Title: FIFA World Cup 2006 - Who will you go for?
Post by: RevveR on Jun 17, 2006, 2:59 AM
The FIFA World Cup 2006 is coming up very soon :D ! Which country will you go for to win the trophy?

I'd go personally for Germany right now. As its happening in their own country, it would be a shame if they lost :( , and I'm pretty sure they'll try their best themselves. I'm a BMW fan, so that's mainly why I go for Germans :) .

Netherlands.

Watching the US/Italy game right now. But my best friend of about 15 years is dutch, so I've always gone for them :)

What is Dubai like? I've wanted to go there for a while :)

Dubai is sort of like a downtown at the coast - huge and beautiful buildings, beautiful beaches, many cool cars ;) , but very hot, as its a desert, thats why every building there is central ACied, there are many other people besides Arabs, Americans, Europeans, Far-Eastern, Sub-Continental and other Arab Countries' people not only live there for vacations, but also the majority of them live and work there :) . Its got many malls and shopping centres, but its amusement parks are the star attractions. One of them being set up is to be called DubaiLand and it will be like I heard 5 miles big or something.

Awesome. I figured it would be pretty hot there. My dad's company actually worked on that really big hotel, the "7-star" one, can't remember the name of it though. I definitely hope to come out there someday, and maybe take some rides at DubaiLand :)

Yeah, I'd REALLY love to go to Dubai, but mainly for the cars. Singapore is a tropical country so the heat won't affect me so much. I actually have an ex-classmate who's dad got posted to Dubai for work...

Anyway, as for the World Cup, I'd LIKE England to win, but I'm EXPECTING either Germany of Brazil to take the cup

Germany (always liked them until Völler took over as new coach). Klinsmann doesn't do a good job with the team, but I support them regardless.

Czech Republic (and yes, this means I want Italy to be disqualified). The loss against Ghana was early bad luck. It's hard to start a game with a score disadvantage already. Then Ujfalusi got a red card (forgivable, he had to make that foul) and the team's defense got crippled.

I'm Brazilian but I grew tired of always supporting Brazil... They rarely lose, so it becomes boring to watch, especially since Brazilian individual talent doesn't shine very often in the national team.

Well, it looks like Italy beat France. Well, thats understandable, as most of France's players aren't professionals, they were no match fro the experts in Italy.

Watching that match was damn fun, mostly because I went to my friend's house to watch it. The match started at 2am here, so 4 of us spent the night at his house, playing Xbox360 till the match started, and then going to school at 1pm. School's supposed to start at 7.30am, but since the principal knew none of us could concentrate in class when we watched the match, he shifted school hours to the afternoon for that day!

I am SO glad Italy won... I had actually received a hit on the back of my head from one of my friends when I cheered when Italy scored that 19min goal. But really Zidane must be a real retard to do that unprovoked headbutt...

BTW, did you guys think the ref was biased against the Frenchies?

I was as shocked as anyone seeing Zidane headbutt Materazzi - for a moment I was afraid the referee would let it pass, as he apparently didn't see it. But he was corrected by one of his assistant refs, after wich a red card was the only option.

Unprovoked, I dunno. One day later, everybody is speculating what prompted Zidane to make that move, the general assumption is that Materazzi (who is not exactly a 'boy scout' himself) said something really insulting and personal that made 'Zizou' snap. Rumours - and they really are just rumours, always quick to start after such incidents - are that it could be something about his family or his background (Zidane's parents are Algerian).
Nasty as that may be, you should know better than to simply slug someone and get yourself banned when you're supposed to be leading your national team to the World Championship, with half of the worlds population watching, no less. (The FIFA will probably not be too excited by this display of 'sportsmanship')

Sad way to end your career, and a sad thing that this will probably what people will remember this cupfinal for.

It was said that Materazzi called Zidane a 'dirty terrorist', probably because he's a Muslim.
