About 160km/h as a passenger in my bros old car, an 86 VW Jetta, at like 11 at night, in the middle of a Canadian winter, with high winds and snow drifting right across the road in places.

Not at first.  I didn't even realize the speed we were going until I look at the speedometer and went a bit nuts.  The car was in pretty good shape at the time.
