2003 BMW 325i Sport...

This isnt my car, but its very similar (mine has the sport package with 17" 7-spoke wheels).
Is there a way to post attachments on this forum? I have actual pics of my car but I cant attach them.

HiFi

Use tinypic.com or imageshack.us
They allow you to upload pictures for free, without registering.

Don't have a good camera yet, and it's not even my car. But I'm proud of my father's Porsche 928S. I got a buffer so I'll wax it soon enough. I fixed the skirts and completely repaired and cleaned the interior.

Car Freak

Here's my parent's old car, which they still haven't decided to keep or sell  That's the block of flats I live in in the top right corner

It's a 2001 Mazda 323 1.6

I'll snap a pic of the new car, once my mum comes back from Malaysia with the camera

You call that old? Before my dad bought the 03 Impala, we were driving in a 1992 Chevy Lumina. Ugh, I remember that car: smashed hood and doors, leaky muffler, no heat/ac, ripped seats, orange dust over everything. :eek4: (Also, the odometer was nearing 200,000 miles!) It was a piece of shit for many years.

Car Freak

Here in Singapore, 5 years is considered quite old already.

There's a few factors to this:
Chiefly, it's because of this tax called Certificate of Entitlement (COE), which is valid for 10 years only. There's different categories for different engine capacities (below 1600cc, above 1600cc, Goods and Commercial vehicles, taxis, Open category).
However, once the time is up, owners have the chance to renew the COE, but then road tax (also based on engine cap) goes up for older cars.
Therefore, few ppl actually bother keeping their cars after 10 yrs.

Then there's also the Chinese (majority of population) superstitions. Something like new is better or something like that (I'm not a very superstitious person :squint: )

The stupid thing about all the taxes means Singapore is one of THE most expensive places to buy and own a car. For example, our new Mitsubishi Grandis, a 2.4l 7-seater people-carrier cost $70k, and that's only because of all the discounts (they were gonna phase in a new facelifted model). U.P. was $85k
A small sedan like the Toyota Corolla 1.6 costs about $55k
Exec car like the Chrysler 300C 3.5? $160k. Or, if you'd rather have more quality, the Merc E200 is $180k
Small exec car like the BMW 320i? $155k
Large sedan like the Honda Accord 2.0 is almost $90k
A small SUV like the Hyundai Tuscon 2.0 is $71k (and that's because, being a Hyundai, it's cheap). The class leaders, Honda CR-V, Nissan X-Trail and Toyota RAV4 are between 85-90k.
Larger SUVs? Volvo XC90=200k  Mercedes ML350=228k  Lexus RX350=150k   Porsche Cayenne S=320k
As you can see, the badge makes a HUGE difference in the price...

Another Singaporean mindset is that no matter what car we buy, we try to go for the smallest engine in the biggest body. in other words, a well-specced base model.

And that's pretty what it's like to own a car in Singapore

Stinge, when i said old car, I meant previous car

@Kracka: is that your own camaro or googled image? nice and so undergroundish inpression btw :)

@stylizer: its also called city here, and probably the best and impressive model among citys i have seen. the new city suck.

@boy91: i always dream of a bmw :D i hope that i will be able one day to buy a brand new m3.

@car freak:

90k usd for an accord.... :eek3::eek3::eek3: it means 54lac rupees herein pakistan. you can buy two euro accords for 90kusd. because euro accord here cost 46k usd. (28 lac)..and remember, cars here come with 100% tax.

somewhat same rule goes in Japan that every 5 years? you have to either put in the new engine or just piss off ur car. people there often choose the 2nd option. :D thats y most engines in Japan are disposable. hey guys, I learnt that disposable engines are un-repairable? is that true? btw, theres no concept of disposable engines in Pakistan here. and we dont get to see most of the cars here because no spare parts are available here or for high price. even that damn FIAT UNO has very expesive parts. i know once i hit an electric tower while reversing UNO and broke the rear window. it cost me 150 USD for that ...phewwwwww :O

I think he meant 90k Singapore dollar, which is like 50k usd. Which is about the going rate for Accords in India if Im not mistaken. Here (in US) their like 20k for the 4cylinder, and 25-30 for the 6 cylinder. :D Then again, I did see a Jag X type for 90k usd in KL, and that was with a 30k rm discount, so that may well be in USD....
The new City sucks in part because the engine has 73hp. If they had renewed the 110HP Vtec model, it would have been much better. Something about fuel economy is why I think they did that, but my idea of progress isnt a 35hp drop.
I loved the old city though. It was a sweet car, could own anything short of a C200 any day. There was once an overdrive test, the City vtec model came in as the 3rd fastest car in India, behind the E200 and the S320 which cost like 35 and 60 lakhs compared to the 9.5 for the City
The City 1.5 was the best thing in its class, though a bit pricy.

D70s is nowhere near $1300...Itll run you around 900 including lens.
Im using a Cybershot DSC W50, and also a couple of fully manual 35mm cameras: nikon fm10, and a Canon something from 25 years ago.
