Title: NFS4 Hot Pursuit Mode and custom tracks
Post by: Zpectre on Jul 23, 2007, 1:17 PM
Sometimes in NFS4, when I replace a track with another (even with one I'm supposed to replace the original with, for example, Vertigo Ridge in the place of Dolphin Cove), I can't arrest any racers. They won't stop even if I blow up their tires with the spike strips. The strangest thing is that the AI can always arrest me and, in some addon tracks, I can still give tickets (Empire City Backstreets, for example). Does anyone know why this happens? Thanks in advance.

I have a slightly different problem. On tracks that I move around with the NFS mixer, or sometimes just random tracks, the traffic cops don't join in my pursuits or anything, or even chase the suspects. They just activate their sirens and drive around the track in the opposite direction of the pursuits, blowing right by me or even attempting to hit me head on, sometimes just for a lap backwards, sometimes for the entire race. It is REALLY irritating. This can happen with 1, 2, or even all 4 other cops on the track, and reinstalling hasn't fixed it.

It happens all the time when I put Urban Germany in the Aquatica slot, and sometimes just randomly on Atlantica, Empire City (Backstreets 4.0-Sergi) or Rocky Pass (Last Rockypass-NFSWill) even if they're in the correct slots.

Help??

I haven't run into this kinda problem, but I have my own.  Any cars I add to the game fail to be recognized by it.  I don't know why.  I have speculated that the NFS 3/4 Manager I use may not work with it right.  I have NFS MIxer btu I lack a Micrsoft program that it needs to be installed.

Have you tried running NFS4 without the HS mixer? I have quite a few add-on tracks and I can play hot-pursuit mode as a speeder and a cop flawlessly.

Good idea. I never thought the mixer might be causing it.

Well, I only encountered this problem on the HP tracks, and IIRC only in flight mode. I remember it from Lost Canyons, the speeder lost all four tires but continued "driving". But it fixed itself after some time, so I can't really tell you what the cause is :(

If it happens randomly on some tracks, that may be because the AI cops aren't capable of preforming their U-turn on narrow areas of the track, so they race out of the tunnel (in most cases) and then turn around, even though that's quite useless because they already lost the speeders then. If it happens for a whole race (I had that problem with Vertigo Ridge), try out replacing a different track. I now use VR for Route Adonf and it works perfectly.

Well that would make sense, if it wasn't for the fact that they do it in the middle of a field and on the 3 lane road outside the cathedral in EC, just to give some examples. Maybe I just change tracks around like you said.

The mixer doesn't cause it. All it does is store extra tracks in extra folders in your tracks folders, and swap them in and out of the original folders based on your selection. I see no reason why it would change things at all, other than allowing you to put tracks in any slot. Try using them in the slot they were made for.

Mostly, I believe a lot of the problems are the tracks themselves. You can't really do everything in T3ED. The AI lines get messed up if you aren't careful to avoid it. If it does happen, all you can do is press undo (sometimes).

If the track keeps a lot of the original routing, then the AI lines are more likely to stay intact.

To fix what you guys are asking about needs a lot of work 1) to develop the tools necessary to fix it and 2) to actually fix each track individually.

or, at least thats what I think.

PS. buck - read that link to the HS guide in your post about EP. It may help you out.

I know what the mixer does. But I remove it and all is mostly well. No problem anymore! Yay!

Also, The mixer is worthless anyway. I have 22 tracks in the primary Tracks folder, (And 20 in the other 2 tracks folders) and I switch they names around whenever I want with no problem. Who needs a mixer to do that? I just store the extras as say, "ZAquatica2" until I want that track, and then rename it to "Aquatica"  and the other to track to "ZAquatica1" Simple, and it keeps the tracks out of the game until I want them. Screw the mixer, it just mess my game up. I do it myself from now on.

if not, get the latest one, its in the expansion pack.

Can you get that one without having to get the EP.  I have the one that only does track, but that one sounds better.

I don't know which one I had, nor do I care. I can do everything it does by myself, and there's no way I'd get it again. As for a car manager, I have no clue if it had one, and I don't care, I just do 4 cars folders named Cars, Cars2, Cars4, and CarsC. If I want new cars in each folder, some cutting and pasting into/out of the "Alternates" folder is in order. What the point of a mixer?

well, I use it to mix and match tracklists and carlists. It's also very useful for retaining compatability for online play, as iplounge uses it directly. If I have mod cars and tracks in my game, they are automatically moved out and replaced by the std/EP cars whenever I go online.

And of course, it is faster than what you are suggesting above...

but hey, if you want to do it your way, thats fine with me ;)

I don't really care about online play, as no one has most of my cars anyway (About 120 different high poly cop cars) and be the cop races don't work out too well over the internet anyway. So that's why I could care less about it. The mixer does be no good for a cop type guy like myself. I bet it's wonderful for racers like youself, but for cops like me it just a waste of time.

You do it your way, and I'll do it mine, and we all be happy, eh? ;)
