Unfortunately, the main "search" box function is not working for me. I will post back when I try on my other PCs, but for the moment I'm using this one:

Ubuntu Desktop x86_64
Opera 11.51 (x64)

Anyone else have this problem?
When I search, I'm returned to the main "news" page :/

NFSAddons Errors & Bugs / Update Display Problems
« on: Jun 21, 2010, 2:13 PM »
I'm using the latest version of Google Chrome (5.0.375.70) and noticed the nice-looking NFSAddons updates. Well, unfortunately, they only work 1/2 of the time and only on the homepage. When I start to actually browse the site (i.e.: send a PM), I get an ugly-looking stack of links instead of the display buttons. Here's a sample so you know what I'm "trying" to describe :p

(if image didn't show up, then click here)

Hope this helps you fix it I can provide more screens if needed but probably not for a while - I'll be out of town for a week. Cheers :)

Editing Projects / Look what I've Found! - Motor City Offline
« on: Jun 05, 2010, 9:31 AM »
Remko and I have been shooting PM's back and forth about the old Motor City Online mod for NFS High Stakes.  He was nice enough to supply me with his backed-up copy of it and a bonus traffic pack (thanks, Remko!)

And I was looking around the Web a little bit and realized that there is another, somewhat-living MCO mod. I was surprised to see that this has been maintained up until the end of 2009... and maybe still is, the guy has a YouTube channel under the username WideoPL.

So if any of you MCO or old muscle car fans want to check this out, here's his site:

Motor City Offline

And I checked the links, it is indeed downloadable but really slow to download from here where I am (servers are, as you might guess, in Poland)

It looks well-organized and all, i have yet to see how it really works and what bugs are in it, but this is why I shared it with NFSAddons. Maybe I will contact the author and ask him about making an NFS HS Mixer-compatible installer...

anyway have fun! :)

General NFS / Mercedes SLK230 / BMW Z3 Replacements?
« on: May 01, 2010, 7:02 AM »
Well I'm working on a new high stakes replacement set... which won't be out for a while, but I'm starting for a pack for slow PCs.

Does anyone know of a good lowpoly replacement for the SLK230 and BMW Z3? I am considering an Audi TT for one, but I would like at least cars of the same brand...

And I hope it wouldn't be made too long ago so I can still contact the author, otherwise I can't use the car.

Does anyone want to share what they use in their HS to replace those cars? :)

I thought it'd be a good idea if users could perform an advanced search. Maybe only if registered? But anyway... it would be like this, for my suggested Search Options idea:

Search Forums? [checkbox]
Search Only Selected NFS Game Files? [checkbox]
 --> cars [ ] tracks [ ] tools [ ]
Search: [drop-down]
Titles
Descriptions
Comments
etc.

And this would be accessed by clicking the word Search, unless you have a better idea.

Anyone think this would be useful? :)

Site Suggestions/Feedback / Idea: Favorite Tracks?
« on: Apr 18, 2010, 5:15 AM »
I just wondered about this, I think it would be cool if users could select their favorite tracks as they can with cars. But it might make more sense if favorite tracks will be only visible in the profile, and users can choose whether to display it (not at all, only in profile, or in every post)

I know there's some great tracks here, and I use the favorite system to help me organize pieces I want to use in a mod package, or ones I want to add to a car pack...

Anyone else like this idea? :)

Thanks in advance,
*FM*

I had a few ideas for fairness of cars' or tracks' rating and promotions:

Rating - I love the current rating system, but I feel like I need some more numbers to work with here... could we possibly try a */10 system? Or to make it cleaner, allow users to select "4.5" as a rating? This would be helpful for me, because I do often need something between 4/5 and 5/5 to rate things with ;)
And the other thing, I did realize that authors can rate their own work, maybe that should be disallowed
downloads- if the same IP that uploaded the car downloads it, maybe downloads shouldn't be counted. I know NFSCars has had this problem with a certain car... PM me for the one.

Editing Projects / FM HS Mod - Permission
« on: Mar 10, 2010, 4:06 PM »
In the past, I was irresponsible concerning authors' rights and permissions. This was an unthinkably stupid mistake, and I was clearly too excited about the release to think - wait, what the heck am I doing?.

This thread is intended to make sure before my mod is online again (it's been offline for months now), all authors APPROVE of the mod and what cars I have included and any modifications I have provided. Here I will update my carlist as far as not only what cars but who has submitted permission for me to use the car mentioned.

(As of now, I am still debating which cars to choose for my FM 3.7 Basic Replacement pack. The list will be online AND the mod itself will not be released until ALL permissions are sorted out)

Now to be fair, I will obviously only proceed with including cars that are accepted. However, if the author is totally unreachable and especially if they aren't active in their NFS work anymore, I will include their cars unless they object. I will assume that they accept me to use their cars with some minor modifications, and give them ALL credit.

--

If you are an author and you are concerned about having your car(s) in this package of cars, notify me by this thread, PM, or e-mail. I respect your decision. So far these authors have mods included:
- XJ220 (See the thread by Zpectre about his NFS new concept, I have a message for you)
- (most likely) Blazn Motorsports. I remember you granted me permission for your Porsche GT1 and your Ferrari, but if there are any more I'll ask again :)
- Blo0m (so far I have not been able to contact Blo0m. Does anyone have a recommendation?)
- Sergi (I sent him an e-mail but it bounced back... whatever e-mail address I found is not active anymore)
- NFS Will - Hi! I like your tracks, is it OK with you if I use them? :)
- KV12Supercharged (possibly) - I haven't had the time to e-mail him yet. I will do that ASAP
- Freak-DS - The carlist is in a very early alpha form and not close to ready yet. So far I haven't used any of your cars (that was a very hard setback for me :(() but if I do, let's talk. Same goes with Cooya!. I'm really, really sorry about our mix-up before and I hope we can still be friends :hs:
- AJ_Lethal - I'm going to use one or two of his tracks. I will contact him SOON :)

Any authors who would LIKE to submit their cars for my mod to be picked, I'd love to use them! I have certain requirements and I may need to make small modifications, but post in this thread if you've got a car you want me to have!

Thank you.
Sincerely,

Help/F.A.Q / NFS 4 HS / RC on Ubuntu Linux
« on: Mar 03, 2010, 1:57 PM »
It's possible, my friends...
Here's my original guide:
http://www.iplounge.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1624
But I'll paste it here anyway incase anyone wants Ubuntu.
Well, I managed to actually pull this off - EP and everything.
I'm running Ubuntu Linux 9.10 (Karmic) and I was able to run Mixer, IPL, and HS without much trouble. Here's what i went through:

1) I downloaded PlayOnLinux from their website (latest version, not one in channel). This is Wine with added functionality for playing Windows games. I set WINE with winecfg to emulate a desktop (1152x864) and to be Windows 98.

2) I followed this tutorial, and I skipped the part of copying the DLLs from a Windows installation.

3) I used a tutorial actually used for installing Word 2007 on WINE, but the things it told you to install seemed relevant. http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2009/11/office-2007-in-ubuntu-910-with-wine.html

4) I mounted NFSHS.ISO in my home folder\Virtual CD Drive\
then AFTER it was mounted, I set that to WINE's D:\ Drive.

5) I opened my virtual disk of HS, then ran SETUP.EXE with WINE. I followed the install instructions, leaving all to Default, except I chose a Full installation.

6) I used the EP3 (or SP3 if you prefer) and installed EA's addon cars only *you can install whichever you want, this was just for space's sake* and I chose not to install addon tracks *same as before*. I installed WinPCap3.1 and ipl2beta75f and Mixer. Installation worked fine, except I might have encountered an error. But it still worked... and INSTALL GLIDEWRAPPER!

So, I haven't tested if I get stats racing with IPL yet, but both IPL and Mixer work with full functionality so far. Unfortunately, true hardware acceleration makes WINE crash for me (if you get it to work let me know), but Glide Wrapper works quite nicely and is efficient for Ubuntu. Unfortunately, right now, I am stuck in 640x480 resolution even after setting it in Glide Wrapper prefs, but I'm hoping I can still change in game...

Well let me know what you think ;)
I have now (kinda) officially moved over to Ubuntu. It's way better than XP, because:
- it's free
- it's more intelligently designed
- you can add features
- it's just cool and exciting to have a "new" OS that's updated twice a year for FREE
Not to advertise or anything, but I think it's worth checking out (ubuntu.com) :D

Help/F.A.Q / NFS: HS Screenshots Problem
« on: Feb 03, 2010, 1:53 PM »
Well, my previous screenshot program was a failiure, Print Screen only saves one image per .exe launch, and I don't want to have to buy Fraps (I bought it before but that old PC crashed and now lost it)

Anyway, I was going to point out a cool little feature of NFS: HS. You can take screenshots-within the game! It's really simple, you just have to press Alt + P, like it says in the Predefined Keys section of the "Controls..." menu. A nice feature of that even is that the game will hide the little + sign if you quit the race to replay, and it'll hide the camera bar as well. Well anyway, I first installed HS with only EA cars and Expansion Pack with the EA add-on cars and the EP tracks. Using EA (+EA Add-on) cars and standard tracks, I was able to utilize this screenshot feature in-game and uploaded many of the screens (15 actually) to SOTD which will appear soon, hopefully. Anyway, since then I've installed my FM Mod, which is just a bunch of mod cars / tracks that import into NFS HS Mixer. Gameplay is successful, but when it comes to taking screenshots the camera bar and + sign still hide, but after closing NFS I have no screenshots on my desktop. I've tried different NFSHS.EXEs, all except the standard one which doesn't recognize my CD. Anyone know what's up?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General NFS / Empire Backstreets (?)
« on: Jan 26, 2010, 2:55 PM »
Hello NFS fans :D

I have the awesome track Empire Backstreets 4.0 by Sergi in my FM HS Mod. Unfortunately, there's a glitch in it. On the highway's turn (not too long after the beginning of the track, before the tunnel with Sergi's banner) if you're driving backwards or if an AI person is, they fall through into an underground tunnel and can't get out; they're totally stuck. I can't fix this bug

Abyss told me that this is fixed in Empire Backstreets V4.1, but he says he is unable to locate that version. So here's my request:

Could somebody please:

1) Send me either Empire Backstreets 4.1 or some version of it without this bug, OR...

2) Attempt to fix the bug by messing with the mesh a little; and if you do PM me the link to your "fixed" Tr.frd.

Thanks!

General NFS / NFS4 Community Drafting Survey ;)
« on: Jan 15, 2010, 4:16 PM »
Tracks:
I'm sorry, but did anyone else notice this? Redrock Ridge Enhanced by MADMAN was the only NFS4 track NFSAddons got during 2009. I mean, really? Why don't we have any trackmakers...

I just wonder what happened to all the great trackmakers of the day:
Sergi, for his amazing multiroute stuff
AccadaccA seemed to stop working, it was amazing though
Justin Martin made some good tracks but he's left HS
NFSWill, one of the best track designers, are you willing to come back to it?

And as for myself, I've tried... a little... to make tracks and I guess it's not quite as tedious to LEARN but to actually produce some good work is quite challenging. I have not released any tracks yet and I don't want replies asking, "why don't you make more yourself?" because I'm trying at least.

CARS and a little tracks:
We still get some car releases, and I'm thrilled that we have some new and some experienced carmakers (being XJ220, Freak-DS, Blazn Motorsports, etc..) still working for us. For an example of someone new, at NFSCars we've got NFS4LIFE+ who is really devoted, example being:
He released a nicely textured Pursuit 911 Turbo, I'd think it was worth downloading
Me and some other person didn't like the "extra" rear spoiler.
He fixed it and reuploaded it within a day. That's devotion, my friends.
I might not be great at modeling cars (I'm actually almost-decent), I'm not great with texture mapping (I'm horrible), Converting (I dont' want to buy ZModeler 2)... but I am with basic texture/mesh editing and using ZModeler a little and I'm great with NFS Wizard and can make passable CARP.TXTs. Everyone has their own strengths, I think everyone who visits this site often has the ability to help make cars and they should. I can do CARPS, I can do FeDatas, I think I can do VidWalls, can do sufficient Upgrades and some random finishing touches... and that's about it: but I still at least try to  make cars. I don't upload horrible cars and describe it as "its co0l!", but I put forth the skills I have in benefiting a community of friends. I'd like you all to consider this...

Do you like NFS HS?
a) yes (so keep reading)
b) no (sorry for wasting your time)

Have you experimented with making your own Cars/Tracks/Tools?
a) yes (good for you, read on)
b) no (Try it, I'm serious it's fun!)
c) I'm best at finding old cars and archiving them (something most people hate, I'd love your help, PM me)
Are you most interested in cars, or tracks?
a) cars (keep reading)
b) tracks (see the question at the end)

[cars]What, specifically, are you best at... with cars, you can have more than one choice
a) organizing with NFSWizard, putting it all together
b) The modelling and mesh editing
c) texture mapping
d) texture editing
e) performance (CARP.TXT) files
f) "I don't really know yet, where do I get all these tools you mentioned, how do I use them?" -> Email me, hsrocks73[at]yahoo[dot]com, I can send you links to tools/tutorials, it's always hard to get started

If you liked tracks better there's a special question for you,
What are you best at in tracks?
a) texturing
b) mesh editing
c) camera view editing
d) "finishing" aka doing practically nothing except loading screens :D

So after all this... do you think you could benefit the NFS HS Community by making some cars/tracks?
a) absolutely (I'd love to see some betas of them)
b) I think... but I can only do some of the work (Talk to other people, see what their skills are, and collaborate! :))
c) Nope, too lazy. :p (well I can't help you with THAT problem)

Anyway this thread may be successful, or it may be pointless. It's up to you guys to decide which. Really I meant this just to see if we can encourage people to make some cars of their own; there's so much room to be creative :)

Editing Projects / TRACKS: NFS1 to NFS2
« on: Dec 04, 2009, 5:38 PM »
You people said you wanted tools for this? Well, some of you? Or am I just going crazy :D

So anyway, found this at Dennis Auroux's site, an interesting tool worth having I guess...
http://www.math.polytechnique.fr/cmat/auroux/nfs/
scroll down and you'll find it and lots of other "lost" tools! ;)

General NFS / sad, sad news
« on: Nov 19, 2009, 3:04 PM »
I just realized that TotalNFS is now gone.. or hopefully down. I couldn't manage without Justin's great site (NFS Pitstop) and that's hosted by totalnfs.. this better not be the end and I hope they renew it. Actually, maybe we can put money together for the site to be online for a few more years at least :(

Help/F.A.Q / Texture Mapping?
« on: Nov 06, 2009, 2:59 PM »
I know nothing - literally nothing - about texture mapping and it's what's bothered me the most about not being able to make actual edited cars for NFSHS. For example, let's say I made a spoiler in ZModeler on top of EA's BMW Z3. These new polygons will not have any textures, so how do I make them? Another example is adding two  polygons to make a potential Mercedes symbol on an S Class mod based off the EA M5. How could I make those polygons mapped to the mercedes symbol in my texture file?

Someone please help :(
