What's the difference between the serial number and the car ID?

EDIT: Nevermind, I've figured it out. I replaced the default M5 with the new one, changing the serial number and id with NFS Wizard, and it works perfectly. Thanks for all the help. :)

Thanks for the help guys.

The client-side lag is an ongoing problem, I've tried positional updates but it still occurs, but funnily enough, it's only a big problem on one of the two clients. (The second client gets a little lag, but it's hardly noticable, I'm not sure what the difference is)

Anyway, I have a couple more questions: Firstly, would it break the game if I were to delete some of the official cars (Say, the La Nina) from the game to make more room?

And the second question, which is closely related to the first one... This car; the BMW M5 (E39), is essentially a more detailed version of the BMW M5 already in the game, so it makes sense to use it as a replacement rather than have them both in the game side-by-side. The question is: If I were to replace the existing, official M5's car.viv with that of the new one (assuming the serial number is the same), would it still work exactly as it should? (Would all of the features of the EA car, such as the showcase, etc. still work?)

NFSHS may be old now, but it's holding up surprisingly well technically, and it's great for LAN play, I've run into two problems though.

1.) Peculiar lag on the client side only. I host the game with the settings "client/server" and "controller updates", and it's fine for me but the clients have odd problems with the game pausing, as if it's ceasing to update player positions for a few seconds, then resuming. Understandably, this tends to foul up one's driving. This is on a 100 m/bit LAN connection, so connection speed is not the problem.

2.) I'm using a few custom cars and although they seem to work fine in single player, some of them don't work properly in multiplayer. You choose a custom car and start the game, and find you've got a different car. Say, for example, that I choose the Aston Martin DB7 and start the race, I end up with a BMW M Roadster.

The cars installed (on all three computers I use for the LAN games) are:
Aston Martin DB7
BMW M Roadster
BMW M Coupe
Ferrari 360 Modena
Jaguar XJR15
Lister Storm
by EA

BMW M5 (e34)
BMW 740i
Mercedes Benz AMG C43
Mercedes Benz AMG E55
Mercedes Benz CLK55 AMG Coupe
Mercedes Benz CLK55 AMG Convertible
Porsche Boxster
Porsche 911 (996) GT3
Porsche 968 Clubsport

and

Chevrolet Camaro RS 92

Could it be a serial number conflict that's causing this problem? And if so, how would I fix it?
