Don't know about HS in Win 8/8.1, but I can run it in Win7 x64 without problems with the Stock Pack. I assume you can run it in 8, too.

Don't go back to XP, that thing is OLD. You better go with 7 instead.

Hey Will :)

I have no experience with Windows 8, either, but it seems that not too many people are overly happy with it ^^ If you can, get yourself a copy of Windows 7, should be fairly cheaply available. Just make sure you get the right version – 32 Bit if your system has less than 4 GB of RAM and 64 Bit if it has at least 4 GB or you intend to upgrade your rig.

And like AJ_Lethal said: no XP. Not because it's old, but because MS dropped support for it so it's becoming more and more vulnerable. Plus its 64 Bit version is as far as I know... under-average ;)

No, in this case the bit count is not about color depth. I don't think you can set it to anything else than 32 bit nowadays...?

Like I said, what you need depends on the amount of RAM your PC has. 64 bit for systems with four or more gigs, 32 bit for those with less.

x64 is recommended if you have over 3GB RAM, since it can handle more than that amount, and it does multitasking better if you have a multicore processor.

HS shouldn't run with any issues since it's an 32-bit application, providing you have the Stock Pack installed.
