I decided to go for the gold when i finally got around to apgrade my computer. So I decided to get an Asus A8R32-MVP deluxe crossfire ready edition, with dual ATI Radion AEX1600 pro 512 mb DDR2 cards for a 1 gig video memory. Unfortunately I had to lower my CPU to a AMD 64 socket 939 3500+ which is only about 2.5 ghz with 1 gig of DDR2 Ram, but I nwill be upgrading that to 4 gigs of ram soon, and a 4800+ dual core soon.. :)
I am always waiting for zonda's to make an appearance in games...

always..

going multi GPU for gaming is quite possibly the dumbest idea ever. why? you pay twice as much for a low powered card...but in a few months, the same price you paid for those cards will get you a card that's more than twice as good performing as the two you just bought.  in your case, you also dropped to a single core when you could have easily gotten a dual core if you hadn't spent the money on the dual video cards.

ATi? you mean AMD?

but if you look into it, a high powered card is only high powered. with these two cards not only do i have twice the speed of a regular 1 gig video ram card (being that they use alternate frame rendering, or each card produces half an image) but also they have more pipelines to transfer the data faster wiht dual transfers it is faster than one mega card.  As for a processor, even if i did not get dual video cards, i would still not have enough money, i made this computer with parts i got fomr the internet more or less, for under $1100 canadian, i have yet to see, nor anyone who knows of my computer and its power, a better computer for less money on the market. i will jsut have to wait untill next summer, when i start tog o toowkr again so i can finally finish upgrading.

i meant at the time ATI, i just read now that AMD is now the owner, whoops..

don't try to argue reason with rally master; you will lose.

personally I feel spending over $200 on any one single function for your comp is stupid. since no matter how many video cards you throw in suit the same purpose I will agree with rm that it's stupid to go SLI. :)

it's not about buying the best stuff now -- it's about getting the most power for the money.

this said, since I spent over $600 on upgrading my comp and have no PCI-e video cards in my arsenal, I am running a PNY brand GeForce 4 MX PCI card. it is quite possibly one of the worst video cards I've ever had the blessing of using in a FPS game.

my friend spent over 3000 on an alienware with two 7950gx2 in quad sli.
wait about an year and the fucker won't even be able to update seeing as how it's liquid cooled and he can't even open his case without tearing it apart.

right now until my parts come in this friday i'm on a pos intel integrated thing.

RiCkT

yeah the idea sounds good, the 8800 will drop in price pretty soon.
i will buy a new system after christmas and i think ill go all into depth for some power.
i mainly need a good gfx card for games and alot of ram and good CPU for rendering...
cuz when i try to render my BMW, it tells me i got not enuff ram for Step 4 Rendering :/

I have a old vid card.  I'm using a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI with 16 megs of Ram.  So far I know that it runs NFS3, NFS5, 4X4 EVO, Diablo, Diablo 2 LOD, Madden 2001, Triple Play 2001, Rainbow 6 (original), Hot Rod American Street Drag (barely, I need a driver for the card that is directx 8.1 compliant to make it work perfect but there isn't one that I know of,yet), Dungeon Siege, Warcraft 3, Dues Ex, Wheel Of Fortune 2003, Simcity 3000 and Superbike 2001.  I am looking to get NHL 2001or 2002 at a used game store soon.  They should run as well.
