Title: Strange helicopter light
Post by: Code 4 on Mar 30, 2010, 6:58 AM
Hi everyone,
In NFS HS when you races in Hot Pursuit in a race at night, the helicopter from the police will use a light.
On the ground there must be a good looking shining but in my NFS HS it looks really strange.

Could somebody tell me how I can fix this problem?

You use a modified SFX.FSH file which replaces the original spotlight with the one you see there. You can use FSH tool to unpack the SFX file and replace the spotlight texture with the original one EA created ;)

Interesting comment, XJ220, I never would have guessed it was the SFX.FSH file...

In my experience, that light problem is due to the way you've set your lights under the Graphics settings. There should be two options (Vertex and Projected), I can't remember which one you're supposed to use but try flipping that setting if what XJ220 already said doesn't help.

Hope you fix this I'm curious to see the outcome :)

The setting you mention just influences how your headlights illuminate the track. Since Code 4 uses the same option like me, that can't be the problem ;) Interesting to see the original names of these options, though - the German version calls them high/low quality rather than projected/vertex.

Which one is more realistic? Projected or vertex. I think projected looks more realistic.
I've fixed the helicopter shine. It looks better now

I'm pretty sure Vertex is most realistic, but it's really whatever you think looks best (you can adjust it in-game from the pause menu) :)

I think vertex is the one called "low quality" in the German version - it's a bit laggy - I prefer projected ;)

@ WiLL: You mean how to change from Vertex and Projected headlight rendering? During NFS4, pause the game, select "Graphics...", and click on the "Headlights" entry and it will alternate from Vertex to Projected or vice versa. :)

@ Will, I just did what XJ220 said. Open the SFX.fsh in FSHTool and then I replaced the textures from the old helicopter shine from the old NFS HS. And now it's fixed.

Good to know. Sorry XJ220, I thought vertex/projected would help too but I guess not.

Thanks guys :) I'll remember this if I have the same problem
