A continuation of the Most Wanted story— My Fanmade Story Concept: The Last Run
Hey everyone!
I've been working on a fairly large fanmade concept for a Need for Speed game that, in my opinion, could have been a natural evolution of Need for Speed Unbound while bringing together different eras of the franchise.
I'm calling it:
Need for Speed: The Last Run
This is 100% fanmade. It isn't an EA project, a leak, or based on insider information. It's simply my personal vision of what I think Unbound could have been.
This project is much bigger than what I can explain in one post, so for now I want to focus specifically on the main story and its characters.
---
⚠️ The Continuity
There is one important change to the original continuity that needs to be established first.
My version changes the ending of Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2005).
After the events in Rockport, Mia and the protagonist become a couple.
The protagonist eventually leaves Mia with her family before travelling to Palment City, where the events of Need for Speed: Carbon take place.
After defeating Darius and finishing the events in Palmont, he returns to Mia.
From that point onward, they spend several years travelling together from city to city, making money through street racing and living a relatively nomadic life.
They race, win, move on and start over somewhere else.
Approximately 4–5 years after the events of Carbon, their journey brings them to Lakeshore.
And this is where The Last Run begins.
---
🏙 Arriving in Lakeshore
Mia and the protagonist arrive in Lakeshore in the Black Emerald.
At first, they aren't planning to stay there permanently.
It's supposed to be another stop on their journey.
Race a few events, make some money, enjoy the city and eventually move on.
However, they soon hear about The Grand, Lakeshore's biggest street-racing competition.
The prize money is enormous, and the best racers in the city are already preparing for it.
The protagonist decides to enter.
But Lakeshore holds another surprise.
Three familiar faces are already there:
Eddie.
Darius.
Razor.
However, they aren't there simply because the story needs old characters to appear. Each of them has their own reason for coming to Lakeshore.
---
🟢 Eddie — Looking for New Ideas
Eddie comes to Lakeshore with Melissa because he's looking for new tuning parts, new cars and new ideas.
After years of building and modifying cars, he's interested in seeing what the Lakeshore street-racing scene has to offer.
When he hears about The Grand, he sees an opportunity to test himself against a completely new generation of racers.
He decides to stay and compete.
---
🟣 Darius — Following the Money
Darius has a much simpler motivation.
He hears about the enormous prize money surrounding The Grand.
And his reaction is essentially:
"That money is coming home with me."
He travels to Lakeshore to compete, but quickly realizes that the Grand is much more serious than he initially expected.
He sees an opportunity not only to make money, but to prove that his driving skills are still among the best.
---
🔴 Razor — Chasing the M3
Razor's reason for being in Lakeshore is much more personal.
After escaping prison, he follows the trail of the BMW M3 GTR to Palmont.
He eventually discovers what remains of the car and rebuilds it.
When he hears about The Grand in Lakeshore, he sees an opportunity to enter the competition and prove himself again.
But there's a problem.
The police are still looking for him.
So Razor keeps the M3 hidden and enters The Grand using a Ford Mustang GT.
The protagonist initially has no idea that Razor has the M3.
That secret becomes one of the major revelations of the story.
---
🟢 Week 1 — Eddie
The first week is about tuning, creativity and street-racing culture.
Eddie is the protagonist's first major rival.
His philosophy is simple:
A car isn't just a machine.
It's an extension of the person driving it.
The racers encountered throughout the week mostly drive JDM cars, with highly customized builds, body kits, wheels, wraps and other visual modifications.
The protagonist gradually learns that becoming a great street racer isn't only about having the fastest car.
It's also about creating something that represents you.
During this week, Eddie reveals more about why he, Darius and Razor came to Lakeshore.
After a series of events, the protagonist finally challenges Eddie.
He wins.
Reward: Nissan Silvia S15.
But Eddie isn't the only person paying attention to the protagonist.
Darius is already watching.
---
🟣 Week 2 — Darius
Darius represents a completely different philosophy.
Precision.
Technique.
Control.
The second week takes the protagonist outside the city and into the surrounding mountain roads.
Instead of simply racing through Lakeshore, he encounters several smaller racing crews controlling different territories in the outskirts.
Before earning the right to challenge Darius, the protagonist has to defeat these crews and establish himself in their territory.
The cars and events of the week reflect the environment, with rally-inspired and performance-oriented builds becoming much more common.
Darius isn't impressed by flashy cars.
He wants to know whether the protagonist can actually drive.
Throughout the week, the protagonist becomes more precise and learns to trust his car instead of simply relying on power.
Darius also begins revealing something more important:
Alec.
There is someone behind The Grand who has far more influence over Lakeshore's racing scene than anyone initially realizes.
Eventually, the protagonist earns his chance to race Darius.
He wins.
Reward: Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
But the information Darius has revealed leaves the protagonist with more questions than answers.
---
🔴 Week 3 — Razor
The third week changes everything.
The protagonist has learned how to build his car.
He's learned how to drive it.
Now he has to learn how to survive.
Razor becomes the main rival.
The week focuses heavily on police pursuits, evasive driving and escaping increasingly aggressive police responses.
The secondary racers reflect this philosophy, using powerful cars designed to accelerate hard and survive intense chases.
And Razor knows exactly what he's doing.
He has experience.
A lot of it.
Because Razor has his own history with the protagonist.
After escaping prison, Razor followed the trail of the BMW M3 GTR to Palmont.
He eventually discovered what remained of the car and rebuilt it.
When he heard about The Grand, he came to Lakeshore.
But there was a problem.
The police were still looking for him.
So Razor kept the M3 hidden and entered the competition using a Ford Mustang GT.
The protagonist initially doesn't know that Razor has the M3.
Eventually, however, the truth comes out.
And suddenly the Grand isn't just about winning money anymore.
Something much bigger is happening in Lakeshore.
---
📻 Mia and Cross
While the protagonist is becoming increasingly involved in The Grand, Mia begins noticing that something is wrong in Lakeshore.
Alec's influence extends far beyond the racing scene.
Mia eventually discovers information about what Alec is planning and realizes that the situation is becoming dangerous.
She contacts Cross, someone she already knows from her time in Rockport, and informs him about Alec and what is happening in Lakeshore.
This gives Cross a reason to become involved in the situation.
Mia also occasionally helps the protagonist during police pursuits through the radio.
Her experience as an undercover officer gives her knowledge of police tactics, roadblocks and how the Lakeshore Police operate.
Her support is brief and situational, but it reminds the protagonist that Mia still understands exactly how the other side thinks.
---
🍽 The Dinner
After the first three weeks, the story slows down.
Instead of another major race, the characters sit down together for dinner.
Mia.
The protagonist.
Eddie.
Darius.
Razor.
Yaz.
Rydell.
At first, the atmosphere is understandably awkward.
These people have history.
Some of them have been rivals.
Some of them have chased each other.
Some of them have completely different personalities.
But as the dinner continues, the tension gradually disappears.
They start having normal conversations.
They joke around.
They tell stories.
They laugh.
For once, they're not rivals.
They're simply a group of people who share the same passion for cars.
It's also an important moment for the protagonist and Mia.
After spending years travelling together, this is another reminder that Lakeshore has become more than just another city on their journey.
Something is changing.
By the end of the dinner, Razor finally gives the protagonist the BMW M3 GTR.
The car that started all of this is finally back in the protagonist's hands.
Now there's only one thing left.
The Grand.
---
🟡 Week 4 — Alec
Everything has been building towards this.
The final week is about the best of the best.
The protagonist now has to face the strongest racers in Lakeshore.
The cars are faster.
The stakes are higher.
The events are more demanding.
The previous weeks each represented a different part of street racing.
Now all of those lessons come together.
The protagonist defeats the final competitors and finally earns the right to face Alec.
But Alec isn't simply another racer.
He's the person who has been manipulating the situation surrounding The Grand.
Through his influence and power, he has been restricting the freedom of Lakeshore's street racers and controlling the scene for his own benefit.
But there's something even more disturbing.
Alec has been targeting Mia.
His plans eventually escalate to the point where he intends to kidnap Mia in order to use her against the protagonist and eliminate one of the biggest threats to his control over Lakeshore.
Mia's decision to contact Cross becomes crucial.
Cross now knows exactly who Alec is and what he is planning.
The protagonist has spent the entire game climbing through the Grand.
Now he's finally standing at the top.
And the final race is:
BMW M3 GTR vs. Alec's Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
A black Demon with a white demon-head design on its sides.
Everything comes down to this.
The protagonist wins.
---
🚔 The Fall of Alec
Alec's defeat finally gives Cross the opportunity to move against him.
The information Mia provided, combined with everything that has happened in Lakeshore, gives Cross enough reason to intervene.
Cross arrests Alec.
The same Cross who once pursued the protagonist through Rockport is now the person taking down the game's final antagonist.
It's a full-circle moment.
The protagonist isn't the only person who has changed since Rockport.
Cross has changed too.
And so has Mia.
After everything that happened in Lakeshore, Mia finally makes her decision.
She leaves the police.
Her life as an undercover officer is over.
She doesn't need to keep living two lives anymore.
She can finally move forward.
The characters say their goodbyes.
And after everything they've been through, Mia and the protagonist leave Lakeshore together.
They drive away in the BMW M3 GTR.
The journey continues.
But for the first time, they're not necessarily looking for another city to conquer.
They're simply moving forward together.
---
🌅 The Ending
The game transitions into a tribute to Paul Walker.
The credits begin.
"Nine Thou" plays.
The story appears to be over.
But there are two final scenes.
---
🍽 Post-Credits Scene 1 — The Townsend Family
Mia and the protagonist have dinner with her family.
Her father.
Her mother.
Her brother Leo Townsend.
The atmosphere is much more relaxed than the dinner earlier in the game.
The family asks the protagonist questions about himself, his life with Mia and everything they've been through.
It's a quiet scene.
No racing.
No police.
No Grand.
Just family.
Until Mia's mother casually asks:
"And do you two ever think about making us grandparents?"
Silence.
Mia is completely caught off guard.
The protagonist is trying desperately not to laugh.
Mia:
«"Mom..."»
And that's it.
The game doesn't answer the question.
It doesn't confirm whether Mia and the protagonist eventually have children.
It doesn't deny it either.
It's deliberately left open to interpretation.
---
🌊 Post-Credits Scene 2 — The Beach
The final scene takes place on the beach.
Mia and the protagonist sit together, looking out at the ocean.
They talk briefly about everything that happened.
Rockport.
Palmont.
The years they spent travelling together.
Lakeshore.
The Grand.
Everything that brought them to this point.
They've finally reached the end of their journey.
Mia looks at the protagonist.
They share one final kiss.
The camera slowly pulls away.
The ocean continues in the background.
The M3 GTR sits nearby.
Fade to black.
THE END

Final Thoughts
That's the core story of Need for Speed: The Last Run.
I wanted it to feel like more than a simple nostalgia trip.
The returning characters aren't there just to make cameos.
Eddie, Darius, Razor and Alec each represent a different stage of the protagonist's journey.
Mia and the protagonist also have an established history together, connecting Most Wanted, Carbon and Unbound into one continuous personal journey.
There's a lot more to this project that I haven't covered here — gameplay ideas, the full soundtrack and radio stations, cars, visual direction, Fast & Furious references, non-canon ideas and plenty of smaller details.
But trying to explain everything in one post would probably turn this into a small novel. 😂
So for now, this is the story.
