7 forward gears in NFS4?

I'm converting the Merc CLK 500 from MW, which has a 7-gear automatic gearbox. However, whenever I make a 7-gear transmission in NFS Wizard and shift into 7th in the game, the car acts as though no power is being sent to the wheels (very much like neutral), handles like it is in reverse gear and the engine shoots into redline. Besides, when I put 7 forward gears instead of 6, the car accelerates much faster up to 6th. I remember reading in NFSCars that some people have managed to do it (Beowulf, among others), but I think it's impossible since I adjusted every setting I thought to be related to the gearing and got the same results. Maybe some old members of the community could help me with it...

Note: I know for sure that you cannot have 8 forward gears, because it makes the game crash.

He got it to work with NFS3, I'm sure you could test it out with NFS4, and you could use it for your CLK and mod it to its specs.

well i don't think it would be better to ask the author for permission to use parts from his vehicle first ^^ but since when did a 66 vic get 7 gears?

He did the custom carp, it was a NFS4 to NFS3 conversion.

Well, NFS3 CARP files are nearly the same as NFS4 ones, so it's worth a try...

EDIT: Didn't work... That CARP gives way too much power to the car, that's most probably why it worked for that car.

You have to modify the torque curve to make it work with NFS4. The torque curve in NFS3 carps goes up in 250 RPM increments and the torque curve in NFS4 carps goes by 500 RPM increments.

Has anybody ever digged into this further? I wonder if it's just a few bytes to change or if it's like hardcoded stuff which needs writing of a whole script

Cooya!

To be honest I can only guess but I am "pretty sure" that max. 6 gears are hardcoded in the exe... Because a car with 7 gears just DID NOT EXIST in 1999! So why should they make that even possible?!? And does it reeeeaaally matter? NFS4 is an arcade racing game with very little realism... Try to make a carp.txt that is some kind of plausible and everyone is fine. For sure there are other issues to fix that are by far more important than that :/

I hope you didn't get my last comment about your carps the wrong way, i really love them ^^ Because they are so unique and authentic. I just like to put hands on any mod i can grab
You are probably right. As far as i know the bytes after the 6th gear are already in use for something else. So it would probably be a jump to some other position that is not used in the EXE and that probably requires experienced disassembly changing.. I shouldn't be too optimistic on those old topics xD

Yep. You are totally right. For example: There should be fucking brakelight textures for nfs4. If they can put interior textures on top of unlit interior textures, they could have done brakelight textures and reverse light textures. Or some more parts for example. But again this is a game from 1999 and the developers got rushed during development. But i think that an advanced disassembly modder could write scripts for that
