcade than simulation.

As long the street racing FnF theme goes away i been happy

Need for Speed started as simulator with The Need For Speed. NFS 2 was more arcadish and didn't have police but it was a lot funner. Pro Street wasn't a very good attempt at a sim and it's my least favourite NFS but I would still say it's alright. NFS Nitro is pretty cool but it got little promotion.

Thanks to a friend graciously lending me an Ati Radeon hd4650 card, last night I could finally run the Shift demo at a decent pace, and I certainly liked it (although I probably haven't played it enough to run into any bugs yet :p ).

It feels odd to ask such a noob question, but I hope someone can enlighten me, because Google doesn't help: does anyone know if the Shift Demo has a built-in screenshot function like the older games did? I have been pressing the F12 button frequently while watching the nicely cinematic (finally :bigthumb: ) replays, but I haven't been able to find any saved screencaps anywhere on my pc. Or am I gonna have to use Fraps or something for that? (I haven't tried if that works yet, I figured the function would be included like always). Thanks for any feedback.

Jaume08

I certainly doubt there's such a function. I also searched for it and I didn't find nothing so I used fraps.

Remko

Thanks for the reply. Fraps wouldn't work for me either, until I realized how old my version (the last one that was 100% free :p) was - as soon as I installed a recent version it worked fine.

Attached screenshot is nothing special, I'm just glad the demo actually runs and at a decent speed too. I do like the graphics of this game, the motion blur added to background and wheels in screengrabs maybe a somewhat artificial, but it does help give the impression of speed.

I guess that says something about the progress video cards have made through the years; the Radeon 4650 could be considered - with all respect-  a low-to-mid range card by current standards and costs about one-third of what I paid for my Geforce 6600GT back in 2006 :hs: but the poor ol' GF did not know what to do with this demo (or with other recent games such as Colin McRae Dirt).

Edit: attachment no worky, Photobucket to the rescue:

No waay, Remko so you got the Game huh?
How you Like it? Nice pic :D ;)
Let's have a better day...?

Remko

Hey thanks, Will :) Don't have the full game yet, only been playing the demo so far.
I do like the feel of it, seems like a nice middle ground between sim and more forgiving arcade-y, real life tracks are a bonus too.
Don't know if I'll be playing the demo much longer though, mostly because of A: it refuses to remember your controller settings and B: that promotion video that it insist on showing EVERY time you finish a race - or even when you interrupt a race just to go back to the menu - and NO way to skip it, I must have sat through it over twenty times already.
But I think I may give the full game a try soon.
