Off-Topic Discussion / The Driver Syndicate - Fan project
« on: Jan 19, 2020, 7:38 AM »
Just a little heads up for an awesome fan project - the development already is quite advanced.
Not related to the Need For Speed franchise, but still a milestone in the history of racing games: Driver
Released in 1999 by GT Interactive for the Play Station and later ported to PC.
Now a HD Remake of the first Driver game is available. Author of the project is SOAP.
I'm really impressed by this project. The development started around 2013 and is still going. The current build is pretty advanced and offers a complete menu and different missions. It's playable. And it feels great. The physics, the sound and the city - all caried over to a modern game engine.
It's completely free. The download is around 75 MB.
Absolute must-download.
The download link can be found at drivermadness.net in the PROJECT THREAD.
edit: @Mike/Remko: video embedding still doesnt work it seems

General NFS / Old Need for Speed Websites - Nostalgia & History
« on: Jul 29, 2018, 9:31 AM »
Here you find links of sites no longer available at the web, as well as broken sites with low relevance.
Still these websites and the people behind them will be remembered.
The NFS franchise is going til today - these classic games and their community started it all.
Browse gaming history here, find interesting content and cherish the memories!
Listed sites hosted content for at least one NFS game from the classic era (NFS1-NFS6). Links to webarchive services (like archive.org or internetmuseum.se) are provided, if available. Sites are listed alphabetically according to URL (official EA sites listed first).
Feel free to give feedback and contribute!
Archive services occasionally might have files backuped for the listed sites. So if you happen to find something interesting or rare, don't hesitate to reply and share info here.
But note, if you searching file downloads take a look at the thread Online-Resources of classic NFS titles.
* significant amount of files have been captured for this website by an internet archive service!

Editing Projects / Presenting: The Slicer
« on: Dec 16, 2017, 5:01 AM »
Well, i'm not only a fan of Mad Max and the Dukeboys, but also the original Gone in 60 Second movie from 1974. It was an independent production (today you would probably call it "indie") with a high trash factor, but it has a 30 min realtime chase scene with many handmade stunts and actual accidents!
In 1989 a sequel was planned "Gone in 60 Seconds:2" and filming started. Tragically director Halicki (who also was the main character in his movies) died during a stunt.
Since then some unfinished film material has been released, showing the star of the second part: The Slicer.
https://www.youtube.com/v/dReW8_Ugd_M&t=4s
(This car also inspired the Flip/Ramp car from the Fast and the Furious 6)
Now i thought that would be a great first "from scratch" project for me. For lack of blueprints or any reliable data respectively, it was a little difficult to recreate the shape. So its not entirely accurate, probably
Its outright a fun car. Super fast, heavy with perfect handling. In memory of the "freight train" cheat from Driver and the Carmageddon series...
https://www.youtube.com/v/wUK-DxeleYc
Also thought about creating a NFS3 version. Download is not available yet.

General NFS / Looking for NFS:HS & NFS:HP cars from www.nd4spd.de
« on: Nov 26, 2017, 3:49 PM »
Im looking for some cars from the old nd4spd.de website. The site went offline around 2002. Maybe someone has a backup stored or even knows a online-source for a file? It is not necessary to provide original zip files!
Mainly these 4 cars bound my attention:
Many thanks in advance. Greetings
Mainly these 4 cars bound my attention:
Stretch Limo (with pool) | made by Zorro | (webarchive-link) | found a conversion to ReVolt, but it has no interior (LINK)
BMW 2002 Racing | made by unknown author | (webarchive-link)
Polizei Audi A4 | made by unknown author | (webarchive-link)
1970 Camaro for NFS3 | made by Chris Bernard | (webarchive-link) |
Another interesting thing is the "Track Addon" at the track section of High Stakes (webarchive-link). The description says "3 new tracks, that will not replace any other tracks". Someone remembers if this was worth downloading? I assume its just a kind of "click-bait" title, unfortunately the comments have not been archived |
Many thanks in advance. Greetings

General NFS / www.dippold.org is Online again!
« on: Sep 10, 2017, 12:14 PM »
Good news for NFS3 fans. You now got the chance to grab some gems, potentially...
Seems all files at Markus Dippold's homepage are currently available for download again.
www.dippold.org
It's not clear if this will stay that way in the long-term or if it is temporary only.
Also not sure how long the downloads are available already, i recently discovered they are working.

Editing Projects / Yeehaw! - A Dukes of Hazzard project
« on: Mar 15, 2017, 4:45 AM »
Im tinkering on another movie car and wanted to show off some pics.
It's the famous '69 Charger "General Lee" from the "Dukes of Hazzard".
Base-car is the great NFS-Carbon conversion from Reggaeton RS.
Guess most of us got along with Addict's version so far, which is a great car, but it was created in 1999 (!).
In the meantime there was a lot of development in the scene, so im wondering no one considered a repolished version of this classic
Exterior body work and appearance are almost done. Still working on the wheels though (one work-in-progress-wheel can be seen). Used Blender and the method from this tutorial to create basic wheel shape. Thanks due Freak-DS, who (very very patiently) explained some basic Z-Modeler stuff to me in the past, im getting more comfortable with Z-Modeler and did most detail work with it (e.g. texture-mapping, Push-Bar and the crossed flags at rear window).
The car's interior still misses lot of detailing. I plan to add a rollcage, 2 drivers, animated steering wheel and a new antenna.

General NFS / Need For Speed 4 Modern Patch - Donations?
« on: May 31, 2016, 3:12 AM »Evgeny "Veg" Vrublevsky is a programmer from Belarus, and if you are fan of classic Need For Speed titles, like Need For Speed 3 and 4, it is about time you get to know him
He is the author of the NFS3 modern patch which makes the game Portable, supports modern OS and adds numerous of crucial improvements to the game.
LINK
His projects are free, and completely non-commercial.
Due to the similarities of the games, he is now about to port these features to Need For Speed 4.
Veg already released a NFS4 Modern Patch Beta, which adds awesome features like Portability and removes the high poly limit ("Render_GetTm()raM out of raN" error).
LINK
Unfortunately he does not see a way to realise this project the way he used to before.
The resons are explained on this page
LINK
So here is the chance for the community to aid Veg. With his previous projects he proved that he has the skills to realise his promise.
What are you willing to donate for a modernized Need For Speed High Stakes?

Site Suggestions/Feedback / Embedding videos from YouTube
« on: Feb 25, 2016, 4:47 AM »
Hey guys,
i wondered why its not possible to embed youtube videos in the forums (or is there a way i dont know of?).
I understand HTML code is disabled for security reasons, but there are always ways to make stuff, like embedded videos, work via BBcode.
Since the embed-code is always the same, you could realize some "youtube" button, where users only have to enter the unique video code (which can be found in youtube-links after "..watch?v=") ...for example:
[youtube]video-code[/youtube]
Thats really something i already missed here, when it would have been much easier showing something instead of long explainings.
Embedded videos do not automatically start playing - so its not really a bandwith problem either; especially by today's standards.
Greetings

General NFS / The "Monolithic Studios" / "Hollywood" movie thread
« on: Oct 27, 2015, 5:24 AM »
Hello!
I think all of you know the track Monolithic Studios from NFS2 (which has been converted for High Stakes too)
Ever wondered which movie references the creators had in mind?
The track is divided into "stages" marked by a blue sign with a number...
Here you have my assumptions for each of these stages.
Now your turn... what ya thinking?

The track is divided into "stages" marked by a blue sign with a number...
Here you have my assumptions for each of these stages.
Track section | Game pic | Film pic | Title | Info |
Stage #01 | Unknown | A dusty western town. Maybe a general homage to western movies?
Stage #02 | Star Wars | This stage looks like the "trench" of the death star from Episode IV. Might be a Homage to the original trilogy (Episodes IV - VI)
Stage #03 | Unknown | Sci-Fi, A Holographic map of some sort... who knows?
Stage #04 | Star Trek | Definitly Sci-Fi, maybe a reference to Star Trek (looking like a "warp core"...)?
Stage #05 | Unknown | Sci-Fi, those towers are pretty distinctive... but i have no idea
Stage #06 | The Fith Element | A huge futuristic city, flying cars... The Fifth Element. Game and movie were released in the same year.
Stage #07 | Unknown | An oil rig with sea mines around it? Dunno this flick.
Stage #08a | Jurassic Park | The trade mark of this film is blocking your way, the T-Rex. Must be Jurassic Park. Based on the 1990 novel of the same name, filming took place in California and Hawaii between August and November 1992, post-production rolled until May 1993
Stage #08b | Jaws | The famous scene from Jaws 1. The shark wolfing down the boat ^^
Stage #09 | The X-Files: Fight the Future | Well, if i think of UFO's i think of Roswell and the X-Files. Script was written at the end of 1996, filming began in 1997 following the end of the show's fourth season.
Stage #10 | Unknown | Not sure on this one. Maybe the final scene of Terminator 2 (1991) when they hide in the steel mill? |
Now your turn... what ya thinking?

Editing Projects / Road Warrior Truck
« on: Apr 20, 2015, 8:39 AM »
Finally,
after 30 years the post-apocalyptic Mad Max series is revived - by none other than Director George Miller himself.
Mad Max 4 'Fury Road' starts in cinemas on May 14th.
As little 'appetizer' you can download the famous Mack rig from the 2nd Mad Max movie for Need For Speed High Stakes soon...
The truck is not meant to be an 1:1 replica of the original - I tried to include much details as possible, though
Since I'm not an experienced modeler I did not build this from scratch.
Everything is based on BeniC's 'Road Train' (Western Star truck). I have permission to modify his truck - so thanks again BeniC.
The Road Warrior Truck features damage, custom sound, custom performance and a modified cockpit view to fit its new appearence. Due to the custom sound files it will be neccessary to operate the game in stereo mode or delete all bnk-files from the viv-file.
The archive will also include vidwalls, a full showcase with pictures and data of the actual Mack used in the movie.
Here is a little film clip to get you in the mood
Mad Max II - Breaking the siege
... and some ingame pics
