General NFS / Re: My nfs4 car mods archive
« on: Feb 05, 2024, 7:31 PM »
Would it be possible to make a MEGA drive, with folder names like [AUTHOR] MAKE_MODEL_TRIM_YEAR (.zip file name).

I could fill my MEGA drive with NFS4 cars from your archive.

Or if you need space to upload more NFS4 cars, I can upload them on mine. I also have Mediafire, but that is mainly used for NFS MW hidden / lost mods.

Currently I have used:

- 38MB out of 20GB in MEGA;

- 2,22 GB out of 10GB in Mediafire.

P.S. I could upload the leftover files from MEGA to Mediafire, just so it's completely empty.
I can't rename all the files. Also the filenames for me are very important because then i know what i already have and what can get thrown away. If i rename every single archive, i also wouldn't know anymore where i got them from in specific cases. Taking the 38MB to MediaFire so that MEGA is completely empty is a good idea. I don't know what to do with this archive in the mere future. It is mainly intended as a backup and spreading machine for  files not to get lost. I don't know if it's possible to download all files at once, but if i were you, i would do that. If a file has no Readme or any text file in which there is info about the car or author it's senseless to search for it anyway. Or to rename the whole file. This filename system was very important for me in the past to be absolutely súre that there was not a single car missing from any website i've downloaded

I tried to download the whole thing about a year ago, not too long after you shared your archive with us. I think it was possible back then to just 'download' the whole folder at once, but recently I couldn't find anywhere on the Mega page where that option was (it wasn't the 'download as zip' feauture). It may have been changed since last year. Somehow only 9900 of the 11k files ended up on my harddrive, not sure why.

I decided to re-download the whole archive again yesterday toe make sure I had absolutely everything, this time using an app called Megadownloader. http://megadownloaderapp.blogspot.com/  (Edit: The Download page there does not work, but the latest version -1.8- is also available on Filehippo, Softpedia and similar hosting sites)
That did the trick pretty well, faster than last year, too (about 4 hours, where last year I had to leave my pc running overnight) So I have a full backup of the archive, at least.

About finding the right file, that has always been an issue if you have a large archive of files that have not all been clearly named: Open a Zip called "02cv" when looking for a vintage Citroën 2CV and you may end up with a 2002 Crown Victoria instead.  :P

I usually use the Windows Explorer search function to search for a model (usually I search for the author which works quicker) since that can search the contents of Zip/Rar and thus also the text content of readme files. I haven't tested if it can search the contents of absolutely every type of compressed arcive (cab, ace, 7z, etc) but it works for the majority.

If the filename is unclear and no readme included either, I usually resort to quickly opening the .viv file with NFSWizard to see what I'm dealing with.

Oh, and on the topic of Fiedo's cars, these are all his cars that were on JP Racing: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/1p48a7ermrg9julmc8tc3/Fiedo.zip?rlkey=lrr08seuwlj0lvzzve6h7o765&dl=0
(27 mb, 13 cars with matching preview screens)
I sadly do not have a 100% complete backup of every NFS4 mod made by JP Racing himself.

Hello, I wanted to know, if anyone has these cars somewhere stored!

Ford XC Cobra by AccadaccA

Ford XC GT Falcon Coupe by AccadaccA

Hey LRF, sorry, I never noticed your post until Noise replied to it - out of the 2 you posted, I only have the non-Cobra Falcon, despite the Cobra looking very familiar... I'll look further for it.
In the meantime, here's the Ford XC Falcon GT, as released by Accadacca (I believe it was based on a Falcon earlier released by Aussie Muscle):

Isn't that Visa made by Hrvoj Mrkovic?, he also made several BX's and a Lancia Beta Montecarlo back in 2001.
Absolutely. I Could have sworn the Visa was available at NFSCars, but it seems that it isn't (all his other cars are, though)
https://www.nfscars.net/need-for-speed-high-stakes/2/downloads/list/cars/1/author/hrvoje-mrkovic/181/

Here's the Visa, there's also an .exe version of it, which was probably spread via Blo0m's site, but the contents are the same. Don't overlook the faster 'GT' version that serves as a 1st upgrade:

Hey all, I'm sorry for being so absent in recent months, and thus being so late to reply. Real life is keeping me crazy busy, and it's hard to find time to hang out here, at the moment.

At least I'm glad I have the files here that people are asking for: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jis066s65e6x71o9upn6c/Evoness.zip?rlkey=b7om58hn5ziwwjjyb7s4yi4g2&dl=0  (15 mb)
This contains all 7 NFS4 cars released by Evoness, as you can see on his Wayback page. As far as I know his page wasn't updated anymore and no other mods were ever released. That includes, sadly, the all the projects that are also on his page (Civic, Cosmo, Capri, etc.) Last mode with his name in it was probably this one: http://nfsa.ca/c153

Shame, as he was working on a more detailed version of his RX-3, but it never saw the light of day.

edit: I came across this picture in my nfs4 archives, and I THINK it might have been posted on either NFSCheats or NFSCars by Evoness, but I'm not 100% sure after 20 years if it was really him and if not, who else made it. The file is dated October 25th, 2003, which would've been a year and a half after his last official nfs4 release (the HSV GTS). If it's really his, then it shows quite some progress in terms of detail and accuracy, but we may never know for sure. Needless to say, there was never a download for this as far as I know.

Addon Requests / Re: Ferrari Testarossa Spyder
« on: Aug 14, 2023, 4:19 PM »
While that's true, the car in case is an .exe file, so that won't work, sadly.

The car is from Carl Jacobsson, aka Pink Pornostar, and I'm assuming Agent Mulder downloaded the .exe from NFSCars: https://www.nfscars.net/need-for-speed-high-stakes/2/files/view/372/
I tried to run it myself, but nothing happened. At first I thought it was a compatibility issue, but when I looked up Carl's homepage on the Internet Archive, I saw that the file was supposed to be 2,4 mb in size, while what's currently on NFSCars is only 119 kb. (and no, I couldn't find a working ftrs.exe on the Archived site either)

I've searched in my own backup archives, but have sadly not found a complete version of this particular car (although there are lots of alternative Testarossa's for NFSHS)
Maybe NFSfan83 has a working version, him being such a big Miami Vice fan.

But... haven't we been able to submit additional screenshots for years now, or am I misunderstanding? Like what I did here for example, to expand on the (admittedly small) 640x480 screen I uploaded originally? http://nfsa.ca/c50
I went through my archive a while ago and added some bigger preview screens to several more of these older files, (and yeah, they're still not that big at 1024 since they were also taken some 20 years ago)

Of course, if this is a call to community members to share their best quality preview images, I say: Be my guest. :)

Addon Requests / Re: Suche/Search Oldschool autos
« on: Nov 10, 2022, 5:18 PM »
hey remko very thank you for your upload pal. you rules!

I'm glad I was able to help.

Here is the Mercury you asked for, but I have also included the original source car that was later modified by Stacker and uploaded to the German NFS4 communities (as you can see from the readme this was actually downloaded from nfssd.de)
The '69 Mercury Cougar Eliminator was created from scratch by Kris Winters aka 'Cougar' in 1999 (actually it was made for NFS3 first, and then converted to HS later in the year).
A pity Stacker forgot to mention the original creator in the credits, when he released his modified dragster version.
Hope you enjoy them.

Hello, I have the 1957 Chevy Bel Air for you (attachment 57chevy.rar)

I also had the '67 Pontiac GTO by Badfish, but it's not 100% the same because it has no stripe (67GTO_Stock)
Although you did not ask, I also included the "Outlaw" hot rod version of that same '67 GTO, as a bonus.
I don't have any of the other cars, sorry.

I saw your other topics about finding a complete collection of all nd4sp.de cars... I think that will be very hard to find. I think the best chance you have, it to try and find one of the original webmasters for nd4spd.de, and hope that they maybe have a backup of the site on CD or DVD.
But the chance that anyone here downloaded ALL Nfs HS cars from that site, 20 years ago, is very small.

General NFS / Re: gone NFS4 cars

I'm glad I was able to bring back some memories from NFSCHeats' Editing Arena anno early 2000s.  :)  Pity trying to read this board via the Wayback Machine gets so difficult with all the hosting and URL changes in those days. May I ask what your nickname on NFSCHeats was back in the day?

The track editor is not RYan T, although he was one of the initiators of the DM mod (We still have several of his releases here at NFSAddons, if you're interested) but Evil_Stallion - like you said, an NFSCheats regular, and someone I've seen rarely outside of that place - never saw his name in any other NFS sites that I remember. I'm also not sure if he ever created anything else besides those two track betas. He did have a homepage, but I can't seem to make it work in the Wayback Machine.

For the Detroit Muscle mod, there was also a beta release of a track called "Motor City" or somesuch, in ca. 2000/2001. I'm not sure about the author. It's an inner-city track. It don't think it was in the Detroit Muscle beta release?

Could that be the one that I posted in this thread a few years ago? https://www.nfsaddons.com/forums//index.php?topic=1896.msg34942#msg34942

This was probably one of the first tracks trying to look like a dark, industrial city (that wasn't Empire) and, as I said in that other topic, I sadly don't have that track anymore, in fact, I don't even remember the name (could be it was too early to have a final name). It was a retexture of Altantica with a lot of added scenery, but little change in the layout. Past the hairpin area you see in the screens, the track was still unfinished, as in: there was only road, but no scenery at all. It was a very early beta, only shared through the Editing subforum of NFSCheats, and I lost it because it was in a separate folder on my desktop that I forgot to backup when I got a new pc in early 2002.  :( So the screens are all I have.

This youtube video was shared by AJ yesterday on Discord, it's a mini documentary of Ryuji Kainoh and the re-discovery of his oeuvre. Thought I'd post it here also since it's obviously relevant to the topic and probably not everybody here uses Discord:

Projects / Re: New Detroit Muscle Mod (Dilemma Raised)

OLD DETROIT- say does  anyone have a download of this file ? i would luv ta  have it !

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ztfh3la3n4ti4j9/Detroit%20Muscle%20Pack.zip?dl=0 (45 mb)

I uploaded this a few years ago when DM was being discussed, let me know if there's any problems downloading it.
There are instructions for the installation included, but the thing is, the installer was programmed over 20 years ago, and I'm not sure if it still works right on modern versions of Windows and hardware.
The idea was, to create a 'second' installation of Detroit Muscle, creating a separate shortcut on your desktop, so that your original installed version of NFS:HS isn't overwritten.
Again, I can't guarantee that it still works in 2022 as planned, I haven't tried it myself.
If the installer doesn't work, you can always open the .exe files as an archive, and manually install the cars and files as you please.

The mod includes 22 new cars (including pursuit versions), new loading screens, vidwalls and menu files. Tracks, music, etc. remain the same. This was the first complete public release but also the final one; there were no updates with more cars, and such. You can see the official site of Detroit Muscle at https://web.archive.org/web/20030618062642/http://detroitmuscle.racerplanet.com/

another edit: I forgot we already discussed DM in this topic, 4 years ago: https://www.nfsaddons.com/forums/index.php/topic,1896.0.html

Thanks for the detailed instructions, WiLL.  ;) I've rarely opened T3ed myself, but I might just try this out, maybe it'll get me into track modding after all this time, heh.

I just mentioned it here because Nfsfan83 asked for feedback, and with a track of this scale i thought it was an easy thing to overlook.  ;)

Hey NFsfan83, sorry it took me a while to come up with some feedback.
I've enjoyed doing a few test runs on Nassau, it impressed me again with the number of buildings and the great color and texture quality, I could tell that you had fun building this city. Especially impressive was seeing the power water slide, and of course the underwater tunnel works brilliantly, driving through it at speed gives a cool feeling of depth.  :D

A few thoughts I had (please don't take these as criticism, I am not a track maker myself):

You mentioned the skybox being visible through openings in the streets and pavements, there are a lot of small holes in the surface, and I suppose that could be partly fixed with a different background color... in some areas the holes are pretty big, and I would recommend to add a few more road/grass surfaces to fill them. Of course ignore my comment if you were going to fix these anyway.

The same way with the water textures in the sea/bay areas:

The water texture looks great, but I hope you will fill in the holes here, especially at the start/finish area... at first I thought the start area felt a little empty on the left side, but maybe that will be solved if you can finish the sea textures there.

This is the only 'bug' I found, hope you can see on the map where it is. A sharp pointy 'beach' surface is poking upwards through the fence here.
Other than that, I found no bugs - I mean, no holes in the road you can fall though, that kind of thing. Of course, sometimes the car gets stuck in the fence, but I understand it would be an incredible amount of work to 'fix' all those fences, so I can live with that.

This not a complaint, but I just thought this pier looked like there would be something interesting to see here at the end, and I was a little disappointed I could not drive through the barrier to find out. It looked... inviting, if you know what I mean.  ;)

Those are my first thoughts, they are just opinions, of course, you don't have to agree.  ;)

I wouldn't mind testing it a bit, I have some time these days, thankfully.
Also, you know if you upload a file to the database here, you can update it afterwards, it's a new feature on NFSAddons.
