Now what cars can i download that i can play in high stakes mode cop mode thanks.
Most cop cars you can download you can use it cop mode. And yes, you need the high poly patch.

The game crashes simply because its game engine is old and it cannot handle a large number of polies at the same time.
Here are the poly limits for the game modes...
Single Race: Around 45,000, but it depends on the track
Hot Pursuit: It really depends on the track here... The new High Stakes cars (before Raceway) are VERY unstable and are more likely to crash your game when using high-poly cars. I'd say 30,000-35,000 is a reasonable estimate
Those Trans Ams you downloaded (probably F-Body Faction's) have over 10,000 polies. If you play on Classic pursuit mode and two of these cars show up (both your car and your opponent's), there's a high chance that the game will crash. To try to remedy this problem, you can download low-poly traffic.

30-40ks is the poly limit! :o Why does the game have to crash on cars at only 15k polies :( Its probably my computer :squint:
Whats the max number of polys I can use without the high poly patch? Im talking when Im using a downloaded car with a full field of normal cars.
Also, whats the average number of polys for the standard cars?
For example, I downloaded a Viper GTS, and could play when I was on the track by myself. But when I played with a full grid, the game crashed before it finished loadin the race
The high-poly patches only make it possible to view cars with ca. 12500 polies in the menu. They don't make it possible to render more polies during a race.
The standard EA HS cars are est. 1500 polies or less AFAIK.
Did you play with a full grid of Vipers or with a full mixed grid?
I just put "full grid, AA class"
Also, will the high-poly patch affect the standard cars?
What was the patch to make NFSHS run on XP again?
Quote from: Car FreakI just put "full grid, AA class"
Then it was most likely not the amount of polies which made your game crash.

It'll only turn off their reflections in the menu, nothing more, nothing less.

There is a tutorial at NFSCars on how to get HS to work on XP.
Long story short about running NFS HS on XP, would be to install "Stockpack" posted by Jimdiabolo in the top post on this page: http://forum.needforbetterspeed.net/index.php?showtopic=12658&st=15
It contains both the Spot 3D patch which will make NFS4 work with modern video cards, and the Menu patch. There are other options as well, (IP Lounge, No collision patch), but those are only for when you want to play online with the IP lounge, you don't need to install them in order for the game to work.
List of NFS4 tracks from most to least stable regarding polycounts in Hot Pursuit mode:
Euro (NFS4) tracks:
Route Adonf
Landstrasse
Kindiak Park
Snowy Ridge
Dolphin Cove
Celtic Ruins
Durham Road
NFS3 tracks:
Empire City
Hometown/Country Woods
Atlantica/Aquatica
Rocky Pass/Summit
Redrock Ridge/Lost Canyons
Contrary to popular belief, the lists above don't have anything to do with polycounts or level of detail (polycount limit based on amount of detail is only universal in Single Race mode). For example, in Single Race I can run 4 of some cars in Celtic Ruins, whereas the game won't let me do the same in Summit, because Summit is a more complex track.
On the other hand, in Hot Pursuit mode I can play in Summit with certain cars whose polycount adds to a certain amount, but, if I did this in Celtic Ruins, with the same cars, the game would crash. The problem is related to the positions of the tracks in the game's tracklist. I could confirm this by using the NFSHS mixer to exchange positions between tracks and putting Celtic Ruins in the place of a track whose poly limit was supposedly higher. The result was I could run Celtic Ruins without problems (except for the cop voices, which were all wrong).
The only way to get around this would be tweaking the EXE (not the original EXE, which is just a launcher, but the EXE data kept inside the NFSHS.ICD file, for those that don't know), to make it use more memory. Memory is the issue here, because NFS4 not only can't render high-poly cars, but also resizes large TGAs (512x512 TGAs have big filesizes) and doesn't accept long sound samples. The biggest problem is finding someone willing to do it, since it's an old game (less attention) and EA wouldn't just give away the code (considering they're so protective over their products). I wonder why the people who do the cracking in the community (Addict, arushan, etc.) didn't try it, though.
Well, I installed the high-poly patch, and I must say, the graphics have greatly improved! Especially the car windows, they are now clear and I can see the driver.
So I played around with it, including the cars I had just downloaded. Then I went to career mode, and bought myself a '69 Charger R/T 440, the link is below. anyway, when in the single race "car select" screen and showroom screen, the car looked fine. But when I clicked "purchase", the game crashed. As in the screen just went black.
So I Alt-F4'd the game (like how I did before I downloaded the high-poly patch) to bring me to the desktop. And here's the main point: when I restarted the game, the screen became black and stayed like that. :(( What's wrong? :dunno: (normally it would turn black and the the "Electronic Arts" logo would come on)
