Title: Problem with DirectX 9.0
Post by: ROCKPORT POLICE GUY on Apr 02, 2008, 1:27 PM
i tried installing Crashday today. when tried starting it up, it keeps on telling it can't intiate the DirectX 9.0 software, because of a problem with system configaration. i really want to play on Cday, but i can't because of the DirectX! BTW, it says in the manual that it asks you if you want to install the DX, but it won't do that. i try installing it manually, but it doesn't do it properly. takes microseconds for it finish (or so it says)! what should i do?

Maybe your video card doesn't support DX9

Yeah, that is quite possible, depending on what kind of vid card you have.  Try updating your vid card drivers to the latest ones.  Also it might be a smart ideato download  the full runtime redistributable version of DX9.  It is like a 30 meg plus download but it is good to have.  You can find it at www.falconfly.de/directx.htm
Just follow the chart there to pick the appropriate DirectX version for your operating system.

Lemme know if this helps.

Firstly: What graphics card are you using?

Secondly, if it's an old one, it might not support DirectX9 or even DirectX. :p

Thirdly, could it be due to insufficient RAM.

Although it says it's DirectX, if you have like a 256MB GFX that uses system RAM (ATi calls it HyperMemory), and you have 256MB system RAM, it won't be enough. Why? Because these 'HyperMemory' cards basically have only ~64MB videoRAM if it's a claimed 128/256MB. The 128MB is the max you can take from the system.

System Requirements for Crashday

RECOMMENDED
2.5GHz Processor
1GB RAM
1GB Hard Disk Space
256MB DirectX compatible Video Card
DirectX compatible Sound Card
DirectX 9.0c
32X CD-ROM Drive
