General NFS / Re: NFSHS not give up ... please!
« on: Jan 15, 2013, 5:20 PM »
I know this thread's quite old but, I agree with its purpose despite being away for HS for a couple years now.
In an ideal world, we could get EA to make the game engine open source. There's a fair argument for them to do so; "id Software" did it with the original DOOM after they stopped making profit from its sales, and I would consider it now to be one of the most widely ported video games of all time. (I can play it on my first-generation iPod Nano, my TI nSpire, my iPhone, and the crappiest computers with the obscurest operating systems known to mankind.)

A significant portion of this desire comes from my recent involvement with Linux-based operating systems, it's become quite difficult for me to tolerate Windows since I began to understand open-source OSes.

And back when I was still active in the High Stakes community, I would have been more likely to actually ask EA for such a thing. It's been a while now though, and I realize such a request would be a futile waste of time, even if I could reach significant person from EA.

(Hell it's been a while, isn't the brand of NFS owned by some other company now? If I had any remote influence, I wish I could just hop over to the remains of EA Canada and get them to release the source for NFS1-5. There would be two significant issues with this: (1) no one would take it seriously, EA's not at all known for open source-ing anything, and if they actually had anything related to HS in their server archives, I would be genuinely (albeit pleasantly) surprised; and (2) HS was built for DirectX 6 on Win9x, and the program itself and physics engine written in god knows what, Visual C++ 1995?)

Ah well, sorry, semi-annual rant. See you all next time I need to procrastinate before exams.

Absolutely agree with AJ_Lethal. Incredible modeling as well, this car radiates perfection.

Unfortunately, the main "search" box function is not working for me. I will post back when I try on my other PCs, but for the moment I'm using this one:

Ubuntu Desktop x86_64
Opera 11.51 (x64)

Anyone else have this problem?
When I search, I'm returned to the main "news" page :/

Some screens :) Not bad huh?:bigthumb:

LOL! What a Brilliant selection of cars you've got there! (All of the cars pictured were from my old and glitchy HS mod, FM HS Mod, probably v3.3 or something)

will, just in case you never got it sorted out... you can view all file extension associations and change the associated programs/icons in Windows Explorer. Just select 'Options...' from the 'Tools' menu in Explorer, and go to the 'File Types' tab. In case you were still wondering. ;)

Editing Projects / Re: The best of modern NFS: an NFSHS idea
« on: Jun 16, 2011, 9:11 AM »
this is a great idea... myself I spent a year and a half making something remotely like this for High Stakes. But I replaced the standard cars with newer models, of the same cars. Maybe I'll try it again... maybe..

this list looks pretty good. Do you plan on making the cars low- to mid-poly, so that they can be raced in Career Mode and Full Grid single races?

General NFS / Re: Does anyone have NFS1-NFS2SE track for NFS3.
« on: Jun 07, 2011, 11:19 AM »
I have to admit - I'm not sure why one would play NFS III instead of 4... unless they've got a truly ancient PC. Anyway, I'll try to look a bit more for this. I hope you succeed too ;)

That is strange though that you can't convert NFS4 tracks to NFS III.

General NFS / Re: HS and windows 7
« on: Jun 07, 2011, 11:12 AM »
I honestly don't think XP mode is your best bet -- it doesn't support DirectX or OpenGL. I think the emulated GPU is like an 8mb 2D graphics accelerator.

Assuming you want to keep Win7, you could just dual-boot with XP. I personally prefer XP, and though I'm running 32-bit on my 64 bit quad core, it works fine for HS.

It should work on Windows 7 though with the Expansion Pack. First of all, make sure when you install it that you check off the multicore patch (I needed it for my quad-core, chances are you will), the glide wrapper, win7 support, and HS Starter. When you start the game the first time, try software renderer. It should almost definitely work with software rendering. If it doesn't let me know...

If the game works okay with software rendering (probably really slow though), try either DirectX (full hardware acceleration) or Glide Wrapper. It might turn out that HS doesn't work well with your GPU, if that is the case, Glide Wrapper is quite good.

General NFS / Re: Need For Speed Bugs
« on: Jun 07, 2011, 10:58 AM »
lol. I remember in NFS5, there was a way to drive outside of the track in Test Mode or something. I think you had to do a test drive on Côte d'Azur, and then go backwards off the back of the map. Then you can go through the back of a cliff, and fall off onto the road. :P

(also, I think you could go as fast as you wanted in your flying car) :)

Paul Spain: Yeah that would be my suggestion as well, to reinstall Visual Basic 6 runtime. If you wound up doing a repair install of Microsoft Windows, as this is what I understood, you might need to update some things in the system (e.g.: .NET Framework tends to get downgraded halfway to 1.1, on XP)...

I got this error while trying to run the Expansion Pack installer from WINE under Linux, turns out after installing VB6 in WINE I was good to go. Well, never actually worked that well, but at least it installed.

General NFS / Does anyone have NFS1-NFS2SE track for NFS3.

Another NFSII track editor:
http://www.totalnfs.net/nfs2/tools/TRACKEDITOR.ZIP

but still not conversion :(

Maybe we should ask IPLounge forums, on iplounge.net, how they converted the NFSII SE tracks into NFS4 format. Or how to convert NFS4 tracks into NFS3 format - TRACK4TO3, conceptually, should be easy. Problmed is there are probably some track-added features in NFS4 and AI lines, etc, that could mess up a straight-out drag-and-drop from NFS4 to NFS3. Even so, I'm sure that's much more possible.

I guess you could just download the NFS HS Expansion Pack, install it, extract the tracks, and convert them into NFS3 (for your own personal use). I'm sure other people in the NFS community who still play NFS3 would like to have them too, but we'd have to gather permission from the authors of the HS Expansion Pack, or the original converters.

Yes! I finally found the site. This is the first one that came to mind when I saw this thread, though I'm not sure it will be as much help as you might be looking for. Okay, Dennis Auroux created these authoring/converting tools, as far as I know. And his new NFS site is here, and states "Most of these tools are now obsolete, with two exceptions." Which is too bad, because I'd like to see his "obsolete" tools in case he has them. Even so, on the new site he has T3ED and FSHtool. I'm guessing you are after the obsolete stuff. So:

Here's his old NFS site, which is apparently still online. Here, he also hosts the T3ED and FSHtool but there is also a lot more including track editors for NFS1 / converters Track1to2 / etc.

So now you can find NFS1 and NFS2SE (even edited versions of) tracks. But for NFS2. So, now you need, essentially, a "TRACK2TO3" program. And I have NO clue where that is. But I'll look, and post back

General NFS / HP3 crash
« on: Dec 22, 2010, 5:53 AM »
Oh... when I saw the title, I thought you literally meant Hot Pursuit III - as in, from 1998. LOL.

Sorry, I'm afraid I can't help with HP2010. If you've got a problem with HP3, or rather 3HP, let me know. Though I'll admit I don't recall ever getting 3HP to work even under XP. Oh, sorry, back on topic then. I'll, leave.
