Title: After Editing in Photoshop...
Post by: DigitalDark on Oct 04, 2006, 6:55 AM
Hello Everyone!
I want to make a Vinil of my own,
The thing is, after i edit it in Photoshop, and import it, i receive the message:
"Texture has a format Error"
:((
I see there are lots of Pro's working on it. But i really Wanted one of my own.
Is there any help file, on how to do it? --- Or can anyone help me geting started?
In worst case i want to put one thing on My cars, if someone can, it would be also great.
Thanx in advance.

For those who know how to do it, and have seen this post... THANKS for NOTHING!!!
Well i found out the debug thing, and now i believe i know where to put the pictures.
But i still get kicked out of the game after trying to view my vynil on the car.
Also, the colours of a Loaded Vynil, are very different from those i use in Photoshop...
Anyways, i respect if you "pros" dont want to tell how that S*** is done, but can anyone at least do one vynil for me or tell me where i can get some PDF, or other document on how to do that?

Eeeasy now, dude...
To be honest I don't think that there are more than a handful of people actually doing any texture editing for MW, and I don't think they visit here on a daily basis either.

I'm afraid I cannot answer this myself since I have no idea, but maybe the editing board on NFSUnlimited can be of a little more help here: http://forum.nfsunlimited.net/viewforum.php?f=2

Hey DD, sorry but I don't enter these forums recently...
It's a fixed color vinyl?
Then try to swap red and blue colors with Image > Adjust > Channel Mixer (in red R:0, G:0, B:255 and blue R:255, G:0, B:0) and change the Image > Mode > Indexed Color.
If it's a 1(2) custom color(s) then NO swap the R/G colors, only change the mode to Indexed Color.
If this don't work, send me a message and I try to help you or make a vinyl for you...

Yea man, we will/can help, just haven't been in  here for a while.  DaBeast is a vinyl champion.  And, I know some of the basics.
Maybe if you can pm one of us with a link to the file you are trying to use, that would help alot to find what the issue might be.
Also, the author of MWTex.exe, Loque has a brief tutorial on how to make and use vinyls.  You might have to google for it is all.

I apologize for what i said before, i was getting freaky because no one answered.
Im going to check the tutorial, and then see if i can do it on my own.
I love to do things like these
(actually never worked with textures before, i used only to make Mobile phones themes.. and that was a little start for doing everything in this kind of stuff)
A huge thanx for repplying.

This is a summarized tut. If you need a more detailed one pm to me or Tuokool as he said...

1. Open MWTex (with NFS:MW closed)
2. Open the vinyls.bin file for the car you would edit
3. Select a vinyl that seems like your projected one (#of colors and/or vinyl distribution)
4. Right click to export it
5. Open the resulting DDS with Photoshop (or your photo editor) with the DDS plugins
6. Convert it to RGB
7. Edit
8. If you work with layers, merge them
9. If it's a unique vinyl, swap the red and blue colors: Image > Adjustments > Channel Mixer > Choose Red and set to 0,0,255 and then choose Blue and set to 255,0,0
10. Convert it to Index
11. Save as DDS in Palette ARGB 256 colors + Alpha (P8 )
12. Import it to MWTex (as before: select, right click, import)
13. Close MWTex
14. Run NFSMW, choose your edited vinyl and enjoy it!

I can't open the .dds-file.
I get up the message "Could not open (address) because of a problem with the file-format module interface.
What is wrong?
