Today, EA released their first teaser trailer of sorts for the next chapter in the Need for Speed franchise: NFS: No Limits.
Earlier this month, sharp eyed fans had already spotted the NFS:NL logo on the first official photo's of Ken Block's custom '65 Mustang for his Gymkhana Seven video, leading to some speculation about an upcoming NFS title. EA quickly confirmed that this was correct, but that it would be a mobile game, for smartphones and tablets (as announced in May of this year, a new NFS for PC and consoles will not appear until 2015).
NFS: No Limits is being developed by Firemonkeys studios (responsible for EA's Real Racing series for mobile devices), and will be available on Android and iOS. A release date has not been given yet.

While it's not 20 years to the day (Road and Track's The Need For Speed came out on the 3DO console on August 31, 1994), EA released a short trailer today that celebrates 20 years of Need For Speed.
Blink and you'll miss it: at 0:22 it clearly shows an add-on car for NFS High Stakes (Roby Design's Lamborghini Murcielago, to be precise), instead of one of the cars that came with the game. Thanks for acknowledging the NFS Mod community, EA! ;)

Yes, you read that right. Breaking with the tradition of yearly releases, this year will be the first since 2001 where EA will not release a completely new Need for Speed game (unless you count Motor City Online, of course...). There were already some rumors on the 'net in February, suggesting that a new NFS might be 'on hold', but the Official Need for Speed site published an article today where executive producer Marcus Nilsson explains that Ghost Games will be releasing their next game in 2015, and thus skip a year. He also invites the fans to give feedback and help to shape the future of Need For Speed, so maybe now's the time to speak up...

As another step in the series of DLC releases for NFS Rivals (I failed to announce the release of the Lamborghini Concept DLC pack that was released exactly a week ago, for which I apologize), the Koenigsegg Agera One:1 was released yesterday, on the same day the real 1340 bhp hypercar made its debut in the Geneva Auto Show. This new fastest-car-in-the-game is completely free, and available for PC, PS3/4, and Xbox One/360.

Over the next few weeks EA is going to release several DLC packs for NFS: Rivals on all platforms, and the first two waves just came out today. As you can see in the trailers, one pack will include the Jaguar XJ220 and C-X75 concept, whereas the second one will add the Ferrari F40 and F50 to your game. You have the choice between separate Racer or Pursuit versions of each addon, as well as a slightly more expensive package that contains all 4 cars for Each brand.

A post in EA's support forum promises Lamborghini and NFS Movie-themed DLC to follow soon, as well as one free update that will give you the Koenigsegg One:1.

We don't usually cover non-NFS titles here, but in this particular case I thought I'd make an exception. Last Monday, Slightly Mad Studios, creators of NFS: Shift and Shift 2: Unleashed, announced another new game alongside their still-in-development Project CARS: World Of Speed, a free-to-play team-based MMO racing game for the PC, to be released later this year.
Compared to the more sim-like CARS, WOS is said to have a more accessible, arcade-like handling, and will take place both on existing circuits and in real-life cities like London, Moscow and Monaco.
Screenshots and more information can be found at World of Speed's official website.
