Title: NFSHS not give up ... please!
Post by: mikawagnerbr on Feb 01, 2012, 2:05 PM
Why do not we do (convert) cars that do not yet have the NFSHS?

Many people are still making cars or turning pro as NFSHS Copasorus101, butch, reight, Team RSR Racer Tomb, NJ (XJ220) watzelm, AJ_Lethal,

These people could make cars that are not yet in 'menu of our game, such as:

Alfa Romeo 8C, Ascari KZ1,  Astom Martim ONE, Audi TT RS, Audi RS6, Audi R8 5.2, Audi R8 GT, Bentley GT, BMW M3 E92, BMW Z4 2011,  Bugatti Veyron SS, Ferrari 458 and other new cars that could be in the game ....

Let us focus on new cars, old cars and of course we have not yet as the Nazca C2
I tried one day to convert a car GTAs ... but got so many polygons that I gave up!

NFSHS is dying... I still play NFSHS and NFS3 though I prefer NFSHP2 PS2.

NFS:HS is going upwards again, lately, some more people got more active and I see new cars for it at least every week.
Team RSR will not do any of the above mentioned cars, but we're gonna continue with classic Porsche and classic BMW addons ;)

High Stakes is not dying and will never die.  It's too special, too many people love it in a way the newer NFS games can not be loved.

I too would love to race an Alfa 8C, Ascari KZ1, and Bugatti Veyron SS on Route Adonf and such.

In music they search for a specific sound.Sometimes they find it with old instruments.

In the case of cars I often like the original versions of cars best (Ford Mustang f.e.)

Other nfs titles didn't do it for me.

I hope for more great classic cars. And I like the variety, I don't see many Lancia's, Jensen or Morgan.
What about a Citroen DS or Peugeot 504 coupe maybe a '55 Chrysler 300c.

We don't see these cars because people think it's not possible to convert cars from newer games to HS but it seems no one has ever heard of LODs before(?). I think the 3rd LOD of Forza 3 meshes already has acceptable polycount for HS.

I tried to do some stuff with Forza 3 meshes but it's a bit complicated to figure out what parts you need. I sent an email to Vlad Archer (only person who got Forza meshes into HS) ages ago asking for directions but he hasn't replied...

The problem with NFS, IMO, is that it really died with NFS5, since NFS6 (the last "classic" game) was a travesty of a game. The only ones with good quality after them were the Shift games, but those aren't in the spirit of the old games and could be considered spin-offs. Most Wanted had the potential, but turned out to be the wrong game to build a new modding era of NFS upon. Why? Because I can't use the mod of someone with the mod of someone else, since they replace the same car! How cool is that? [/sarcasm] And MW actually has less playable cars than HS (38 street cars and 4 police cars, while HS can have 49 cars).

NFSHS isn't dying... The whole NFS is dying. Actually I'd say HS is in better condition since people still make content for it. But the franchise took a serious nose dive and it'll be hard to recover, to build a new community on its grounds. And what about the old guys? Whenever you hear from them they say "I grew out of it." WTF? Grew out of what? I've been to GTL and GTR2 forums, there's 60-year-old people modding those games! "Growing out", "losing interest" is really a lame excuse.

hmm..  a bit angry post Zpectre.I think you can grow out of a game, that's not a lame excuse.People need to ''refresh'' every once in a while. But I still see efforts being made for nfs4.

I'm gratefull that people like Butch (nfsbolide) came back.I don't know the age of all those modders.

Hahaha sorry for the angry note, didn't really intend to do that... But I'm a bit nostalgic... I remember the time when NFSCars' Editing Projects section was filled with new cars everyday and awaiting their release anxiously... It was fun. Nowadays the section is deserted, partly because, in a stupid move, they decided to separate converted cars as if discriminating them. No other modding site does that... Instead, sites like The Borg (another decadent site BTW) use tags in the thread title to mark scratch-made content and conversions, which is much fairer...

In the current state of things we'd really need some sort of revolution. Also the fact EA now has a forum of their own has lowered traffic to NFS fan sites.

I won't let it die, either. And I should be much more active by the end of the month.

Need for Speed High Stakes has been on my PC(s) almost continuously since January 2000, the longest time that it was absent was somewhere in 2008, after a re-install. My computer just feels naked without it.

I have my HS copy ever since NFS 4 was released, so May '99 or something, the longest time I've been absent was when my Windows ME machine (that my dad cared for way back then) refused to let it work.. that was about a year.
But yeah, I totally agree with you, NFS 4 is an essential part of a system setup to me ;)

I was not interested in computers in my schooldays.Shortly after I got my first computer (at 17 or so) I got a copy of nfs3 (and lost it shortly after) and that made a change.

I bought nfs4 and was totally happy.

Actually I wanted every game with cars involved.I had fun with nfs5 and 6 / GTlegends and Mafia (city of lost heaven).Tried many demo's of racinggames but.......no,

I had a lot of problems with NFS HS and Win 7 x64. Then i owned a second PC (MSI G41M-P25, Pentium E5700 dual core, 4 GB RAM, Radeon HD 5450 (low Profile), Win XP Pro sp3) for retrogaming. I still play NFS HS every day.

I still play, actually.  Still working on a newer version of my track called "The Oval".  Mr. WiLL helped me originally with the textures on my Empire City:  High Speed track.  I started working on it a few months ago and had to wipe my PC, and start fresh.  Now I'm about to get it started again.

Side note - I did an update on my site recently and it killed my downloads.  Lost all of the index files and everything.  Today and tomorrow I'm working on a new download manager and re-indexing all of the cars and tracks.  Should take me a while, but I'll get it done.

Got NFS4 to work on my XP machine again - just started playing.  Racing on my "The Oval V3 Beta 1" track.  Going to release the final V3 in a few days.  Took a few days to get it working, but now I'm good to go.

Ask Mr. WiLL - he very well may have that track.  What's the exact track name?

I don't know if this conversion was ever done (never saw it in the archives of Giles Bett' site anyway), but do you have the nfs3 versions of G-B's City tracks, at least?
I remember you brought them up 2 years ago in http://nfsaddons.com/forums/index.php?topic=1459.0
Not too long ago I browsed the archived version of NFSGB, and found out several of the NFS3-related links still worked:
http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://nfsgb.nd4spdworld.com/zip/nfs3/* (copy & paste the link in a new browser window, as the board can't make this link work..)
This includes City, City2 and City2se.

Just thought I'd mention it in case you're still interested.

I don't have the files anymore Remko.  I've switched PC's twice since I had them and they are gone now.  I wish I saved them, and I wish I could have loaded his Hockenheim track, but you had to email him to get it from him, but he never answered.

checked that link, nothing came up.

try this, I just managed to download it fine (may take a few seconds for the download to pop up).
We still won't have an NFS HS version but at least we've got the base nfs3 file here.

I have yet to download it, but I have the link queued up in Getright to download later on.  But yes, at least now that we know it exists, it can be converted.  I wish he had completed version 3, cause with each revision, he really made it nicer.

Also, if anyone has his Hockenheim track, that would be awesome.  That one may be hard to find.  He only gave it out to people who asked via email, but by the time I emailed him, he wasn't active anymore.

My Sebring track (shape) is complete - just needs the texture work to be done.  Needs a lot of that.  Shape is in place though...

I know this thread's quite old but, I agree with its purpose despite being away for HS for a couple years now.
In an ideal world, we could get EA to make the game engine open source. There's a fair argument for them to do so; "id Software" did it with the original DOOM after they stopped making profit from its sales, and I would consider it now to be one of the most widely ported video games of all time. (I can play it on my first-generation iPod Nano, my TI nSpire, my iPhone, and the crappiest computers with the obscurest operating systems known to mankind.)

A significant portion of this desire comes from my recent involvement with Linux-based operating systems, it's become quite difficult for me to tolerate Windows since I began to understand open-source OSes.

And back when I was still active in the High Stakes community, I would have been more likely to actually ask EA for such a thing. It's been a while now though, and I realize such a request would be a futile waste of time, even if I could reach significant person from EA.

(Hell it's been a while, isn't the brand of NFS owned by some other company now? If I had any remote influence, I wish I could just hop over to the remains of EA Canada and get them to release the source for NFS1-5. There would be two significant issues with this: (1) no one would take it seriously, EA's not at all known for open source-ing anything, and if they actually had anything related to HS in their server archives, I would be genuinely (albeit pleasantly) surprised; and (2) HS was built for DirectX 6 on Win9x, and the program itself and physics engine written in god knows what, Visual C++ 1995?)

Ah well, sorry, semi-annual rant. See you all next time I need to procrastinate before exams.

NFS4 never give up  ;), btw i try to find contact to some of guys who creat orginal NFS4 (main programers), but only find contact with Jim Tibbitts he was a graphic.

I made many tracks to NFS4, here is http://www.nfscars.net/forum/showthread.php?t=31850&page=18
my last project is New York huge track, i love big cities. But If this engine can be open source we can add many modern effects to game. EA is not the same EA, what in 90's :(.

My tracks are better and better, http://www.nfscars.net/file/view/highstakes/17625.aspx
but i have still problem with tracks shapes.

Some screens from my tracks: http://www.nfscars.net/showroom/list.aspx?user=124763&sort=latest&order=desc&page=1

Cheers guys and Force be with you :)
