Well, I imagined it might be a relief for you, that's what I meant.  Like I said good thing you didn't give up.
Also, thanks to AJ and XJ220 for all their advices, I wasn't sure what the best solution was myself.

About NFSWizard, I was able to install that by running the installer (nfswiz05.exe) in Compatibility Mode for Windows 98/me, that's all.
Once it was installed, I didn't need to run the tool itself in any compatibility mode, so far it's working fine for me.

You have to set damage to "full"

Yeah, that's about the only issue I have with the SP/EP, the only way to make you cars 'solid' is to set Damage/Collision 'on' under Driver Assists, but then your car will take more and more damage each time you hit something, always busting your lights during night and weather mode (although that's also because I'm not very good).

I believe someone made an alternative version of the nfshs.exe that DID allow you to have Collision On and Damage Off, but I'm having trouble finding it at the moment. I'll report later when I find it.

How much does the SP rely on the executables that come with it being used?

I am using a... modified 4.50 exe (the game's in my shelf twice ) which does not alter collision at all. But like I said, I don't use the SP to begin with.

The Mercury patch is what fixes the 1 MB error so you'd better reinstall it
