the new design is kinda ok, but i would unite the theme - round or sqare only, not both, it looks weird to me... but there is problem for me with accessing categories other than forum where i get error: too many redirects on vivaldi/firefox(nightly) :-\

The redesign looks killer, Mike. Although I can't access the site on my mobile phone (redirect loop).

Also, you can add a sort by name option for files.

Hey guys, thanks for the feedback!

I will take a look at the redirect looping. It's not happening for me, but hopefully I can see what's going on.

I have some more tweaking to do for mobile, but didn't realize you guys viewed it that way :)

Thanks! You mean how the forums is square, and the main site is more rounded?
Title: Re: NFSAddons Redesign comments
Post by: Keiiko on Sep 17, 2018, 9:17 AM
Blue ones are squared
Red ones are rounded

you should really pick one style, this way it looks like you put old forum board from 2008 onto new web  ;)

also squared ones are flat, rounded ones are visibly rised

Thanks, I'll work on tweaking those :)

Can you try navigating to the rest of the site now and see if it works?

If it doesn't try logging out and logging back in on the forums

Well, this certainly was a nice surprise after a short vacation... site was unavailable for a couple of hours but I wisely decided to wait before panicking. ::) I love the new design that uses the width of the screen now, I regret seeing the familiar banner screens at the top of the page go (The ones by Freak), but the current background images look neat, too. And it's great that it adapts to mobile use, too.

I also like that the download sections now shows the latest uploads by default, helps giving the most recent entries a bit extra screen time. I could not resist sorting them by 'oldest first, to see back which ones were the first to appear all the way back in january 2002.  =D  And I like seeing the return of the 'random car/track'.  8)  Much respect for all the work you put into this new design.

Thanks, Remko! I do miss those old images too, perhaps I'll have to tweak them to fit the new design too. Not sure if it's that noticable, but the downloads pages show a random car in the header, rather than a stock one like here on the forums. Some of them don't work too well, I should keep track of them and create a list of ones that don't look good.

Still lots of work to do on the mobile side of things (the forum isn't the greatest in mobile), but it's functional, at least. Hah, I actually ahd fun scrolling through them all while I was developing it, too. Lots of great cars I forgot about. The random sort is fun :)

Nice work on the new design Mike.

Love the new features of the download section. Sorting and selecting brand or NFS-game is really smooth.
Really improves functionality of the site.
I also like the "Random NFS Addon" (although i think it should show only files from the selected game category).
The navigation bar at top is functional and effective.
For the forum the new design also looks fantastic.
The projects category is a neat idea too, im sure people will make good use of it.
Overall a very bright design, giving the site a fresh new look

I got some ideas for design tweaking, though. First off, agreeing with Remko, kinda miss the Freak-DS pics (at least for the homepage)  :)
then maybe...
- while you are at it... add some more filter functions to the download section (e.g. searchbox would be nice, or searching for authors)
- Bigger pictures (increase size of preview pictures in download section, also featured car at the front-page should have pic at least as big as the SOTD)
- on the forums i find the box with user info is a little too wide, squeeze that a little to make more room for the actual text post (speaking from PC-browser perspective)

Everything else is a matter of taste, i guess  :P

Just my 2 Cents. Greetings

Thanks, madman! The only time you're really "in" a category is if you are in the game info, or browsing the downloads, so having the random addon only for that category would make it empty most of the time. Maybe someday I'll let users select which versions show up in there, so they don't see addons that don't apply to them.

Thanks for the other suggestions! Author search box is something I am planning on adding, but want to make sure it works properly and makes sense. The other two, featured car size and forum layout are already on my list :)

I'm working on making the forums responsive right now, but have to re-write a lot more code than I thought,  and making that narrower will be part of it

Okay, guess i understand. I think that the addons are random on the homepage and "outside" a category is totally fine!
But if a category is selected, the random addons should be only from that game, if that is possible  :)
You know, so you can select a game just rummaging  ;)

Mike site looks great just one thing i miss - Brands -
on the downloads page, if you are filtering to search for cars, there will be a brand drop-down where you can select the brand to filter by as well :)

Guess the gross of the design changeover is done...
Wanna emphazise again: Great job!
Especially the search box is very useful and works very well. An additional author search in the download section would be great, but the search box works good enough i think.

Anyways, got some small bugs i noticed and listed them here:

1.
The brand system with the drop down menu works fine so far.
Though it seems, somehow the pursuit brand has not received any entries since 8 months (when sorted by newest), although there were at least 4 releases of cop cars in the meantime:
Search: https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/all/cars/brand:!pursuit+cars/
Releases:
-https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/landrover/2798/landrover-pursuit-ranger-discovery-series-i.html
-https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/ford/2785/ford-police-interceptor-concept-hometown-sd.html
-https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/ford/2784/ford-police-interceptor-concept-atlantica-pd.html

I did not look through all the brands, but i think you should check whats going wrong there.
Furthermore, for searching brands, the filter should automatically deselect the options "Tracks" and "Files/Tools" (ergonomic issue)

2.
Minor bug related to profile pictures:
Seems that some avatar image dimensions can cause overlapping-issues at the comment section
Example: Comment by "Lotec" here:
https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/bmw/1524/bmw-bmw-m5-e39.html

3.
1930 Ford Model A Drag Pickup
I know i mentioned this before, but still the dead file is online as doublet.
So before the issue is forgotten and the valid, undamaged reupload gets removed, i mention it again:
The original upload by IH8COPS for this car is corrupted. The zip file (blank.zip) contains only folders, but no car.viv or other files. (Link, nfsaddons-car-id 82 (https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/ford/82/ford-1930-ford-model-a-drag-pickup.html))
The reupload (thanks to pete9516) is exactly that - it is the unchanged, undamaged zip file (Link, nfsaddons-car-id 2834 (https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/ford/2834/ford-1930-ford-model-a-drag-pickup.html))
So you should keep the reupload or join the uploads to one entry.

4.
Site design:
Using the design for 2 months now and cope with most changes :)

Still, i think the white background colour is too bright and sterile (especially on the main page).
In my oppinion a colored background would look more convenient, maybe a blueish tone... What you think?

Okay thats all.. just some quick feedback from me.
Greetings

Those cars are uploaded with the brands set as Alpine, Land Rover and Ford, instead of Pursuit Cars. I will work on adding a tag so cars can have multiple categories like that, but that will take a bit of time to get setup and working properly.

As for searching by brand, if you select Cars, Tracks and Tools, and then select a brand, it will still show you the tracks and tools, and the brand is only related to the cars, obviously. I thought this might be useful if you still wanted to see the tracks and tools, but I can easily switch that up. What do others think?

2.

Example: Comment by "Lotec" here:
https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/bmw/1524/bmw-bmw-m5-e39.html

Thank for pointing that out, I'll have to come up with some styling to prevent that

This has been fixed. I disabled the other one and setup a redirect so it goes to the new upload by pete. I also uploaded the original screenshot as an additional screen for pete's upload

Thanks for your continued feedback!!

Ha, thanks for continuously working on the site and keeping it alive!
That was a very quick reply, too :)

For 1.
Ah okay, so probably lot of pursuit cars are quite hidden...

And indeed, when selecting a car-brand i find it logical to display car results only

For 2. & 4.
Cool stuff. Not sure different themes are necessary, but optional features are always nice

For 3.
Thanks for fixing that.

Greetings... oh and Happy Halloween  >:D

Yeah, there are probably lots of pursuit cars hidden, but I don't mind tracking them down and adding an additional category once that functionality is set up.

Personally dark themes make my eyes hurt, but I know lots of people prefer that, so I'll at least have a light or dark option available in the future :)

This might be common and I am not sure if you think this has a bit of my Deja Vu or whatever...
Showroom errors, I uploaded multiple showrooms at once and half of them were accepted. Now I couldn't get my order right so it will take time. Also you should expect I pay proper attention to the PNG/JPG stuff because I certainly do. Also I am waiting for the CHANGE USERNAME option. AND I uploaded a download once few days ago but it wasn't accepted.

I don't remember seeing a mod come through from you recently, so maybe there was a connection error. I'm working on a way to determine the file type before you hit submit, but as of now it should return an error if the images aren't in proper format.

As for that name change, I can do that manually. What would you like it to be?

Didn't see that coming, also I found that out when I randomly went onto Facebook and saw the thing.

Just noticed that when I edit one of my comments on a file in the downloadsection, I also delete a comment from someone else.

Is this possible?

Whoa, that is strange. I will take a look, but that shouldn't be happening. If you refresh the page, does the old comment show back up?

No.

It happned here:

https://nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/tools/7508/italdesign-scighera-showcase.html

I gave the first comment, soon Max... replied.

I decided to edit my comment and saved.

Than I noticed Max's comment was gone.

My comment was oké. After refresh nothing changed.

Could be Max did it himself. But to be honest I had this happening before.

Weird. I can't reproduce that, but I will keep an eye on it and see if I notice anything

Pursuit doesn't show up as a Car Brand during uploads (I'm sure that was a thing before).
Seems like this issue was partially fixed. This now happens when I try to edit a addon car. Car Brand is blanked and Pursuit is not an option.

Try now, should hopefully be fixed

When I delete my comment on a car, I automatically delete someone else's comment.

It happened here:

https://www.nfsaddons.com/downloads/nfshs/cars/pursuitcars/8232/pursuitcars-pursuit-ford-crown-victoria.html

After refresh it was still gone

I am pretty sure that this happend because the other comment was a reply to your comment... so it was directly referring to what you wrote. And if you delete your comment, the one replying to yours doesn´t make sense anymore, does it?!? ;)

@Cooya: hmmm could be........yes I mentioned the car had a wrong carp.txt and he fixed it, I thought my comment was not needed.

still it's tricky, I must watch out before I delete my comment.

I'll take a look at this and see if I can figure out what's going on

Yup, this was the case. any replies to your comment, once you delete it, will also get deleted. I could change it so if you delete a parent comment, and there are replies, then your comment just gets changed to [removed] or something along those lines?

It's oké, now I understand what's going on. I think there's enough freedom to edit/remove comments.

I think that's a great idea
