Hi all.

If you’re disappointed with this year’s NFS missing the traditional custom (aka “quick”) race mode, and not particularly amused by the prospect of redoing the exact same event over and over in order to beat a friend’s time, driven by a ceaseless stream of Autolog prompts… well, there’s something we can at least try to do about it.

Apparently, assorted members of the Criterion Games team keep an eye on their Twitter account, which is why an enterprising NFS fan, tgomola, came up with this ingenious plan I’m about to repost here.

Remember, even if you’re only toying with the idea of getting the game within, say, the next 5 years, what with Shift 2 and the Black Box effort (possibly an Underground 3, who knows?) to be released next year, there will probably be zero development of this title as early as 12 months from now. Consequently (as much as I hate to sound like some shady politician hunting for votes) the time to act is NOW.

The details:

Everyone who misses the Quick Race and wants to participate should do that:

1. Use his existing Twitter account or create a new one (on http://twitter.com)
2. Post [the following “twit”] message there:

@NeedforSpeed @CriterionGames http://bit.ly/i7Iejs #NFSHPQuickRaceProtest

Now a quick explanation, for those who are not familiar with Twitter:

a) the first two phrases beginning with '@' are used to get the NFS team and Criterion's attention. They'll see these messages as addressed to them.
b) the link leads to a letter with explanation why the Quick Race is so important and why it should be patched in.
c) the final phrase, beginning with "#" is a hashtag, by clicking it, Twitter will display every message that contains a certain tag. That way I'll be able to see how many participants there are.

That’s it. Let me add that if you don’t have a Twitter account (as was the case with me, as I had always perceived the platform as a medium intended for little girls, which might seem oddly fitting, given that HP2010 appears to have been developed primarily with little boys in mind), the whole process (including registration) is a 5-minute job.

Not much effort in return for a possibility of something as replay value-friendly as a custom race menu, wouldn’t you say?
