Title: This looks shopped
Post by: Remko on Aug 02, 2010, 1:51 PM
(I know I also posted this at NFSCars, but I just thought it was too funny)

A few weeks ago, EA overhauled its Needforspeed.com site... and for the first time (as far as I know) they actually presented an overview of the entire NFS bloodline all the way back to TNFS from 1994, each one of the classics finally having its own page and description, pictures and all.
Which is nice. I think.  :)

But then I saw the image of the supposed box art for Need For Speed High Stakes, and something looks off about it, see if you can spot it?

(seriously, trying to re-write history is one thing - I'm guessing because of licensing BS - but can't you at least try to insult everyone's intelligence a little less by picking a car that's actually IN the game...? :squint: )

Too bad the Special Editions are not mentioned separately - I wonder how they would have modified the cover of NFS2SE with its 355 F1?

WHO put a freakin' Murcie on the front of High Stakes  This is a disgrace. Now everyone is going to buy NFS4 see there is no Murcie and sue EA. Which means they'll have to hold HP3 untill there done gettin' people to back off.

Easy man, Ferrari didnt let EA use their cars anymore. And EA doesnt sell the game anymore, so sueing will be the most idiotic thing ever.

BTW, it was so hard to put a Diablo on it? :?

Well, you see, that would make sense. Which is exactly the reason why EA didn't do it. ;)

So Ferrari wants to see its cars used on closed circuits only? That's even more lame than prohibiting police chases involving speeding Ferraris like in HP and HS (and HP2?)...

Thats why we were not able to drive Ferraris in hot pursuit mode in High Stakes.

Why didnt they put some car that already existed in the game say Firebird or F1 GTR?

They still have some imperfections. The TNFS car list should be proper. Whats more, they havent mentioned Last Resort(Acapulco) as track in NFS2.

Last Resort was part of the Special Edition of NFS 2, not the non-SE.

Then why did they write Ferrari 355 F1, Mustang & Nazca C2? I know whey have mentioned (Special Edition) in front of them. They could have also done that for Last Resort.

Because it's EA Games nowadays, not good ol' Electronic Arts anymore...

I didnt get what you meant. What EA Games & Electronic Arts got to do with it? At that time, it was Electronic Arts.

Electronic Arts created the game, but now EA Games did this overview. And it's the latter which "blessed" us with the bad NFS titles of the last few years so it's no surprise they're too dumb to get the facts of the real classics right. They even faked the cover of High Stakes!

Yeah. Thats correct. But they dont realise that the true roots of NFS lie there.

That's the problem. They could have at least released a ten-years-of-NFS pack like they did with Command & Conquer. Full XP & Vista compatibility for the real NFS games, perhaps even widescreen support...

Yeah. I hope that should have happened with more new cars.

I wish NFSA could "buy" NFS4 from EA Games, or whoever "owns" it now. Then we could re-create it ;) with new cars and XP support as NJ said

but that's rather unrealistic we all know :(
I really wanted to create a website just like EA's old NFS site used to be covering NFS 1 through 5 offering EA's cars, patches, and some forums. ClassicNFS.com maybe? I might have to set up one of my Dells as a server.

If you're serious... we should chat. I've got plenty of room on this server :)

So am I currently seeing the owner of future NFS? :p

@ Mike: If I could be serious about buying rights to NFS4, I would, but I don't think EA would really hand over their old game... it seems kind of out of the question, but something I've always enjoyed wishing about ;)

We could definitely bring back HS better if we owned the game and hopefully the tools used to create it - except how on earth would EA dig up whatever they used to make HS with? That doesn't seem like them to me - but imagine, being able to add tracks to the game. Wow, that would be nice :)

Heck, it'd be  nice to be able to bring the graphics engine a little more into the present, say maybe needing a 32 or 64mb vid card, instead of what, 16mb?

@ FM: I'm pretty sure Mike was talking about a website covering the older NFS titles (hint ClassicNFS . com).
