Title: Tahoe series (Evo 4x4 based)
Post by: FranknFurter on Apr 02, 2017, 10:59 AM
I'm back .. kinda folks ... after having uploaded the Racer Tahoe Z71 I had a look again at some of equally based 'Evo 4x4' Tahoes I have like the Peel Regional (PRCT), the General Pursuit (GPCT) Sheriff Tahoe and another one I had done myself once, a 'Park Ranger' kind of traffic Pursuit Tahoe ... still considering doing an 'FBI' undercover version of it like it can be seen in crime series like 'Bones', 'Criminal Intent' and such (well aware that the FBI rather uses the bigger Suburban than the Tahoe ::)), but what do you think?

The Peel Regional (PRCT) as well as the Park Ranger Tahoe use an updated Streethawk lightbar, the General Pursuit (GPCT) Sheriff Tahoe an adopted Whelen Edge strobe lighbar with an LED/halogenic flashers scheme ...

Ok made a black FBI-like texture and tested different lighting schemes ... driver and license plate need still be done ... dunno if this worth an upload too?

Has wig-waging high beam lights, flashing white side markers and LED grille flashers but only two rear facing red and blue flashers inside, well .. undercover cars are even harder to do than marked cars ???

Rear view .. not much of a lighting visible so far .. :-\

this looks perhaps a bit better with mirror flashers instead of the side marker flashers ...

A 'Generic Pursuit' Sheriff Tahoe ('GPCT', in background) is facing some serious ESP problems .. his watch probably broke, too -LOL

1985 Ford LTD II undercover from a small foxbase series waiting for a final rework like so many others too ..

Found out that an 'FBI' Tahoe doesn't really make sense unless the speeder might be a suspected terrorist or nationwide wanted mastermind (we're not playing GTA here -LOL), so I'll rather stick to a 'normal' State or local agency undercover Tahoe .. nice pic of a Florida Sheriff's Department undercover Tahoe here:

Read something about undercover vehicles on a website today, seems I need to remove the chrome trim on the sides still since most Police cars (so also undercover cars) are mostly plain basic level cars but I think it is ok if it will keep those alloy rims? .. :(

Besides that I altered the driver making him an officer and changed the plates to something more 'neutral' .. still wondering if it actually needs a frontal one, that one from pic doesn't have one, too .. :o

Think I'll also stick with the nice grille flashers (now that it's done :-\) instead of a dashlight or interior mirror flashers? That saves some polies .. and me work, too -LOL

.. good for you that you got NFSC running on ur machine but plz. keep ontopic .. ::)

Found useable pictures of the basic steel rims and updated the undercover car to that, as a result I will have to do the other Police Tahoes (thank god it's only three .. :o) with these new steels rims now ... I promise I'll see the doctor betimes -LOL

.. wheel mesh is unchanged but I added 3D hubs (see above pic) and brake discs to it ;)

Chrome trim is also removed so the whole car is now reduced to plain 'basic' level ... :)

Another in-game pic ... Congo Train easily 'detaching' some annoying Police cars ... =D

Work continues .. Racer Tahoe is updated with brake discs for the alloy rims, General Pursuit (GPCT) Tahoe has now also steel rims, the 'Park Ranger' Tahoe has as well steel but dark rims, additionally I tried the mirror flashers from the undercover Tahoe ..

All Tahoe versions so far are still below 3k polies/500kB meshload btw ..

Looking good, I don't know why I never tried more pursuit cars over the years - such details as the lights flashing in the grill or the mirrors really looks menacing on such a big chunky car in your rearview mirrors.

thx Remko ;) Pursuit cars always were my favourite tasks ...

Latest update: Peel Regional Police Tahoe now having a clear covered Streethawk lightbar again, thx to Max (BrabusAMG) for letting me use his Streethawk interior what saves me a lot of work (and time ...) ^-^

In fact we were both using an updated Streethawk once made by Nils so a really funny coincidence .. =D

Also updating all Tahoes now with an authentic dark upper front bumper stripe ...

None of the projects I mentioned are ever forgotten .. just postponed or 'delayed' (sometimes by requests) ... :D

... added transparent coloured lenses to the rotators and altered lighting scheme to red/white/blue/white/red ... see current state on attached pics .. (menu pic w/ black Vidwall for better viewing ..)

last pic: 'ESP problem' still not solved .. any ideas? -LOL ;)

Another sweet little update ;)

... driver altered to a 'Peel Regional-alike' officer with navy dark blue uniform, 'external' cop is also exchanged and adopted to that scheme .. (1 & 2nd pic)

Wasn't quite satisfied with these old flat hubs, so I made it look more like the real one (3rd & 4th pic, 4th pic showing the prototype rims/hubs ...) .. this of course raised the polycount a bit :-\
(3rd pic: Car on the left showing old 'flat' hubs)

The new hubs raised carmesh above 500kB for the Peel Regional, but the other Police versions will stay below 500kB because of lacking lightbar/lightbar interior (the Peel Regional is by far the most detailed car of that series ..)

What I also did was deleting the frontal foglights (saving 2 dummies) and gave it rear facing traffic warning flashers instead (5th pic)

I'm confused, I thought PRP didn't start using red/blue lights til later on, I thought they was still using red/white/red back when this Tahoe was made, Still good work though.

They started in 2007 with the common b/w/r scheme as Max told me but I had a closer look at this pic (I had to decrease gamma value for that to proper notice it) and I don't if it is only me seeing a blue middle rotator there? This photo was obviously taken before 2007 when they started retrofitting/using lightbars with also blue lights :o

Some time ago I had read something about the reason why red and blue is used on lightbars .. blue light is much better and further visible in darkness/twilight or winter conditions while red light is better noticed in daylight, something in that kind .. ???

Next pic (taken later as you can tell by the Chargers in background ..) shows such a retrofitted Streethawk but the blue rotator was then placed on left side like most American agencies have that ...

Think it had to do with them also introducing then Whelen lightbars a.o. and since the standard model is blue/white/red they simply adopted this most commonly used scheme then ... :-\

But all this was at least as confusing for me as it seemingly is for you .. ::)

Some more detail work on the Peel (which means this will also have to be transferred to the other versions ::)), some normals adjusting and texture rework on the bumpers (giving it 'neutral' colours instead of the strange brown colouring) and also the headlights/positioning or marker light textures on the front hopefully look a bit better now ... ^-^

Actually Frank most U.S. police have the red light on the left..Not blue, Maybe a handful of agnecies do it that way but most it's red/blue (as it is in the state I live in too) As for that pic, Those are Impalas NOT Chargers in the background, The main car shown is a 2000-2005 Impala, The cars parked all around are 2006 and up Impalas. I don't like the 2000-2005 Impala but the 2006 and up  ^-^ =D.

Of course, red on left side -seen from behind- but I usually do the lighting sequence in frontal view so blue is on the left for me ;) .. and yes, Impalas of course but they have Chargers now, too ... probably had that other pic in mind =D
Would be better speaking of 'driver' or 'passenger side' -LOL

Nice rear view of a classic '96 Caprice, Streethawk equipped and still with the old lighting scheme ... :)

For those who wouldn't want to wait for the other versions to be finished and I uploaded the whole Tahoe package here's the Peel Tahoe pre-released (w/o sounds except Ocareng.bnk), just import the missing ones from default Camaro into car.viv as usual .. ;)

Work continues .. Park Ranger Tahoe updated with the new hubs, different driver and the reworked bumpers/headlight/marker light textures ... uh yes, and a brown interior ;)

And just if you were wondering .. yeah, the Racer Tahoe will yet get a better (3D) steering wheel ... =D

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to 'Law and Order, New York' ... =D

Although if an FBI version wasn't quite appropriate I gave the undercover Tahoe a new driver and cop, too .. should look like a typical 'detective' wearing brown trousers, a white shirt (even with armpit perspiration stains ;)), a tie and his Police badge placed at his belt and a shoulder holster gun -although I didn't map the holster belts, well ... ???

Is it detective 'Stabler' ...? 8) I now I'm watching too many crime TV shows ... ::)

'.. behind suspect, following unobtrusively ...'

Note to myself ... should I place the unevitable Donut box and a Coffee-to-go-cup on the dashboard still? Low-fat, no sugar plz. :police:

.. a Park Ranger interestedly studying a local ape family's social behavior when rudely interrupted by a racer's monkey business ;)

Illinois State Police once had rotators custom made on the Code3 MX7000 and Excaliber that was twin red/blue, I don't know how they did it but it could never be replicated to HighStakes unfortunatly as each rotator was both red/blue not one or the other, They stopped doing this when the LED lightbars came out though. I think they way they did it was they had colored parts that snapped onto the rotator shared like () and each ( was a red and a blue part. Then it all rotated. This would have been very easy with the old TwinSonics too as all you'd have to do would be put one red and one blue bulb in but back then red only was the law :(.

.. not only a problem there Paul, a simple Vector for example normally has half red, half blue coloured lenses (front/rear facing) depending on what type but this is almost unsolvable to apply an accurate lighting on that (frontal/rear different colours) ... :-\

What I always tried to solve, too is the problem of siren dummy visibility from wrong direction like those rear facing flashers also being visible from front or vice-versa frontal flashers (like mirror flashers) also being visible from behind :P

I noticed that some internal dashlight beacons I made are no longer visible from rear side or behind when transparency of the windows are done by alpha channel method (or think of the half-shielded single red beacon on the rear shelf on the Michigan Mustang, same here but vice-versa) so I tried to use this effect also on lightbars adding a half-transparent disc or whatever to it but this never worked ... :(

Btw seen your new 2101 uploaded to Police H.Q., looks great :)

Pity that Chris already uploaded the Impala, would've liked to also update it with the new detective driver and cop ;)

Speaking of updates .. gave the Racer Tahoe now a better Steering wheel from Nils' S-10 Blazer and a column, too .. not too highpoly so is also suitable for the other versions ... :)

Btw ... if you should see this (2nd pic) on the undercover Tahoe from behind, no, it's not a mistake ;) ... I made some less tinted squares for the rear flashers still on the back window for better visibility since I have read about this (hoping it is true though .. ::))

All versions are reworked and updated now so after the usual writing stuff :P I will send the package to Remko .. :)

[Edit:] Add.: Well, looking at the Park Ranger Tahoe again I tried same like on the undercover Tahoe with rear facing yellow traffic flashers (present but inactive so far ..), traded in the frontal orange positioning/marker lights for that .. what do you think of it?

.. and yes, it is Nils' BMW M5 v.2 combined Racer/Pursuit version being ticketed here ... ;)

.. you know what? 'ESP problem' is now fixed, too ... ;) ^-^ =D

Traffic version is now also updated .. poor guy has to wear up mommie's ugly self-knitted pullover on his way to regular family gathering .. ::)

but not quite as ugly as Colin Firth's 'christmas gift' pullover from 'Bridget Jones' movie though ... :P
