*** WORKING METHOD @ 05/21/2020 ***

Ok!!!

I managed to get it working on a 100%.

Steps:
1. Download and install latest nglide from (http://www.zeus-software.com/)
2. Clean Install NFSHS from disk or ISO. (You can view Gustingorriz Youtube video if you need a guide)
3. From the Modern Patch just copy the "Data" folder, the "dgvoodoo2a.dll" located in the "drivers/nglide" folder and the "eacsnd.dll" file to the installation folder. Afterwards copy the "Data" and "SaveData" from your disk to the installation directory.
4. From (http://www.zeus-software.com/) go to their compatible game's list and proceeded to install the required files for NFSHS as explained in that page on their site.
5. Install Stock Patch from (http://www.hsscoring.com/download/NFS_HS_SP_Installer.zip)
6. From the Stock Patch select:
    a. EA's 4.50 Patch
    b. NoCollision & NoCD
    c. EP & Highpoly Menu Patch
    d. Mercury / 1MByte Error Patch
    e. Set NTFS rights
    f. Enable Movies
7. Download SweetFX v1.5.1 from (https://sfx.thelazy.net/downloads/)
8. Extract the contents from SweetFX to the Installation folder and proceed to delete the following files:
    a. dxgi.dll
    b. dxgi.fx
9. Configure the "SweetFX_settings.txt" there you can apply settings like HDR coloring, SMA filters and others. You just have to change the "0" for "1" to activate the effects.
10. Run the Game!

Let me know if you need some assistance. Maybe I can guide you through zoom.

Ok!!!

I managed to get it working on a 90%. After creating 10 copies of the installation folder, tweaking every single one. And sleeping past midnight :P

Steps:
1. Clean install from disk or ISO. (You can view Gustingorriz Youtube video if you need a guide)
2. Install Modern Patch.
3. In installation folder:
    a. On"nfshs.ini" set ThrashDriver=nglide
    b. Configure the "thrash.ini" in the "drivers\nglide\" directory.
4. Download SweetFX v1.5.1 from: https://sfx.thelazy.net/downloads/
5. Extract the contents from SweetFX to the Installation folder and proceed to delete the following files:
    a. dxgi.dll
    b. dxgi.fx
6. Configure the "SweetFX_settings.txt" there you can apply settings like HDR coloring, SMA filters and others. You just have to change the "0" for "1" to activate the effects.

Why 90%. Because I'm still trying to figure out still why is it not picking the 1920x1080 resolution I set. Maybe I messed up in the "thrash.ini" configuration. I still have to figure this out.

Interesting Discovery:
Something I discovered while in the testing face was that after applying the modern patch. I installed nglide v2.1 from http://www.zeus-software.com/  went to their compatible game's list and proceeded to install the required files for NFSHS as explained in that page on their site. Afterwards I then configured the nglide app and copied the "dgvoodoo2a.dll" file located in the "drivers\nglide\" folder to the main root folder. To my surprise it ran. I also deleted the "drivers\nglide\" and" nfshs.ini" from the modern patch and the game ran again. I'm convinced you could apply SweetFX and it will run. However the game asks you to insert the cd for the music. (This last part sucks).

Let me know if you need some assistance. Maybe I can guide you through zoom.

Hi.

Ok. Let me check. I've been tweaking the instalation folder a lot since I was testing ReShade before. I will proceed to unistall everything and Install again with the modern patch. With that I can track the precise steps to get it working. I will try to post later in the day.

I've managed to get some screenshots.

Mayor changes involve the use of SMAA Antialiasing and Coloring. Both add to the game. For instance SMAA smooths jagged edges, and all the coloring options really help get some nice atmosphere (no washed out colors) at zero performance cost. I just wonder how it would look with high polygon cars.

One Drive Folder:

P.S. Try comparing both images at the same time, that will make you spot the differences. Let me know if you run into any trouble.

Hey,

You're the guy who ported those tracks to NFSHS  :o That was pretty cool I have to try them out  =D

By the way have you tried googling if you can get them by cheats. I recall in NFS II you can unlock the Indigo by typing redracer and the Hollywood Track by typing hollywood in the main menu. I guess something like that might exist for The Need for Speed.

Regards,

Hi guys.

A while ago I published a way to get NFSHS working with Reshade. However using Reshade can sometimes result in low framerates. A viable alternative that can yield the same results minus the low frames is SweetFX. I managed to get it working on NFSHS in my Windows 10 Laptop.

The instalation is pretty simple just extract all the contents of SweetFX in the instalation forlder where the game is installed. For older titles after extracting the contents you're going to have to delete the folowing two files:

dxgi.dll                 - DirectX 10/11 proxy dll that will inject shaders into DirectX 10/11 games
   dxgi.fx                  - DirectX 10/11 specific shader code

These two files refer to DirectX 10/11 which the older titles don't support that's why you have to delete them.

After deleting the files you can configure the effects you want to use in the "SweetFX_settings.txt" there you can apply settings like HDR coloring, SMA filters and others. You just have to change the "0" for "1" to activate the effects.

That would be all.

Happy racing. If you need run into any problems let me know.

Regards

General NFS / Re: Fun Making Vid Walls for HS

Hello.

I use paintnet myself. Although i'm not that pro. I've been learning watching youtube videos. The farthest i've come is to make vidwalls for the car's showcase and some editing for the slideshow. Do you know any good guide in youtube to learn more?

General NFS / Help Merge Multiple *.bnk files
« on: May 03, 2019, 7:45 PM »
Hey,

I found that the Car Audio Commentary files for Need for Speed II are compatible with Need for Speed High Stakes, the only downside is that the *.bnk files are splitted in 5 or more *.bnk files. Does anyone know of a software to merge them.

Regards.

Hey guys,

I uploaded a couple of pictures so you can get a better idea of the differences. I suspect we can get it working for other NFS titles.

If you want to check the full size images for comparison here is the link on my one drive:

Oh!!!

This is nice. You should check with Keiko that way he could add it in the installer he made for the Good Old NFS Games.

Excellent Work!

Hi guys.

I agree with OP, I've been recently messing with reshade to get some cool effects in game and the only way I could get a decent frame rate was with a clean install with the *.iso and the expansion pack. I have to get into Keiko's installer to see if I can make it do with that. I also have to talk to Jim Diabolo and ask him, if he can update nglide in the expansion pack to v2.00.

Now regarding the addon NFSHS from EA. The only way I got the AI to choose them was to add them not only in the Save Data, but also in the Data folder. This is the only way I have managed it to work. I will post the files on a shared folder once I get home, that way you won't need to install anything just copy and paste the files.

By the way addon cars include:
  • Aston Martin DB7
  • BMW M Roadster
  • BMW M Coupe
  • Lister Storm
  • Jaguar XJR-15
  • Ferrari 360 Modena
  • Ford Falcon XR8
  • HSV SV99 (VT)
  • Nissan Skyline GT-R VSpec

P.D. If you want to play in vanilla. I can recommend you some cars that fit perfectly in the game. PM me if you are interested.

****Updated and working on Reshade 4.2.1 @ 04/06/2019****

After getting the game to work with reshade, I began to experiment with different setups because I was experiencing an unplayable frame rate with the previous setup (15 fps).

I think I found the optimal setup since now I get up to 30 fps.

Installation:
1. Download and install nGlide -- (http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide)

2. Install NFSHS via CDRom or by mounting the ISO

3. Download and install the Expansion Pack -- (https://www.magentacloud.de/share/8ny03h-h8e#$/)
Note: I downloaded the big file 115.8 Mb since the smaller pack was giving me issues with Win 10 Defender
Don't add any check to the glide renderer in the Expansion Pack Setup and read every check box option if you don't now what to select.

4. Configure nGlide settings after installing the Stock Pack when prompted

5. Configure the 3dSetup and select: "Glide Voodoo Cards" as the Graphic Renderer

6. Download and execute the latest reshade software from the official site (http://reshade.me/)
6.1. Navigate the NFSHS executable file "nfs4.exe"
6.2. Select the rendering API: "Direct 3D 9"
6.3. Click "Yes" to download a collection of standard effects to use with the tool.
6.4. When prompted to: "Select the effects to install" just make sure to have all of them checked. (This is so you have the full list of effects to try later in the game; afterwards you can delete the ones you won't use in the "shaders" folder located inside the "reshade-shaders" folder).
6.5. Configure additional options as "show fps" and the "screenshots path" when the reshade setup title bar says "completed".

Configuration:
1. When you execute the game you should see a title bar that indicates that reshade is loading.
2. Wait until all the effects are loaded.
3. Press "Home" to access the configuration panel.
3.1 To navigate the panel you can press "Ctrl+Tab"
3.2. While in the panel you can press the "Arrow Keys", "Space Bar" , "Enter" and "Tab" or "Ctrl+Tab" to navigate the panel.
4. Create your profile in the menu, afterwards you can start using it.
5. The shaders I use are:

- Colorfulness (Color Related)
- FakeHDR (Color Related)
- Vibrance (Color Related)
- LumaSharpen (Soft Sharpening of the Image)
- FXAA (Eliminate Jagged Edges and more)

With those effects I get an average of 30 fps with a resolution of 1920x1080 in nGlide. Take note that the more effects you add will lower your fps while in the game.

Feel free to comment, I'll do what I can to help you.

Note: I think that the issue is that with the previous setup I was forcing the game to use directX as the graphics renderer. With the new setup it uses nGlide and that gives a boost to the fps.

****Updated and working on Reshade 4.1.1.495 @ 26/01/2019****

Hey guys,

I hope you're all ok. I managed the get the game working with reshade. You can even select which effects to use with the keyboard. Maybe we could all try to find a good configuration and post it here in the forums so everyone can use it.

Here are the steps I followed:

Installation:
1. Install NFSHS with the modern patch.
2. In the nfs4.ini file from the modern patch change the ThrashDriver to "dgvoodoo", and then proceed to configure the dgvoodoo wrapper in the "dgvoodooconf.exe" executable.
3. Download the latest reshade software from the official site (http://reshade.me/).
4. Execute reshade.
4.1. Navigate the NFSHS executable file "nfs4.exe".
4.2. Select the rendering API: "Direct 3D 10+"
4.3. Click "Yes" to download a collection of standard effects to use with the tool.
4.4. When prompted to: "Select the effects to install" just make sure to have all of them checked. (This is so you have the full list of effects to try later in the game; afterwards you can delete the ones you won't use in the "shaders" folder located inside the "reshade-shaders" folder).
4.5. Configure additional options as "show fps" and the "screenshots path" when the reshade setup title bar says "completed".

Configuration:
1. When you execute the game you should see a title bar that indicates that reshade is loading.
2. Wait until all the the effects are loaded.
3. Press "Shift+F2" or "Home" (for newer versions) to access the configuration panel.
3.1 To navigate the panel you can use "Tab" or "Ctrl+Tab" (for newer versions)
3.2. While in the panel you can use the "Arrow Keys", "Space Bar" , "enter" and "Tab" or "Ctrl+Tab" to navigate the panel.
4. Create your profile in the menu, afterwards you can start using it.
5. You can try the effects while in the game so you can tweak it to your linking. So far the effect's I have used are:

- Colorfulness (Color Related)
- FakeHDR (Color Related)
- Vibrance (Color Related)
- LumaSharpen (Soft Sharpening of the Image)
- FXAA (Eliminate Jagged Edges and more)

Pictures are attached.

Take note the effects can lower your fps while in game. Take note that a good dgvoodoo configuration can increase the performance of the game with the effects loaded.

Feel free to comment, I'll do what I can to help you.

General NFS / Re: Car Chrome Adjust in NFS High Stakes
« on: Oct 13, 2018, 2:15 PM »
AJ,

Thank a lot. I just have c couple more questions:

1. Do I have to make this process for all the parts of the car, or just the body?
2. Does it apply to damaged parts as well?

Thanks in advance.
