Ah yes . All the weird and not-so-wonderful cars from my China trip... One observation I made was that the Americans have taken over China. Apart from the MacD's and KFCs around, they drive on the right (LHD cars), and those that do speak English (namely our tour guide) speak like an American. And then there were the masses of US cars there.

Buicks, and lots of them. Regals, LaCrosses, Park Avenues etc etc etc etc, these were one of the most common brands I saw there (the most common in fact if you don't count all the VW taxis)
Also numerous Cadillacs. Mostly the CTS, but I did see 2 STSs, 2 SRXs and an Escalade on the day we left
3 Hummer H2s and one H3. One of the H2s belonged to someone working at the hotel I stayed at, and at times i saw it next to an X5 and Cayenne. God the H2's big
A Lincoln Navigator
A growing number of brand new Ford Mondeos and S-MAXs. Noticed that the Mondeo has to have a certain rim design and be the 4dr, otherwise the proportions look off.
Big luxo barges... Meaning the S-class, A8 and 7-series. Some were the base V6s, some were the mid-range V8s, but surprisingly there were also many top-of-the-line V12s. I.e. the Merc S600, Audi A8 W12 and BMW 760iL
While on the subject of luxury cars, the most common by a mile was the Audi A6. All were the L version, and I even got close enough to see the 4.2 badge on one of them. That's right, it's the V8 one
And now to the regular stuff:
2 F430s
5 911s (including a 997 Turbo Cabrio)
crap load of Cayennes (incl 4 Turbos and one Turbo S)
Range Rovers and RR Sports (none supercharged)
Rolls Royce Silver Seraph (mistook it for a Bentley Arnage until I walked past it again)
Merc G500 - Really cool Gangsta car
a TT, 1 SL350, many 3 series Coupes and Cabrios
a Porsche Boxster
a VW Borat (instead of Bora; was quite a laugh)
a few others I cant remember.

Basically I was genuinely surprised at the number of premium cars on the roads. I was also surprised (and disgusted) at the audacity of some Chinese manufacturers (or copy machines). Some of the knock-offs were unbelievable, all they had on was a different badge! One was the previous Toyota Echo, the 4dr Yaris. Unbelievable, the only thing different was the badging. Another was the Mazda 323 which became the Haima Family. WTF? Exactly the same. The funny thing was, there quite a few genuine 323s on the road as well. There was also the Haima 3. Guess what that one is? Then there was the Soueast Lioncel, a direct copy of a really old Mit Lancer, the Shuanghuan SCEO, with the front and rear or Toyota Land Cruiser and BMW X5 respectively, the highly unsafe Jiangling Landwind (Opel Frontera), the Chery Tiggo T11, a Toyota RAV4 with a different front, the Chery A168, a Mk1 Seat Toledo, and finally the Brilliance BS6, or Brilliantly BullShit as I like to call them. Particularly for the BS6 (most of which were taxis), quality was appalling in every way. Horrendously uneven panel gaps (whether down to poor repair work or build quality I couldn't tell, but then all the VW Passats and Hyundai Sonatas and VW Santanas were equally beat up yet didn't have this problem) and even worse interior build quality. I sat in one of those taxis and this is what the inside was like. The plastic at the bottom of the rear footwell right beneath the wall had cracked and broken long ago, same for the inside of the rear door handles (actually it was completely missing), the glovebox wouldnt close properly, the central glovebox between the front seats was so loose it shook about, and there was a hole in the steering wheel where the horn button was. And I'm not talking about the button being pushed into the wheel. Oh no, the fake leather was actually TORN, and you could see some of the internal bits of the steering wheel. The hole was big enough for a fat man's thumb to go through. Oh and the front passenger door was slightly jammed, so i had to squeeze in the back with every one else. It was truly sickening to see a car made so badly.

I took quite a number of pictures related to all this, so I'll post them on the next post after I upload them. Until then, cya
