NFSAddons Errors & Bugs / Re: Corrupted downloads.

Might be... fixed now either way :)
Thanks Remko!

And what about the Ben Trapp cars? nfscars has all of them, why not nfsaddons?  :P

The Ford Rod issue (Reply #5) has been solved, thanks again to pete9516 and Mike!

The incorrection on the BMW description/pics still remains...

Got another report on my own file: The link to the showcase of General Lee is dead.
https://www.nfsaddons.com/files/nfs4/cars/General_Lee_Showcase.zip
Would be great if you guys relink the file, i can also upload the file again, if it was lost.  :)

Hm,
in the "expected" place, at patches folder, you will only find the DLC-cars.
https://web.archive.org/web/*/ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/patches/nfs-porsche/*
The misc folder only has the game soundtrack as mp3's...
https://web.archive.org/web/*/ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/ea/misc/nfs5/*

Looks like they aren't there... so either we looking in the wrong place, the files have not been archived or they were never on this FTP (instead at other EA server).
To be sure we would need an old link to an official source, or at least the exact original filename respectively.
According to mobygames, the 3.5 patch was released on Jan 13, 2002 (?).

Well, also cant come up with a trusted file from an unofficial source... e.g. the patch at nfsplanet.de seems untouched: https://www.nfsplanet.com/patch.php
Have you checked that, does it already contain a crack?
Additionally the file dates display August 2000... when the patch actually has been released...? So i understand your dilemma - which file/info can be trusted?  ???

Greetings

Update.

- changed layout of the list, additional tweaks for the new site-design.
- "NFS Bolide" added to Webarchive section (files linked to external ftp, which has been partly archived)

- JimDiabolos cloud folders expired again (www.tsabrowski.de/NFS-HS) - i contacted him via PM

Thanks for your continued feedback!!

Ha, thanks for continuously working on the site and keeping it alive!
That was a very quick reply, too :)

For 1.
Ah okay, so probably lot of pursuit cars are quite hidden...

And indeed, when selecting a car-brand i find it logical to display car results only

For 2. & 4.
Cool stuff. Not sure different themes are necessary, but optional features are always nice

For 3.
Thanks for fixing that.

Greetings... oh and Happy Halloween  >:D

Guess the gross of the design changeover is done...
Wanna emphazise again: Great job!
Especially the search box is very useful and works very well. An additional author search in the download section would be great, but the search box works good enough i think.

Anyways, got some small bugs i noticed and listed them here:

1.
The brand system with the drop down menu works fine so far.
Though it seems, somehow the pursuit brand has not received any entries since 8 months (when sorted by newest), although there were at least 4 releases of cop cars in the meantime:
Search: https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/all/cars/brand:!pursuit+cars/
Releases:
-https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/landrover/2798/landrover-pursuit-ranger-discovery-series-i.html
-https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/ford/2785/ford-police-interceptor-concept-hometown-sd.html
-https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/ford/2784/ford-police-interceptor-concept-atlantica-pd.html

I did not look through all the brands, but i think you should check whats going wrong there.
Furthermore, for searching brands, the filter should automatically deselect the options "Tracks" and "Files/Tools" (ergonomic issue)

2.
Minor bug related to profile pictures:
Seems that some avatar image dimensions can cause overlapping-issues at the comment section
Example: Comment by "Lotec" here:
https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/bmw/1524/bmw-bmw-m5-e39.html

3.
1930 Ford Model A Drag Pickup
I know i mentioned this before, but still the dead file is online as doublet.
So before the issue is forgotten and the valid, undamaged reupload gets removed, i mention it again:
The original upload by IH8COPS for this car is corrupted. The zip file (blank.zip) contains only folders, but no car.viv or other files. (Link, nfsaddons-car-id 82)
The reupload (thanks to pete9516) is exactly that - it is the unchanged, undamaged zip file (Link, nfsaddons-car-id 2834)
So you should keep the reupload or join the uploads to one entry.

4.
Site design:
Using the design for 2 months now and cope with most changes :)

Still, i think the white background colour is too bright and sterile (especially on the main page).
In my oppinion a colored background would look more convenient, maybe a blueish tone... What you think?

Okay thats all.. just some quick feedback from me.
Greetings

Hey Remko,
this site is listed in the other thread (Old NFS Websites - Nostalgia & History) at "RS Network" in the list. Because, like you noticed, no files can be downloaded anymore. I linked to archive.org, but indeed the site is still online and it will be easier to navigate the site with a direct link. Going to update the link.

By the way Remko, thanks for making the topic sticky :)

edit: btw archive.org saved one valid zip file for this page. A '97 Honda Accord mod for NFS II made by Mattheüs Patty ...

Ah, thanks for the heads up. Need to try that!

Surely has potential to improve the looks/atmosphere of the game, with the right settings. The difficulty is to balance the effects to look good at different lighting conditions (day, night, weather, menu etc).
But sure good for making up some interesting pics :)

These files are from www.gtrcars.net aka www.drivingpassion.net and were hosted for quite some time already (as Keiiko said, files are from 2012). Unfortunately the site went offline in September 2017 (check thread Online-Resources of classic NFS titles)
Its only a launcher for the game though. You need the original game disc or an ISO file to run a race.
The video from LGR has all other info (installation, limited game content etc) and in the video description are also links provided to PC Gaming Wiki, with instructions and download links.
Again, you need the MCO disc to actually start a game with the launcher.

Hey PPLd and welcome to the forum.

Since you said...
[...]
Graphics look stunning now and everything seemed to work perfect.. until I start buying cars in Evolution mode.
[...]
... i assume your game is up and running.

So the issue is, that after patching you have a 100% completed game, but you want to progress through the game on your own, right?
Hm, good question.
Well, you need to make a new driver profile on game startup. Then Evolution and Factory modes are reset.
I think, unfortunately you will loose all the fixes that came within the savegame...

The Essentials Pack (http://www.nfscars.net/need-for-speed-porsche-unleashed/3/files/view/11514/) does come with a savegame (named "Player").
Is this the completed profile you are using, PPLd?
Actually I assumed Essentials Pack has a "virgin" savegame, just with all fixes implemented (at least thats what i understand from the description stating "5. A clean savegame with all the fixes applied.") - can't test this myself right now, though.

Thanks, madman! The only time you're really "in" a category is if you are in the game info, or browsing the downloads, so having the random addon only for that category would make it empty most of the time. Maybe someday I'll let users select which versions show up in there, so they don't see addons that don't apply to them.
[...]

Okay, guess i understand. I think that the addons are random on the homepage and "outside" a category is totally fine!
But if a category is selected, the random addons should be only from that game, if that is possible  :)
You know, so you can select a game just rummaging  ;)

Nice work on the new design Mike.

Love the new features of the download section. Sorting and selecting brand or NFS-game is really smooth.
Really improves functionality of the site.
I also like the "Random NFS Addon" (although i think it should show only files from the selected game category).
The navigation bar at top is functional and effective.
For the forum the new design also looks fantastic.
The projects category is a neat idea too, im sure people will make good use of it.
Overall a very bright design, giving the site a fresh new look

I got some ideas for design tweaking, though. First off, agreeing with Remko, kinda miss the Freak-DS pics (at least for the homepage)  :)
then maybe...
- while you are at it... add some more filter functions to the download section (e.g. searchbox would be nice, or searching for authors)
- Bigger pictures (increase size of preview pictures in download section, also featured car at the front-page should have pic at least as big as the SOTD)
- on the forums i find the box with user info is a little too wide, squeeze that a little to make more room for the actual text post (speaking from PC-browser perspective)

Everything else is a matter of taste, i guess  :P

Just my 2 Cents. Greetings

For the 1987 car I used the actual texture took from a pic of the car, That was all they had in the 1987 game but later they progressed to better images on the doors.
[...]

Yeah, that were the limits of the time. Size of 8x8 pixel for a police decal, they couldn't even fit "LPD" there - almost sad ...  :(
Of course not completely change the logo, im just thinking this detailed LTD from DodgeBoy matches better with less pixelated door decal... but if it is the look you wanted to achieve its alright!

Im sorry, from your introduction i assumed you are looking for feedback on this project.
I just realised it is already released at nfspolicehq.com!
Maybe emphasize more distinctly that this is a showcase in the future or give a link right away.  :)

Greetings

An interesting music selection. Won't bore you with legal concerns and just give my oppinion about the music. The song lengths are mostly balanced, so you will hear different songs per race (2-3min is perfect i think). That is good. Some racing tunes are about 5 minutes,  the showcase even 7 minutes - too long. Cut the showcase music to a nice loop, it will save filesize as well - in the end, you won't look so often and so long at a showcase.

Btw, what are the song-titles of the folk songs entitled "Show Ep4 1", "Show Ep34" and "Show Ep12" (GAME2, GAME8 & GAME16)? Are they from a TV show?

Although i like most of your songs (as pure music), i think not all fit the pace of a racing game. Songs like "Autumn's Twilight", "Way Up On The Hill" or "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" are too slow and sad for a racing tune (these are also the overly long songs mentioned before).
Also i not see myself driving a Hot Pursuit race, while having Nirvana's "Rape Me" as playback... although there is a certain humor in it maybe - hm.
What i really like are the rock'n'roll tunes. Although these have that 50-60s vibe and probably won't match a modern car lineup...  :D
Faster songs, like "Something Skattish", are a better match-up overall. The menu music is mostly slow and calm, thus a good choice in my book.
Just my thoughts, music is of course always a matter of taste.  ;)

Cool idea. Nice rides.
I love the later incarnations of this game series, the Swat games. But considering the time at that the Police Quest games were released, they were pretty awesome.

Recreating the overall paint-schemes is great, but for the emblems you should go for more detail (like you did with the last 2 cars). The relatively detailed Ford police car and the pixelated PD-logo do not match up in my oppinion. At least the "PD" lettering should use a sharp font, maybe more details.  :)
